oh, i just ran the test again....now i have component status error.... Had a quick look in Event viewer but wasnt very successful at finding anything. Googling comes up with a hotfix but i must already have it as it wont apply.

Details: Not found " - great, thanks for that. My other "test" (move file from share to client) isnt appearing in the model at all...

just to test it all, i'm trying to copy a text file from a share onto the client and am not having any luck. I just tried using %windir% but doesn't seem to have made any difference.

I'm not getting anything from this.... In Event Viewer GroupPolicy its listed under list of applicable Group Policy Objects. I've put it into my apps folder which Domain Computers have access to. Still nothing...

so if i change it to user and add it to somewhere like netlogon?

Ok, guys....i need to do this in a methodical way... What's the best way to do this. I have set up a virtual machine in its own OU, it is picking up GP's that are set up for the whole domain. This is a very simple GPP that i have put in there, shows up but doesn't apply. Could well be cus i've set something up wrong. That's fine, let me know... maybe cus ive done it from my folder in staff common? Talk to me like an idiot its fine, i've completely glazed over now.... So many options to look at...

I don't consider myself to be as good as your guys when it comes to IT. I know enough to keep our little network chugging along day after day. But this week has made me feel a complete and utter failure. I changed the name from curriclogon.bgi to CURRIClogon.bgi and that seems to have stopped it moaning. thing is when i had the error the background showed for a short while but now ive changed it you dont see it at all..

right, trying what you guys said, buts its currently not very silent! lol it's complaining that it cant find the configuration file...

I did wonder about that, but it was a "not broke, don't fix" scenario up until recently....

same, exe, bgi and batch are all on domain. Batch copies them onto client. Gut says client is the issue....

Right, ive got an ongoing saga in other threads with GPP's. (http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-7/104954-tidying-up-my-docs-win-7-a.html & http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows-server-2008-r2/105005-gpos-apply-fine-gpps-dont.html) I thought id cracked this one as it suddenly started working but stopped after a reboot. We've used BGInfo for all our machines when we were XP but now we're mixed its causing me issues like it has many others. On my win7 machine the image flicks on but soon returns to the old version. The Win7 machines are still using an old version of our student wallpaper (one that was there when image captured i think). I've tried both a registry edit and this Fred's Blog – Fr3d.org – Using Group Policy Preferences to control multiple BGinfo scripts. Now I had fleeting success with the reg edit. The image stayed whilst logged in. It was only when i rebooted that it reverted back to the old one again and i cant for the life of me get it back. This is all whilst logged in as a student. Strangely enough it seems to have picked up the changes i made to the admin wallpaper (i added another line of info). So is there a permission somewhere stopping it changing the registry?

Will defo try that... BUT just after writing that post, my wallpaper issue seems to have fixed itself...*scratches head*. I hate computers sometimes. Let me see how other things are..

im kinda at my wits end with this now. I created a new OU, created a new virtual machine. Only added the reg edit for changing wallpaper. Still nothing. I actually really hate Windows 7 on the network at the moment....

@glennda GPresult lists them in the Applied GPO list. For example the wallpaper issue im trying to fix is reg entry, says its GPO applied but when i look at the registry it still has the old settings. @Michael remember the proxy reg that i couldn't get to work? This is the same thing. This is a win7 machine im trying to get these to work on, not XP. XP machines currently still happy with BGInfo.............or is that the point. Would the reg overwrite BGInfo? Regardless, anything im trying to run as a preference doesn't work. I will try mapping a drive and @pete i have tried copying a file \\server\staff common\me\test.txt to c:\windows\temp.txt but it doesnt work. Is it where im copying it from? You know when you start to lose track yourself of the problem....or is that me?

Right, there are lots of 4016 & 5016's. Plus, I can find my the GPO's containing my GPP's. So, its picking them up but just not applying anything... I've got myself confused.... (happy bday @kmount!)
