  1. I've been playing around with one and to be honest I love the little thing, I just can't find a use for it! It's like a smart phone without the phone and not as smart Internal message system? Can you still get apps for them?
  2. Treasure / a few dozen of these: New Dell Axim X30 Handheld | Dell UK I've asked a few of the staff, no one has seen them before. They were in a box in one of the cupboards..mysteriously without a past. Never used. All have Windows Mobile 2003 on them... anyone have any ideas what I could use them for? I don't have the heart to throw them
  3. Ah - another use, similar to LeMerchand. I pop mine up on a little stand, and have either my monitor or the iPad with video on, making it nice to fiddle and watch at the same time
  4. I use my iPad all the time - and my PC (both work and home) all the time too. My iPad is great for keeping a task list I can walk around with, which syncs back to my phone and PC. Great for carrying to classrooms in case of emergency googling. Great for browsing magazines and news, especially with Newstand in 5.x But for anything that requires more typing than a search, PC all the way!
  5. I was equally annoyed at the idea of rebuilding the entire network structure for their electronic tick sheet, to be fair. Of course, I agree that having one network can be sufficiently secure with NTFS permissions and so on. But I am a paranoid soul that feels a lot safer with separated networks
  6. Did the school actually do it?! I'm now worried SLT will be sold on this. Time to enter convincing mode.
  7. So SLT have brought in some Capita sales reps this afternoon to talk about using "SIMs in the classroom" for attendance, and assessment etc. Three of them came, in fact. Strength in numbers... I bit pretty early on - "our SIMs installation is on our Admin network, and classroom computers are on our Curriculum network, for a very very good reason. How can these interact?". Their suggestion: Oh don't worry! About a thing! All you need to do is merge the two networks - it's really easy I walked out a few minutes later with a muttered excuse. /rant
  8. Got a 24" Samsung Syncmaster at home and it's the most beautiful screen I've ever worked with. 1080p, funky sensors for buttons too
  9. I would definitely have installed Server 2003 and presented it "Ta-da, here's what you asked for"
  10. I can confirm this is happening here too! An advertiser, perhaps?
  11. Totally read this as file server for all homeopaths And I thought we had some crazies here ... It doesn't sound like the server is too overloaded - you could only really tell by RAM/CPU consumption and whether everyone sees it doing it's job quickly and reliably enough. We have servers of a similar spec and usage, apart from the software running from shares. I always think it's best to share the workload to workstations with that
  12. Thanks for everyone's help and advice - really appreciated! Of course, it "just started working again" over the weekend... Many thanks again
  13. Hi all Wondering how to check the installed version number of my favourite piece of excellent software Target Tracker please? I've looked everywhere in the file structure but couldn't see anything! Thanks in advance
  14. Wow I can't believe they suggested that, how about they just don't bother renewing the cert!
  15. A bit of a coffee head here too.. Azera is nice, Millicano (Kenco) is better, but avoid the Carte Noire one - a strange concoction that is! Of course, much prefer ground coffee, Percol and Jamaica Blue being favourites
  16. Hi all! A few of our teachers and TA's need to do that really ugly writing where the text fill is an image. This seems to have disappeared from Office 2010, much to the disappoint of some team members.. Is it hiding from us or has it been removed? Any way to get it back? Or a little tool that would do a similar thing? Thanks in advance!
  17. Thanks for the replies! I'm not sure if he has Gold - I'll check - but she said it dropped during game-play. For clarity - one xbox, two live accounts. Cheers!
  18. Hi all, Don't shoot, but I'm not a gamer.. at all. A member of staff has an issue with her Xbox360, and I wondered if anyone here may have any ideas.. One son can play online quite happily (they have Virgin fibre), but for the other (with a different Live account) it drops connectivity, without an error, randomly. Apparently it has caused many a tantrum Has anyone heard of this problem before? Cheers! Matt
  19. These are superb, thank you so much for sharing!
  20. Are they having problems with speed and connectivity that would match up with what the "strength indicator" is telling you? If usage isn't impaired I wouldn't be too concerned. It could be any number of things - do any other laptops have similar problems in the same area? Maybe try reinstalling the wireless card driver.
  21. What happens prior to this? Immediately prior? If it is so out of the blue, with no one near it at the time, I suggest scanning for malware with a product from a different company than your existing protection.
  22. Managed to get permission to go to InfoSec this Tuesday at Earls Court - anyone else planning to go?
  23. Our children use i-Progress for homework and seemingly benign "tests". i-Progress, in turn, likes to use Adobe Shockwave, a group of people only joined by the Aztecs. Shockwave is updated to the latest version on all workstations, yet EVERY time a child goes to i-Progress in school, it refuses to recognise it and wants to install it. Is it demanding an older version or something? If it is, why on Earth?? Many thanks in advance...
  24. Personally, anyone that watches / partakes in the race will have lost all moral and ethical credibility with me. One country starts killing its citizens, we link up and help defeat Gaddafi. Another country, we invite the leader to tea with the Queen and give them this spectacle. I can't take the hypocrisy much longer.
  25. Exactly the same here
