Recycle the big Konica Minolta cartridges
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in How do you do....it?
Did you find out anything plexer for possible remans on these? If we can give them somewhere who will actually reuse them rather than disposing, then obviously that would be better, plus getting to reuse them ourself at a much cheaper price! I think the colours for the 5430 are now at £105 each for just 6k yield after the recent 15% price hike! Failing that, 25p each mounters sounds better than nowt -
Wow! This is over 2 grand on dabs.. excellent offer! The economy is very good too - £140 cartridge for 30,000 pages. Although we don't need anything like that here, that is an excellent offer for high volume printing.

Yes.. I quite feel the same myself now. I hate to have hijacked your thread DMcCoy Got it packed up in the end with the necessary adjustments in place (copied to server then shared folder and mapped on a clean machine). Have distributed out to 2 stations, and it loads up fine on admin users, but gives am "AMT Subsystem Failure" error on staff and students - have tried Adobe solutions on licencing with no luck. I think it must be permissions to local disk, but finding that is like a needle in a haystack! Why can't this just work like everything else :x
-
Sorry lost you a bit there. I'm running the installer from the CD drive which of course is mapped via My Computer (so D:\ rather than \\machine\d$\). My assumption with the serial was that it needed to be run from disk to pick it up, so although I copied the entire contents to a local folder (C:\temp), it still wouldn't pick it up as being "valid" (red X rather than the tick). I'm sure it's something very easy (they always tend to be), but at the moment I can't quite comprehend how it's done! Can the serial be auto entered in this file to be picked up during the installer, and more's the question - I am right to copy the dvd disk contents to the hard disk?
-
I can't really understand how that adobe deployment works. Obviously you can't add that override file onto the payload folder because the installation files are on a dvd disk. I have tried copying the disk contents to the local disk and adding the override file into the payload folder, but then when running setup from there, it wont recognise the serial number, so i'm a bit stumped as to how that it meant to be done??

Any info on this plugin? If it means we can run it in our suites then i'm willing to pursue it. When you say card, are you in reference to the gfx? We're using WinXP machines.. is this an issue regardless of using mac/windows?
-
It was shipped to us as soon as it was released through an arrangement of upgrading from CS3. It's been anticipated for quite some time now, so deciding what to do in the meantime will be hard..
-
That is a big blow.. we have just received Design Premium CS4 on friday! Can this "feature" be disabled? We are struggling creating a package for it (RM CC4), however, would it even be worthwhile manually installing (I dread to go there), or will that make little or no difference??
-
The bulk of the CC4 cost is just workstation licences. There are 2 tiers, and the expensive one includes extras such as Tutor4. The higher workstation licence is around £85 per client (cheaper if upgrading from a CC3 licence, but I get the impression this thread is about a new fresh install). CC4 still lacks many of the features which was initially used to sell to schools, and some features aren't due to until well into next year (exchange extensions for example). Best thing is to contact RM direct and get an account manager (if you're a new customer) or speak to an existing one and have them draw up a quote. Even then, I wouldn't rush into it, as it's still feature limited. I think though as a fresh install it'll be better than an upgrade (like we have suffered)!
-
We moved to RM CC4 and found problems with some of our music software on an XP machine (something to do with the RM components), yet it works fine on Vista. Vista also seems to run quicker for us than XP, which is an unexpected advantage. We haven't yet done a larger rollout beyond our Music machines, but likely will "convert" further machines in the coming months, but certainly not a fully-blown en-masse XP to Vista changeover. Fortunately we have exceptionally specced hardware which is more than capable of running Vista, so as far as that is concerned, we are in a position to.
-
Nice to see some slack there than the previous. I'll be sure to be in contact for our next order! Now they just need to make high capacity toners for this printer at max 50% more the price and i'll retract my earlier comment about bad economy
-
We discussed it on the phone earlier Speaking of which, i''m still waiting for that email!
-
I can't believe folk still want to buy this! Granted, the printer was as cheap as chips, but the economy of it (cartridge prices and life) is shocking. We have around 9 of them, and would gladly sell them on any day! Unfortunately, we couldn't possibly justify that..

Recycle the big Konica Minolta cartridges
dgsmith replied to dgsmith's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks for the responses, but due to the quantity we have kept hold of, I think a collection is desirable. It seems every company I call don't wish to accept them, so giving them to HTA may be the only feasible option. As it's been a while since this thread was updated, I was just wondering for anyone who may have missed it the first time, whether they're aware themself of anyone who collects these toner cartridges? -
Our email is internally hosted (exchange server), so it seems the CLEO connection to the wider interweb isn't there (the same for our RM easylink too).
-
aha, figures why we can't get email then. I thought our server had crapped itself again. Still, not good service..
-
We use lasertech for recycling of general hp/brother etc cartridges, however they wont take the big KM cartridges (from printers such as the 5430 and 5450). I see these can be "shipped" back to Konica individually, but as we have so many, it wouldn't be best use of time to do this. Does someone know of a compnay who will accept these (rather than us having to go around them all asking)?
-
Westfield did confirm it was CLEO who have taken this step, and we were informed we weren't the only ones to query this (and take a dislike towards this move). Getting over the frustration of last week - we have a SGD account set up now and RM have reluctantly agreed to using this, as our problems on site were severe enough for them to consider this alternate means of access. As renegade said, the site security ultimately is the responsibility of the person(s) whom are employed to overlook the network, thus, any attacks which have the potential to be compromising should be effectively be prevented by inhouse security. Obviously, the nature of logmein means it can be detrimental to a site where security isn't as it should be, but surely something could have been done to still allow the ports used by logmein123.com, without blocking the whole lot.. but that is getting somewhat off the subject. Regardless, we have reached a reluctant compromise (although still undesirable) to accommodate RM and ourselves.
-
Regardless of whether it's cleo or westfield that has blocked the connection (and my apologies to CLEO if they have had nothing to do with it), it still helps us little with regards to RM remoting in, when they want little to do with SGD.
-
How daft that cumbria still has it and lancs doesn't! Surely if it's a security risk it would be blocked across every area which has a CLEO connection? It would appear RM aren't taking the alternative either, which could be detrimental.
-
Although I live in Liverpool, i work in Lancashire thus the school has a CLEO connection. We have had verbal contact with them and they have confirmed logmein is blocked for security reasons (although we have an unfiltered CLEO connection on our admin network, and logmein still works on that, but RM is on the curriculum network). Apologies if the FFS forum was inappropriate, however, that is quite how we feel right now when the block severely restricts our ability to work with RM on the issues. jcollins: Do you have an unfiltered CLEO connection (as on our unfiltered, logmein still works)?
-
Without any prior warning or notice (to us at least), it seems CLEO have not only just blocked logmein for our own machines in work (own use), but also prevented RM from gaining remote sessions to our servers via logmein123.com (which blocks access to their servers to prevent connecting to the gateway). The answer? Oh yes.. Sun Global Desktop (which RM don't want anything to do with). So we have a CC4 network (lets not go there).. full of problems, and no means for RM to get access. Really going to put us in a terrible pickle. Surely others from Lancs/Cumbria have noticed this (those who use logmein at least, or more specifically, CC4)... We can appreciate it may have particular security issues that are of concern, but this has really put us in the siht..
-
We also get this, and it frustrates our staff, although I haven't quite yet got round to reviewing where in the code this seems to be hard-coded in. If someone else fancies doing that and posting back, then great!

Very interesting post, and although I am unable to offer direct advice, we are also suffering the same problem since the past week or so with Lancashire county LEA. We also have no control over LEA filtered sites and are powerless to unblock said sites. We have logmein free installed on our work machines and for some time have used logmein at home to connect to designated machines. However, since sometime last week they simply now just appear as offline, although we can only access the logmein rescue site (not secure.logmein.com). We even had to physically take our machines home to install the client software on the work machines (because the proxy wouldn't allow traffic to/from the site)! Most frustrating indeed. I may have to resort to using hamachi in a virtual lan (which is slower and much less desirable), but none the less should work. [Edit] Just noticed mention of staff proxy which we also have (for our separate admin network), but this also failed to work for us (but at least lets access to the website)! Unfortunately, because of the different network, we can't transfer it across.
