We use signinapp. It registers the students and writes back to Bromcom with a comment and the time if they are present/late/after reg closed for AM or PM reg. When they sign out I don't believe it is recorded in Bromcom registers, as their AM reg is still valid. PM the same. (we don't do period reg). It won't overwrite marks already in the system. Perhaps you could do it through their timetable, so it doesn't expect a mark at all for free periods? You can use the "signed out" list from signinapp to see quickly who has signed out if you needed to update reg marks manually.

There are different readers available, make sure you get the more universal ones that let you use the cheap mifare ID cards. They work with Net2 software just the same, you just don't have to buy the paxton-own fobs. Kudos to them for keeping it real and not suggesting they will change anything to stop it happening again, or to improve performance in the future.

I got mine through O2 directly- using the CCS framework pricing. We buy one data bundle and share it between all SIM cards for £5 per connection. Be interested to see how the rest of you it do as ours is up for renewal soon too.

Even though it was 3 years ago I chose Bromcom, the fact that for the past 3 years every September has been problematic still gives me embarrassment.

According to their own docs - Only one instance of the application..... but no single point of failure... 🤔 Struggle to believe such a massive platform could be kneecapped for all users so absolutely unless it has an inherent design flaw. I wonder if there's some technical debt from years back that means Bromcom sits on one big fat server or Azure application and hasn't been built for resilience and scale. Blimey that's scratched a bit of my memories I forgot existed. Seem to recall using XVid instead. Also recall installing the K-Lite codec pack which somewhat incredibly is still updated 🤯 I just push the HEIF extensions and HEVC codecs out now and haven't had any complaints. I also push VLC out as a fallback.

We use Fortinet / Fortigate. Logs are piped into Fastvue for the edu specific filtering and reporting.

Core is Aruba 5412ZL Some HP and now some newer Netgear on the edges. None of it has ever missed a beat (touches wood). Netgear stuff came in keenly priced for good PoE spec and "insight" central management. Despite having quite a bit of Unifi wifi gear here I swerved it for switchgear, they have quite an "agile" approach to firmware, where i tend to configure it then leave it for a year or more and just want them to shift packets and keep quiet.
