  1. Hi All Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong topic. Our lightspeed rocket box is nearly 5 years old and I feel that we might need a replacement shortly. Would anyone know if it's possible to lease a lightspeed rocket box rather than purchase one straight up? We have been offered a lease lightspeed filter 5 through Schools Broadband but I feel that we would be restricted with certain options. Thanks in advance for any help. Kindest Regards Ryan
  2. Hi I am so sorry, it was the teacher being a complete plum! The students code was incorrect so he blamed me that our lightspeed filter was blocking it. Never got an apology. Typical! Thanks again
  3. Hi All, Not sure if I am posting this in the correct place but I am having issues with teachers/students using the app inventor emulator on our dedicated android phones. When the students attempt to emulate their project, the phone prompts for their user account and hangs. I have a feeling this maybe to do with the Google SSL certificate as https://google.com appears be the only website getting blocked when I check the lightspeed report. If I set the phones IP address to allow all, this works fine but I dont want to allow all for student mobiles although the IT teacher keeps asking me too. I have tried applying the Google certificate via the lightspeed rocket (http://rocketipaddress/lsaccess/proxycert) but it wants the phone to use a passcode and the IT teacher doesn't want the students have to use a simple passcode to get into the phone as it may confuse them - plus it didn't work anyway. Has anyone else had these issues? Thankyou. Kindest Regards Ryan
  4. Morning We are experiencing a few issues with Outlook and Excel crashing randomly during the day. I have checked the log files but there is no sign of any program crashes. We are linked to office 365 for our emails but use Outlook 2013 rather than the web based system (as teachers prefer this). One of our teachers state when they use Powerpoint and copy a large image from the internet, powerpoint freezes up and closes down. Would you say this was an internet related issue or something else? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  5. Hi All Sorry if this has already been posted, After installing the anniversary update we have noticed that we can no longer connect to SIMS (Scomis hosted applications). Please see below the fix for SIMS after updating the anniversary update: Copy mstsc.exe and mstscax.dll from C:\windows.old\windows\system32\ and paste them in C:\windows\system32 I had issues elevating privileges, to get past this I downloaded and installed 7-zip, ran as administrator and managed to copy and paste these files without issues.
  6. Thanks for this. I will push it out to a room of PC's on Monday. Ill let you know if this has solved the issue. Thanks again. Have a good weekend
  7. Additional - Some students are reporting when they wait for 5-10 minutes, the icons and shortcuts appear. I am completely lost now.
  8. Morning all, Just wondering if anyone can help. I am having daily issues with students logging in and not being able to see their redirected desktop icons or start menu. This is intermittent and not restricted to one user or machine. If they log off and back on again (sometimes multiple times) their icons reappear. I have checked the event viewer and it shows this: "Windows failed to apply the Folder Redirection settings. Folder Redirection settings might have its own log file. Please click on the "More information" link." I have searched the net, deleted profiles even taken the machine off the domain and back on again but still no joy. Any help would be gratefully received. Thankyou!
  9. Managed to fix it - Solution: Create a shortcut onthe desktop to: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Libraries\Documents.library-ms rather than H: Maybe a dirty fix but it works. Everyone is happy
  10. Hello, I am hoping there is a simple fix for this: Every student who attempts to create a new folder cannot see the created folder until they refresh their current view by pressing F5. This causes a few issues as some students get very impatient and keep pressing new folder creating many blank directories. Staff accounts are fine so I belive its a group policy issue but I cannot find this option anywhere. It is also driving our ICT teacher nuts. Please can anyone help? Thankyou so much! Ryan
  11. Checked the event log but to be honest I couldnt see much. There were no clues why this is happening.
  12. Thanks Michael, fantastic idea. Just tried running the setup file for 2016 and it was looking good until it reached the end, then decided to roll back like office 2013 with the same error message "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016 encountered an error during setup"
  13. Hello, Sorry if this maybe a repeat post, I did perform a search but to no avail. I am experiencing huge issues installing Office 2013 on a Windows 10 machine. Ran the setup as a local admin, the setup reaches around 98% ten rolls back and states it has encountered an error during setup. I have performed a search online, one solution was to enable to task scheduler service which was already enabled and running. Any support would be appreciated. Thank you so much! Ryan
  14. Hi I found this online: RAG3HACK Apparently, if you pop that address into your safari web browser (ignore the ads and scroll down about half way) you can choose to disable certain features such as the settings menu which would solve 99% of all my iPad issues when it comes to students setting their own passcodes. Our devices are managed by Meraki but when a student decides to disable WIFI and sets a random passcode this only leaves us with one option to wipe the entire device and start again - This isnt practical when you need to do this several times a day. Although I am hoping someone maybe able to help. Although when I choose to download the file I am prompted with the following error: "Cannot install applications because the certificate for cydiahacks.com is not valid" Have I just hit another dead end? Thanks in advance.
  15. HI Thankyou so much for all your replies so far I really appricate your help. I have tried everything I can possibly think of - Changing the server cables to a new switch - Restarting the DNS server - Deleting the group policy and creating a new one - Changed the registry key as suggested from TurnitOffAndOn - Removed Sophos I have reached the end of my knowledge and completely stuck. Whats even stranger is that even when I delete the group policy, delete the profiles from the machines some still pick up on our custom wallpaper and some desktop shortcuts. I am glad I am not the only one experiencing these issues. I wonder if it is a Microsoft Update that has caused this problem.
  16. Hi Meldrew Thanks for your reply been up until 1.30am last night and started again at 8 am this morning and I think it's am issue with the permissions thanks for your advice on using delprof2 this will certainly come in handy. All the students shortcuts are linked to our net apps folder\custom\students then sub folders named start menu and desktop. If I try to access these folders as a student I receive an access denied message so I allowed the test student access to this folder and still have the same problem although some other computers log in and can access the folder no problem I am really confused now
  17. Hi, thanks for your reply. They are mandatory profiles. We have folder forwarding on the students start menu and desktop both stored on the server. I have tried removing the locally stored profile on each machine and removed the registry entry under profilelist but its hit and miss. I have a test student account setup tried logging into 30 machines and 20% of the machines pick up the profile without any issue but the other 80% either log in as a temporary profile or they can see the custom desktop/start menu but not our custom school wallpaper. When logging off and back in using the same account, the machines that logged in fine previously now log in with a temporary profile or just a black background. After 3 or 4 restarts I can log in without any problem. Thanks
  18. Hello bmtt We had a similar issue. Have you tried using the dual display option in the Intel display control panel (shortcut icon near your windows clock) rather than the generic windows 7 display properties?
  19. Hello, This week we have had massive issues with students logging in with temporary profiles. None of our students have roaming profiles only staff. The staff accounts appear file but just recently we have had an entire classroom of students logging in with temporary profiles given them an "admin" type look no custom icons on their desktop or start menu. The frustrating part is that when you ask a student to restart their machine, after 3 or 4 attempts they can see their profile again, desktop background, custom desktop and start menu then when they restart or log off they are presented with a temporary profile again. On occasion we have had students logging in with the custom desktop icons, start menu but just a black background rather than the one I set in group policy. I have spent countless hours going around to 30 machines in the classroom removing all profiles in C:\users and removing the keys in the registry under profilelist taking the machine off the domain and putting it back on but again the same issue has occurred. Now its starting to take affect in other classrooms the students log into. I have checked the security settings and permissions and everything looks fine. I have even changed one of the group policy options to "Do not log users on with temporary profiles". As a last resort I have rebooted the server and restarted the DNS service but no joy. I am now at a complete loss and desperate for any help. Thanks in advance.
  20. Hello, Thankyou for your responses. It is already part of the IT policy and our mobile phone policy but the students always find ways of hiding their phones whilst allowing it to charge. Shame there is no way of disabling this option. Thanks again Ryan
  21. Good Morning, Sorry if this has already been posted before but I did a quick search and was unable to find anything. Does anyone know any way we can stop students from charging mobile phones, iPods, MP3 players using the USB slots on workstations without disabling the USB drive entirely? I have found a way that allows you to disable the USB port but students use their memory sticks to transfer work from home to school and vice versa but they are also using this to their advance to charge their mobile mobiles. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Ryan
  22. Hello, Bit of a strange one, we recently had a power cut and since the power cut one of our teachers keeps getting the message "cannot get mail server error contact your server administrator" when syncing mail to the iPad. I can see all of his folders but none of his emails. I have removed the account from his iPad and iPhone and re-added but the same problem. After a bit of digging around on the internet I came across an article which mentioned about deleting emails from the day the email stopped working as there may be a corrupt email somewhere. I have tried this but still to no avail. If anyone could help I would appreciate it. Thanks Kindest Regards, Ryan
  23. Sorry for the late response. I have managed to resolve the issue by disabling the group policy that was causing the conflict. Thanks again to everyone who helped out
  24. Hi Synaesthesia, Thansk again for your response. We are using mandatory profiles. I have just checked the event viewer on several of the machines after asking the students to login and it appears that one of our group policies may be the cause. It states: "The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\domain.local\SysVol\domain.local\Policies\{FD609C25-B0B1-4335-90DA-A8B3ECECD306}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:" I have disabled this policy and going to run a gpupdate /force and a reboot and see what happens. Ill repost once completed. Thanks.
  25. Hi Synaesthesia, Thanks for the reply. We have a tool that runs delprof2 daily, when you run this manually it works briefly but when another student logs into the same machine we experieince the same problem again. Thanks.
