  1. What termainal command can I use? I have ARD so I can easily use it on all the machines.
  2. I've run into a few instances now where users are seeing phantom printers (old installs). I've checked the network queues and only the two that I've set up are in there. Where are these other queues coming from and how can I get rid of them?
  3. Thanks Steve. I honestly feel they're all adults and need to be treated as such. I was shocked to see how much was locked down by the person before me. I was in a classroom today where a teacher's printer was printing streaks, so I needed to clean the heads. Her printer utility was locked out. I just shook my head. What harm could using that do? lol
  4. Hi all, sorry to post yet again but you guys have been great. I'd like to hear from you how you have your schools configured and what teachers are and aren't allowed to access. From what I'm finding my predecessor didn't let them do anything. Almost everything was locked down so much they couldn't change the resolution or even run the printer utility. I don't want to have to run down to these rooms each time they want to do something silly (and that IMO they should have access to). I'd like to unlock all faculty machines so that they have access to all programs that are currently installed on their machines. I don't want them to be able to install new programs but everything that's on there now, they should have access to. I see permission errors on these machines constantly. Do you see any risks in letting them access all current programs? All machines are based on a model. For instance I have a teacher that wants a few programs installed on her machine. I now have to unlock that program for all faculty. It's a pain because the only way I know how to add programs into the allowed list is to use WGM from my machine and browse my HDD to add it to the list.
  5. If I add /Applications, won't that give them access to all Applications?
  6. Just a quick question, I need to roll our students over to the new grade levels (ie. move 1st graders into the 2nd grade WG) using Workgroup Manager. Is there a way to move them all at once or do they all have to be done individually?
  7. I tested one of our lab machines logged in as a faculty member. I added those two entries to the Lab computers and faculty workgroup, yet I'm still getting the ksadmin error. BTW: I was able to deploy Chrome via ARD by creating a Chrome package. I followed the instructions found here: https://groups.google.com/forum/?hl=en#!topic/macenterprise/noFKRCn45-k
  8. Yes sorry, like you said all our machines have the client software. I have the ARD admin software on my machine.
  9. All our machines have ARD on them. Can I deploy software using that? I couldn't find a software package for Chrome.
  10. Thanks Steve. Yep I'm aware that WGM is a dead dinosaur. However, I just started in this position two months ago and unfortunately don't have the time to make a transition to something new. I'll be working this year on getting a server up and moving over to AD. I'm coming from an almost completely PC based environment to a 98% Mac environment here. Is there a way to manually enter the folders into WGM or do I always have to browse for them? Also, I'd like to deploy Chrome to all of our machines. Can I install it to all machines from within WGM or do I have to go to each machine?
  11. 'm having an issue with a permissions error on our managed Macs using Google Drive. I installed GD and added the permissions for it in Workgroup manager. The issue is the updater program 'ksadmin' gives a permission error. I haven't found a way to allow ksadmin or even to delete it. From what I saw online it says to delete the ksadmin file under ~/Library/Google/GoogleSoftwareUpdate/GoogleSoftwareUpdate.bundle/Contents/MacOS/ however this directory does not exist. I also added this folder to the WGM whitelist but still no change. Any other ideas? The permission error comes up constantly. Reply Unsubscribe
  12. I'm working on a site for my Masters project. I need very small icons that can represent grade levels. The ones I have set right now are: Kindergarten Lower elementary Upper elementary Lower Middle School Upper Middle School High School Can anyone assist?
