  1. Correct otherwise its not transparent You can do man in the middle attacks if you install a certificate on each client though. We use Lightspeed in transparent mode on our infrastructure and it works a treat. Dave
  2. Go for option 1. That's how we normally set things up. BT EAD circuits are just point to point fibre so VLAN's will work over them absolutely fine. Dave

  8. Julia, What on earth is no operational contention meant to mean? If swgfl are using Bt wholesale based fttc then there is no sla on delivering bandwidth back to the wholesale ISP so speeds can vary depending on 1. The number of live fftc connections compared to the backhaul from the fttc cabinet back to the exchange 2. The amount of 21cn bandwidth bought by the wholesale isp from bt wholesale via the ISPs interconnect 3. The size of the ISPs interconnect into bt wholesale 4. The upstream links from the exchange into BTs 21cn network The only kind of fttc which has any kind of bandwidth guarantee is Ethernet over fttc (eofttc) or Generic Ethernet Access fttc (gea-fttc) It really annoys me when some companies make up "spin" words or phrases to make schools believe they are getting a 1:1 contention ratio when they are blatantly not :-( Rant over Dave
  9. Watch this space chaps. I can't comment on the specific issue and exactly how it occurs and why, but we have a case open with our vendors which has already been escalated. I'll be in touch via the forum soon. If you want to comment or have questions on this or anything else please do send me a PM. Thanks Dave
  10. Fear not Fortinet and Schools Broadband give you unlimited VPN licenses included in our normal annual charge
  11. We've got quite a few schools that have moved over to us too. Ping me over a PM or give me a call on our office number and we'd be happy to give you some contacts of direct customers. Ta Dave
  12. No problem @IrritableTech, for sims access I'd recommend using a Fortitoken which will do you your 2 factor authentication. The Fortinet can then only allow access to certain Windows AD users those with the token too. Dave
  13. hi @IT_Man_Dan sounds like that may be us then Thank you very much for joining us. There are a couple of ways you can do this using our Fortinet solution. Either you can create them a script which will automatically map them the drives once they are connected to the VPN (via IPSEC or SSL) or I think you can use the Fortinets SSL web portal. This will give your end users a simple button via a web front end to be able to map drives. I'd suggest you call your account manager and he'll setup a call with one of our technical consultants for you who can find the best solution in combination with our products as this certainly isn't anything unique. Thanks again and we're looking forward to work with you David
  14. hi yes sorry will do. I've been away of late and I'm going to be away most of this and next week too. I'll do a separate thread actually to everyone on Edugeek about it. Thanks Dave
  15. if you want a great firewall I'd highly recommend Fortinet. If you want to know the correct spec for your school then let me know and I'll advise on the best device. Thanks Dave
  16. This might sound daft but BT changed the pricing of their Ethernet Access Direct point to point fibre circuits and 100mbit circuits are now cheaper than 10mbit circuits. Sooner or later the 10mbit product will get pulled. Having said that though I think bgfl use virgin media anyway and their pricing is much more ad hoc We are starting to see more secondary schools take 100mbit on 1gbit bearers. One school has just taken a 300mbit on 1gbit bearer and get close to maxing it out, although they have rolled out 1:1 iPads which eat bandwidth in certain circumstances. Dave
  17. Sure I've got lots of them. Send me a PM and I'll see what I can do. Dave
  18. yes it was a Lightspeed URL categorization issue. They fixed it pretty quickly though
  19. @IrritableTech is right. You can't get Ofsted outstanding rating in e-safety if you don't have any reporting on user activity.
  20. do an internal ignore rule for the specific IP address of that machine. It should then be allowed through as no rules will be applied to it. This is not a filtering allow all rule but an internal ignore rule that's in a different place Dave
  21. One Draytek 2830 in the post to @IrritableTechfor the paltry sum of £50 inc VAT when they should be £180 + VAT Thank you for being one of our good customers

Well to my existing customers they can have a Draytek 2820 for £10 or a 2830 for £50 + p&p I'm out all day and tomorrow so will get our operations ladies to check how many I have in stock at the moment. The 350 will be coming back over the next 6 months. I'll think of a price to none Schools Broadband customers soon Heck if you move your school broadband connection to us I might just throw you in a spare one anyway Thanks Dave
  23. @IrritableTech I'm about to take stock of circa 350 Draytek 2820 / 2830's as we migrate people to our cloud solution. Let me know if you want one dirt cheap Dave
