  1. URL doesn't seem to work ?... No I think becta site is down could it be they don't have enough technicians.
  2. My Boss has asked me to do a presentation to SMT about TCO. I have a Basic idea but would like any advice anybody has. I wouldn't mind working out how much it costs to allow USB keys becuse they think it is just £15
  3. True computing waiting 7 Minutes for the tape to load 8)
  4. Try user hive deletion http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en and best of all - Delprof.exe http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=901A9B95-6063-4462-8150-360394E98E1E&displaylang=en
  5. Hi, I've got a user who is occasionally recieving blank email in her outlook inbox. When she checks them on webmail they are fine. I've tracked it down to email that is sent as plain text as the same message get through as HTML. I'm not sure where to go next...any ideas welcome..
  6. Lets face it if it was left to teachers to make ICT spending choices. Every kid would have an RM computer at home..... 8)
  7. Hi, We have Microsoft Schools Agreement, long story but it covers the cost of CALs, Upgrades and Office . It's up for renewal and I've negotiated it down to 24.75 per computer. I was wondering if anybody has it any cheaper... (I know Open source but rome wasn't built in a day... first moodle then the world....)
  8. Hi, We've used them for a while (v1) and have just tested some v2. They seem to do exactly what they say on the can. You can definatly capture video and export it as AVI using the software provided though I think it saves in c: drive somewhere. I've had problems with playback in media player 9 but 10 seems fine. I've also used them as webcams and imported from them into Movie maker. As mentioned only really any good for primary level though.
  9. Hi, We block webbased mail about a year ago for all users for the reason mentioned and after some intial grumbbling got everyone on board. As a compromise though We have opened it up before 8:30 and after 4pm especailly for the Austrailian Staff.... On a differnet note I have also had to block all the free webspace pages as students start to bully other pupils and arrange fights with other schools on their blogs. They have also posted happy slappy vids and inappropriate images.. So I waiting for the teacher who comes up with a reason to want to open them back up....
  10. Hi, We've been using a couple of Polycom units for 3 Years now and they have worked really well (Apart from a transformer going twice !!). Our RBC (LGFL) has just started to get serious about VC and Has linked in to Janets Gatekeeper which makes it all a piece of cake. They are also starting to use a click to meet server for multi point conferecing (via webcams) and the quality is really good. Currently we mainly use it to deliver "a" level critical thinking and electronics using a company called Moore House Black. I would definatly check out the qos of your broadband before buying anything and get comanys to come and demo it using your setup can save a lot of wasted money.
  11. Hi, We had a cashless sytem bought for us by the LEA. Who then failed to include on going support costs  . But it has worked really well and any issues have been delt with effectivly. The company is uniware and we have had it running for over 4 years so are looking to upgrade and will go back to them.
  12. I told staff that the network was down for two day tomorrow three weeks ago for firmware update on the switches. This advice appeared in the staff bulliten..... by our data manager The network will be down for two days on the 21st and 22nd December. This will hamper staff access to SIMS on these two days. No more than capita do already I thought....
  13. Anybody know a way to stop music being copyed from them (USB sticks) to the network home drives. I keep having to clean them up. Which I can do with a script but I'd much rather not have them in the first place. As it would stop the students (and staff) using expecsive computers to share crap music around. (For genre information delete the C)
  14. We purchased a digimatic about 3 years ago as a deicated box because of the same thing. It works fine but can't handle 700MB CD (though I suspect the new model would). The main problems are price 8O and speed but I just set it going over night. It just plugs into the network you can allocate usernames and cd limits. Our music dept loves it for creating CD to give to parents of students work. We also produce a staff handbook each year as it is cheaper than printing one. http://www.odixion.co.uk/

    Help with Ranger

Hi, We use ranger but don't touch any of the stuff that can be done better using GPO settings. We have fisher price settings working fine. I would try creating a new security group in AD add it to ranger and move to the top of it's list (ranger administrator settings groups) add a user to the list and see if you get the same issue. If so it must be in the all user enviorment settings some where. I must admin I like rangers ability to shut down a open window based on title bar it enables the use of software for genuine work but stops it when it sees a title I've banned.
