Hi, just wondering if there is anybody in the Bradford/Leeds/Skipton area running Windows 10 on student machines? If so would it be possible for me to pop across and have a look at it running and see how certain things are locked down. I am 95% done and getting ready to roll out over summer but a few niggles. Thanks

Thanks but already gone through all them settings and they don't work the same they did for Windows 7. Tried numerous settings and they either don't work on windows 10 or don't lock it down enough.

Google Chrome 'Your connection is not private'
duzzie replied to cdwyer's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We are having the same issue, ours is a problem with certificates and eSafe software. Smoothwall have been looking into it as it seems it is an issue on their side. To get round it we have turned off SSL inspection (temporary) -

Yes we use Smoothwall as a proxy and HTTPS inspection is turned on for students (not staff). It's the latest version (Inverness 5). Google.com and co.uk redirect to forcesafesearch.google.com (our DNS does this) Google.ie is blocked. -

Chrome is version 58.0.3029.81 and the eSafe software was version 4.1.1.23 we have now updated it to 4.3.6.67, and all is good again. -

Just an update on our Chrome issues, turns out it was a bit of software called eSafe which we use to manage safeguarding. It was issuing certificates that were SHA1 and not SHA2, we were just looking at certificates on the Smoothwall box (which all seemed ok). Anyway we got an updated version and all seems ok. -

Tried gpupdate and rebooting a few times and still the same. Works ok on Admin computers so applied the Admin Chrome policy and still the same error. Very strange. -

Sorry early finish yesterday, everything you have mentioned seems ok. I have watched both computers on the firewall (one that works and one that doesn't) and the only difference I can see when opening the same page is the one that works connects to https://ssl.gstatic.com and the one that doesn't connects to https://clients2.google.com. Like I said they are both in the same computer room so same policy's been applied and both have the same chrome build. Tried using IE and connects to google sites without a problem. I might give Smoothwall a ring and see if they have any ideas. -
Hi, seem to be having an issue in one of our IT suites with Google. I keep getting Not secure and your connection is not private. All was working yesterday, strangely a couple of the machines don't seen to be affected even though they are all the same build and same OU. Has anyone any ideas please? tried rebooting firewall, rebooting computers but no joy.

Project Professional and Microsoft Volume Licensing Centre
duzzie replied to duzzie's topic in Licensing Questions
I mentioned the Open Office type route and was shot down, they think a paid solution is always the best option. I use open office and have never had any issues and it does everything I need it to do. -
Project Professional and Microsoft Volume Licensing Centre
duzzie replied to duzzie's topic in Licensing Questions
Thanks for the info, I didn't think it would be that easy. I will get in touch with our software provider regarding costs for additional licenses. -
Hi, I have been asked to install Project Professional 2016 on 2 staff computers, when I go into my Microsoft Volume Licensing Center it shows a download available plus a MAK and KMS key. My question is because it shows does this mean we have a licence through the agreement, or do we need to purchase some licences? I was told by our previous Network Manager that just because it shows doesn't mean we can legally use it? Any help is much appreciated.

Hi, yes that is the folder. I have tried again to make sure I did it correctly and i still get the same results. It is only the internet shortcuts as everything else works fine. I could just not bother but would have sleepless nights over it as it should work without a problem.

Hi all, I'm having a few issues with the start menu tiles, I am wanting to create a group of Apps that are used the most. 5 are for programs that are currently installed on the computer and 3 are internet shortcuts (gmail, helpdesk and classcharts) I have created the shortcuts in the programs folder (same location as the other 5 installed apps) and then created my custom group/collection of tiles (so far so good) I then export the start menu (xml) and apply using group policy. All looks to apply ok, apart from the Internet shortcuts are missing. They still exist in the programs folder and start menu just not the tiles. Any ideas? Sorry if my description is a little poor.

Delete file that is open in another program
duzzie replied to duzzie's topic in How do you do....it?
Thank you very much, logged onto the file server and followed what you said and its gone. I must be having a mental block day. -
Hi all, maybe a really stupid question but I need to delete a file that is on the network and available to all staff, but keep getting "the action can't be completed because the file is open in another program" As all staff have access it could be open anywhere in school. Any ideas? Thanks

We use Meraki MDM and I have to remove the restrictions Tag off the relevent iPad, I can then see the pictures when plugged in to the PC. Maybe worth looking at.

Staff - Full Access Students - No Access Students will always find a way though if they want to, we just try make it difficult for them.

Afternoon, we have been using them for a while and have always had fantastic service. The laptops have always been excellent and we have saved boat loads of money buying refurbished, depending what grade you buy you would never know they weren't new.

Yes, is this the correct way? It has always been like that.

Hi all, we changed our domain admin password last week and since then whenever we try to install a solus agent we get access is denied to the remote machine. We have found a workaround by using the local machine admin account but cannot figure out why the domain admin account no longer works. We get no error messages at all beforehand its only after we try deploy that this message appears. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks
