Thanks for the info and feedback guys! I'll get chasing on those links. I've got a idea in my mind developing around the idea of swarm intelligence - independent Ras-Pi robots interacting with each other. Though far too complex to take on as a whole, it seems to give a number of interesting component projects; robot control, sensing, programming, swarm mathmatics etc. Certainly enough to feed the imagination. I'm scrabbling around looking for a good group project to form the basis of an after class technology club for 6th formers. I come from the generation that enjoyed learning to code in basic on a BBC micro and think maybe a Raspberry Pi might recreate such inspiration. Anyone got any experience of such a project? Thanks

This is nice to hear, I grew up with Basic and BBC Basic was one of the better ones. Lets face it the moden user-friendly windows GUI is a muppet-making desert for the mind and games written in the bedroom with blocky 8-bit 2-D graphics are still the best!

I was quite happy with my iphone battery life till I dropped it doen the crapper. Either way, mobile power is a problem. The real solution is a butane powered catalytic cell rather than manky old batteries... Just waiting for someone to get them into mass production.

Hi y'all, new here. Just wondering if anyone has had much success running *nix on a tablet? I have a dream of running Matlab/Octave on a Playbook. In fact I dream of any decent software on a Playbook, the thing is barren.

Swarm computing and distributed intelligence are pretty hot these days too. They grew out of the complex systems area in the late 90's and are now finding applications in the military and robotics areas. Also, if you are into cloud computing, why not look at the Bitcoin phenomenon, that could have a bunch of colud applications as well as being a hot *hot* topic
