I just came here to say I am having the same ballache. Like you, my shortcuts are in place, and it just gives me a messed up start menu with only one icon showing up. I'm getting a quote for Start10.

Thanks for the feedback :-) I'll be passing on the procurement bid process this time round but would be interested to hear back what deals any of you get. To be honest I think they will be hard pressed to beat the deals you can get with a regular bid through usual channels. I know it's different but I've just got a login to the Crown Commercial Purchasing Platform and the prices on there are basically RRP from what I can tell. https://purchasingplatform.crowncommercial.gov.uk

Has anyone got any experience of using this framework? I'm a little concerned by the fact you tell them what you want and are committed to buy without even knowing the price or model! https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/technology-hardware-for-schools#Aggregation-for-schools-webinar

I had same problem - vanilla win10 enterprise from VLSC ISO. No windows or store updates through explicit proxy on our open wifi. switched to our secure network which uses transparent proxy and it worked fine. After it updated with cumulative update I switched back to open/proxy network and it worked so I suspect it got fixed at some point.

Silently install Epson Easy Interactive Driver Software
Synkrox replied to 5tu's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
Holy thread revival batman! Anyway happened upon this as I needed it today and the silent install works... but only when logged in it seems - doesn't work on startup or login script.... Thanks Epson! :-( -
Possibly or maybe not related - but I had a problem with Windows Media Player burning/ripping CD's after I had disabled music/picture libraries with the registry tweak.

If you have the domains added into O365, doesn't it change the login based on their default email address in AD? (assuming you are using dirsync) Seem to remember that's all I had to do when I moved from bham.sch.uk to our .co.uk address.....

Finally pulled the plug
Synkrox replied to Tricky_Dicky's topic in Birmingham Grid for Learning (BGfL)
Well done, def. the right choice, I have never looked back! I know its scary right now but the grass is certainly greener! -
Thanks for you input guys, I think I will continue to bear them in mind but be wary of reliability. The RM1599 pricing just seems so cheap?! Or maybe I have been ripped off in the past? Chris

Cheers for the info - are they the colourqube waxy ones or normal toner style?

They are the weirdy beardy waxy block things aren't they? Thanks for the tip, will avoid!

Looking at changing out our current Ricoh managed copiers with a local firm (who have been good in all fairness) for Xerox devices, specifically the workcenter range. Going via the public sector agreement thingy, the costs are crazy low compared to what we have been paying. Anyone have any experience with these machines or similar framework deals?

Virgin Media Leased internet Lines
Synkrox replied to FN-GM's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Can't comment on the service (I used to be on BGFL/Virgin but switched to BT) - However when I got a quote from Virgin they were really sketchy about how they priced things as they (unofficially) had a gentleman's agreement not to compete with the LA. When I told them they had no chance then they revised their quote and pretty much matched BT. However I was already put off. Been pretty happy with BT and their tech guy that came out to configure our fortigate was really good. -
YouTube Safety Mode - Is it me?
Synkrox replied to Synkrox's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Thanks Iain, However you cannot create a DNS record that way (at least not in 2008R2) as it gives an incompatible format error. Similar but relevant thread here:https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/eebd5c3f-8d96-4014-9852-f3028c71d930/implementing-cname-wwwgooglecom-pointing-to-nosslsearchgooglecom-without-making-dns-server?forum=winserverDS To get around this - If you create an A record instead and point it to the IP of forcesafesearch.google.com (216.239.38.120) then it resolves fine and you can access youtube, However safety mode is still not on, and it has no effect. Are you positive this is how you have it set up and it works? could there be something else you have done to force it on? Chris -

Safesearch is fine, I am on about Youtube Safety Mode specifically. -

Interesting, I wonder what's going on behind the scenes there then and if Fortigate could replicate it in some way. -
YouTube Safety Mode - Is it me?
Synkrox replied to Synkrox's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Nope, safesearch for bing, yahoo, google etc but not safety mode. Have spoke to them and as its cookie based they don't have a solution. Was the issue with smoothwall no longer being able to force it resolved then? http://www.edugeek.net/forums/internet-related-filtering-firewall/50497-force-youtube-safety-mode-2.html -
Is it me or is it a massive oversight that we cannot force safety mode on through our filtering boxes? I know the standard reply is "education mode" but at secondary level its really not practical to have to whitelist all the videos anyone might ever want to watch on the site which has all the videos in the world on. I know safety mode is not infallible but surely its a great deal better than the "unfiltered" version. I have posted a question on the Youtube forum. I'm not holding my breath for a reply from anyone at google, but perhaps if you agree that this cookie setting is terribly impractical then you could look at commenting/starring my post to try and get some attention from it: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/youtube/BdCO_0waxgU I'm using a Fortigate box to filter internet here. If anyone has a suggestion on how I can sort this out another way I'd be pleased to hear it! Chris

Forticlient is good and works without a Fortigate box. Personally, I use Windows Family Safety on all laptops the kids use, I find its pretty good. Bugbear for me is the flakiness of youtube safety mode and my kids obsession with minecraft videos means I cant really take it away from them, I just keep checking it's enabled.

I use PHPScheduleIT for booking rooms, works pretty well.
