we are working to joining our two seperate domain this summer. Using AD to seperate the computers roll and restrict user access. The main difficult I can see (apart from the obvious) Is the teacher who keeps their whiteboard on showing all the school local neighbourhood kids private information. Any body got a way of shutingdown the projectors when sims is run ?

Any one got a copy of BTS Base Pack Version: 6.03.4. I'm trying to setup RIS using Risult and it doesn't work yet with the new interface for BTS (6.06.01)

it's a bit of a long way around but you could set yourself up as a client to whom you sent emails in plain text. Then create a rule to forward any mail from this user to yourself deleting the original. The problem then comes if you want to reply to this user. Also does it not work redirecting to junk mail and then out again to another folder ?

have you investigated using reserved IP address. I realise it may be time consuming to do a lot of devices that way -
Check out this thread.. http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=1506&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=total+cost++ownership&start=15 I suscessfully used it to confince the burser and govennors what was required year on year to maintain the status quo. (then they expected me to kit out a new room using the same budget !!!!!)

I had a memeber of staff with the same issue total undermining our acceptable use policy and so after a "talk" with his line manager I added the four computers he need to use into the login workstation in AD as this stopped the excuss "the kids have hacked my password" (funny how easy that is when you tell them it). strangly he is no longer working here...

All the multiples of 9 are the same symbol and any two digit number - the sum of its digits = a multiple of 9... clever though

Thanks Snuffkins that worked a treat (well once I put the full path for startrom in). Now I just have to get the NIC drivers sorted (I've seen that elsewhere in edugeek) and I can start to play....

Anybody got feed back on Arcserve 11.5. I'm thinking of changing from a creaking veritas 9.0 and it seems cheaper (with school deal) to move to CA. So any feedback would be good 8)

IT's got version A.06 which I think is the latest. I think it may be that DHCP server is not telling the client where to get the RIS client. I'm hoping to find a spare box this afternoon to try with different hardware

I'm trying to get RIS to work with the following setup 1 w2k server with AD/DNS/DHCP 1 w2k3 server with RIS installed with basic XP sp2 I keep getting the following error from my GX270 (intel pro 1000) when I try to boot from the network PXE-E53 No Boot Filename Received I know from the net that this means it is getting a dhcp address but not getting the bootfiles. Any ideas ?

Try CPC http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/home/homepage.jsp they are great for things like that and really reliable on delivery

I had problems with my tarastation as I could not implement the security as it took the first 100 user (alphabetically) out of ad and would not allow any others. I decided just to use it for backup but veritas keeps lossing the drive share. Now I have it workiing really well using robocopy command over night and have my userdata backed-up.

Covering ourselves when it comes to policing porn viewing
Face-Man replied to woody's topic in School ICT Policies
If your worried about the police take a look at http://www.jisclegal.ac.uk/publications/P2Inappropriateuse.htm As we need to be vigalent as to what is on our network this presents a problem.... I would just ensure that you report any and everything. Ensure you line manager knows the minute you find anything and then put in place the schools policy. I recently had to get the police in due to images that came in on a memory stick and after showing them to the police they decided the "girl" photographed was over 16 but I was glad I got them in. -
We have a DirectX problem... two tables with Dell GX620 with ATI radeon x600 128mb Graphics cards.. Same ghost image on all computers (all be it a couple of months old). One table directX works fine the other only has directdraw running and not direct3d according to dxdiag. I've tryed uninstalling drivers and getting the latest one form the web and I've reinstalled directx 9.0c from M$. obviously I can reimage the computers but I would like to know why it's gone pear shaped and if there is a quick fix incase it happens again... funnily enough the old gx240 work a treat.

Get the pro in, our air con failed last summer and I had to work in the 35 degree plus shuting everything down  while waiting for the same day service contractor to come it. Found out some kid had got on the roof and turned the maintence switch off (now encased in locked box).

lets face it you don't want to replace a server very often and even if you do you won't get the money for a new one. So I would buy big now. we bought a high spec server in 2002 (P3 cpu's) and it is now so short of space (36gb Scsi hd x 6) and I have to struggle till April before I can replace it. Remember severs are like the M25 you make more space it gets filled.

Just say that it is a paperless office... so if he is willing to scan the work in you will happy store it on your servers...
