Hi all, We are using Photoshop CS5 on Windows 7 via VDI in a box on thin clients. When we open an image in Photoshop, we get a purple "layer" over the image. The layer will vanish where the cursor is waved over the image leaving a trail behind it of correct colour. When you resize the window the "layer" comes back. I would like to explicitly say this is NOT a Photoshop layer! The image contains the one single layer. I use the work layer as I cannot think of what else to call it. Hope someone out there will be able to help. Ben.

File server, DC's everything except your backup server should be virtual, unless you have some specific hardware requirements. So your main file server should be virtual as well, and the storage available to your virtual host should be enough to house everything. Veeam then needs to have enough storage to back it all up. As for RAID scenarios, RAID 5 if you can afford it for backups, performance with RAID 1 isn't good but it may well suffice for 4 - 5 VM's. RAID 5 or 10 for the virtual host. IMO.

I was simply thinking of using the NAS box for your backup store. So it would present itself as locally attached storage, if it provides iSCSI, or whatever means you care to use, to the Dell. Although your Dell does seem a bit underpowered it's true. Best case scenario is a new server for Veeam, perhaps with lots of cheap SATA storage instead of a NAS box?

Virtualize everything except your backup server. So the dell you were going to use as a DC, I'd virtualize. You can always use the Dell as a second DC, or use it for backups with the NAS box. Virtualizing your backup server is bad news for the reason you pointed out.

We have had various problems that were never satisfactorily resolved by the support team despite long calls. Authentication issues, a firewall that was not as good as our five + year old Sonicwall, problems with reporting and the time it took to produce any. A few other niggles and issues, and we have had enough.

Dear All, We are looking to move away from Smoothwall as our UTM, and go to perhaps Palo Alto, or perhaps Lightspeed for the filter, and a separate firewall. But how do you do it? What is everyone else using??? Any comments or recommendations welcome! Ben.

It looks as if it is to do with the Proxy. Bypassing it does the trick. I shall let you know more as I find out.

OK, in the end we installed the Apple services, whatever they are called now, Bonjour? although this completely bypasses our print managing software.

Hello there Edugeekers... Bit of an odd problem. We have an IT suite, Win 7, and IE9 all round. When pupils log on and go to wordpress.com, they can log in OK, but when they go to upload a picture, the button does not work. The only ways I have found to get this to work are by right clicking the button and selecting 'Open in new tab...'. Or by the convoluted method of logging in as an admin, going to the wordpress website, clicking the Compatibility View button then logging off. The former is OK, but the kids keep forgetting what to do, the latter does not always work. Things I have tried include, updating flash, deleting profiles, clearing out all IE temp data, setting the wordpress.com website as a compatibility view website in group policy, using procmon to check for permission issues, chanting magic phrases, banging my head against a brick wall, shouting. Any ideas welcome. Many, many thanks, Ben.

Perhaps I should clear up that when I said re-bind the server, I actually meant the OS X server. If that helps any?

Dear All, We currently have about 20 Macs that are integrated into our AD domain with Golden Triangles and magic. They used to be able to print to our W2K8 print server no problems, but recently they have started asking for domain credentials in order to print. All I have done so far is re-bind the server to the domain as that was not authenticating properly. Now that is working fine, I don't know what to try next. Any help is appreciated. Many thanks, Ben.
