  1. Erm...? I believe it won't I think 2000 cripples the extra functionality of 2003 but I think Chris will know better than I. Wes
  2. Yes thats correct. Actually if you haven't created on I don't think it will ask you. If you joined them to the domain it should have added them to the Active Directory Wes
  3. Actually although I hated parts of 2.4 and CC3 made me angry that I couldn't do everything I wanted I have to say the ICT KS3 test software was very good even when parts crashed it started up in the right place with the clock paused correctly it one of several pieces of software I am happy to use from RM. Also their hardware support is good! (And I have removed CC3 from our network so no I am not an RM groupie either ) Wes
  4. With regards to ChrisH check this website address for a step by step guide: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/technologies/activedirectory/stepbystep/ctrlwiz.mspx Wes
  5. Sorry I meant on the client to attach to the active directory? BIND? I'll have to have a look at that! Wes
  6. My original post wasn't worth reading! Wes
  7. Can Samba be setup for this? Wes
  8. Strictly speaking you don't need reverse lookup zones in a very basic environment but I always set them up as a matter of course! Sadly W2k3 server "forgets" to set up reverse lookup pointers for your DNS servers which sometimes can be annoying when you are trying to join a test workstation and keep getting domain cannot be contacted errors all the time (Been there done that got pi**ed off, moved away from the servers sat down laughed and fixed it lol) Wes
  9. @Stewart: Like anyone pays enough attention in class lol! Wes
  10. Have you added the linux box to the active directory? Do this first. Then go to the DNS service. You should see a windows open with DNS on the left hand side and your server name just below this. Expand the server name folder this should then show you Forward and reverse lookup zones click on your active directory name .internal or something like that depending on how you've set it up. Right click on the rihgt hand pane and it should bring up a list choose New Host (A) (making sure nothing else is selected in the right hand pane) Enter your computers name and address the system should ask if you want to create a pointer in the Reverse lookup zone do this and you should then be able to ping by the computers name. Also if you have more than one DNS you'll need to either wait for them to synchronise or force them! Wes
  11. What sort of money do you have and what space Units left in cab and depth of cab? How about purple? Wes
  12. More like a sentence by the sounds of it! I think he fails to understand the term Team? Wes
  13. @SpuffMonkey: Fecund: a. fertile. fecundate, v.t. make fertile. fecundity, n. Where did you come up with that? Good grief I had to look it up (Shows how sad I am! and worse still I'm breeding! lol) Wes
  14. Ramesys - CS2 I think the cost was £85 (As a side note woohoo 400 posts and a change of status! ) Wes
  15. We have a similar problem here because I've recently moved the network over and the documentation as it were is all in my head. Having said that when the technician asks me how to do things I tell him and I'm in the process of creating a very large document that covers everything about the network. I'm also trying to arrange an hour training on a Thursday afternoon from 4 - 5 to help the technician understand the new system this however isn't of much help to you I think your concerns are well grounded having an NM that doesn't help you or train you in the basic running of your network is stupid and judging from your description I would say he does it because he wants to keep his job secure and that he's a lazy sod by all accounts his job description would also be interesting reading if he's not following it then he's in breach of contract? Would this be correct? Stewart has a good point I think you need to get as much info as you can on the network and reverse engineer how it works. If they fire him and get a new NM then if he/she is any good they'll be able to figure out the system so getting rid of him isn't such a worry! Wes
  16. Probably not no lol The GF says it'll probably be induced early due to her diabetes Better not be on New Year's Eve Wes

    Securus

You can change the sensitivity of the package though as well so you can remove from the normal reports the daft stuff. It will still capture them and you can view the ignored findings so it's actually very good! The price is the stumbling block for us A minimum of 30 licenses I believe. Wes
  18. 23 Weeks 5 Days here and counting! Ready for the 19th of Jan! Wes
  19. Is there any way to do this for the computer and not the users the pupils are allowed to use certain rooms at 8 - 4:45 but other are 9:30 - 4? Thanks Wes

    Net-runna

@ajbritton: Well even if they can't the OS sometimes gets corrupted and this would in theory prevent this as well add to that ghost images or RIS and you have a system where the computer could be completely rebuilt in <40 mins (depending on image size network speed) add to the fact that this won't happen often with a program or hardware like net-runna or deepfreeze and you have a very reliable system without a lot of firefighting. Wes
  21. I know this has been covered before but I'm not having a lot of luck searching the forums. How do I restrict the login times on some of the workstations to say 9 - 4 so that pupils can't use PCs in un-supervised areas before school starts? Wes
  22. We are having a problem with usb memory sticks. When pupils plug in their usb memory sticks XP recognises this and installs the software but does not mount a drive letter, has anyone else come across this and is there a way round it? Wes
  23. http://www.bbspot.com/Images/News_Features/2003/01/os_quiz/slackware.jpg Scary! The first linux installation I ever did was with Slackware and it's still got cult status for me as a fav distro! Wes
  24. You running the fifty slot one then DMcCoy? lol Wes
  25. We use an Quantum LTO3 Superloader here with 16 slots same drive as Disease lol I like to show off too we run Backup Exec 10d. I believe the manual states within the installation guide (yes I know I actually did read it lol) not to allow winodws to install its own drivers but to use symantecs? I think thats right or I could be confused (It's getting easier to confuse me these days). Using a slower scsi card 160UW I believe that model is? Wouldn't effect it be detected it should be backwardly compatible. So I'd say take Disease' advice and uninstall the drives and veritas then install veritas again. I think it should be detected as Certance H3 within veritas (that is if its an LTO3 thing or just a quantum thing) Wes
