I'm sure there's a T's & C's breach there somewhere. Quite a few articles on a battle between Google and some of these audio ripping sites.

Well this is an artist's Vevo channel, or something along those lines. So the artist has clearly given permission for the video to be there. I'm guessing the ripping of the video, specifically the audio track in this case, is the illegal bit? Looking for some ammunition for a discussion about this.

On a related note: student rips YouTube video to an MP3 to use in ICT coursework (original YouTube video was placed by the artist on the site). Legal?

Nice simple site, which I guess it has to be. It doesn't address my specific case, as for TV it says "Use of programmes or clips from recordings originally made from television or radio broadcasts" but isn't clear enough in my opinion about the mechanism of recording/obtaining those clips.

Hi folks, I'm looking for AV supplier recommendations in Hants, specifically companies that have experience with microphone setups, headsets, mixers etc. Please note I don't want any suppliers to contact me from here, I'm looking for 3rd party recommendations from schools etc. on here. We're in NE Hants, so it may well be workable to have suppliers from Surrey and Berkshire. TIA

The mic would be no further away than a lapel mic (which we're using now). Unfortunately the request is specifically for lanyard mics, so I'm guessing the presenter in question has used them successfully elsewhere. Along with the Trantec headset mics we've been quoted a Yamaha 20 channel mixer (£550), mixer case etc.

antlear: There was an incident where the lapel mics were used incorrectly. We do have handheld mics, but people prefer not to use them because they get in the way of presenting. Blame and lack of training aside though, we've been told lanyard mics have to be bought, so that's where we are. By lanyard mic I mean a microphone that's attached to a lanyard around the neck, and it would need to be an integral unit i.e. not a lapel mic attached to a lanyard with a separate pack. Andrew_C: I hadn't been aware of the licensing requirement, but someone mentioned it the other day. We've had a quote for a Trantec system, and that included the mixer etc. so we're aware that this is not a trivial purchase.

Hi folks, We’ve had a request to replace our current mix of wireless handheld and lapel mics with two or four wireless lanyard mics. I’ve come across systems by Revolabs and Crestron, but just checking on the off chance that anyone can recommend (or not) a system? On a similar topic, we are also going to buy at least twelve headset microphones for school plays/musicals. Again, can anyone recommend (or not) a system? We’ve already had a quote for a Trantec system. TIA

Hi folks, I'm guessing that by default a user is given "Full Control" of their home folder. Is this the case? Is there any way to change this to "Modify"? The latest student wheeze is to deny permissions on their home folders to teachers, or remove everyone but themselves. I suspect it would be possible to change all these with NTFSFix, but I can't get this to work any more on 2008 R2. Any ideas? TIA

Fortunately this is just a one off, so I will encrypt when not on the domain, albeit keep a copy of the recovery key.

A startup key seems like no security at all - what are the chances of the user remembering to remove the USB key!

Thanks. Just spotted this also: To use BitLocker to protect an operating system drive on a computer without a TPM, the following option is available: Startup key only. All of the required encryption key information is stored on a USB flash drive. The user must insert the USB flash drive into the computer during startup. The key stored on the USB flash drive unlocks the computer. When the computer does not have a TPM, all of the information required to read the encrypted drive is included in the startup key. Hi folks, I'm trying to setup Bitlocker on the system drive of a laptop. The laptop does not have a TPM chip. Currently the laptop is not on a domain, so I have enabled the ability to set a PIN through local group policy (GPEDIT.MSC). Oddly though when I try and enable bitlocker it's only giving me the option to use a Startup Key. I don't want to use a Startup Key because it's not particularly secure IMO, I'd much rather use a PIN. Is there some trick to permitting usage of a PIN, or something I'm missing? TIA

I thought it might be to do with Creator Owner permissions. I tried removing the ability for Creator owner to "Delete" and "Delete Subfolders and Files" and that stopped the user from being able to save there. I will persist...

Hi folks, (2008 R2 file server.) I'm trying to setup a directory where students can save/upload homework. It means they need write permissions to save there, but I don't want them to be able to open other files. I've obviously used advanced permissions with the following set to allow: List folder / read data Create files / write data Write attributes Write extended attributes The following are sent to deny: Traverse folder / execute file Delete subfolders and files Delete A student account is able to copy files there, but they cannot save directly into the folder. They need to be able to do the latter, because we're using a remote access tool that uploads directly into the folder. Anyone know what permissions I'm missing to allow this, or whether it's even possible? TIA

OK, I rang The Environment Agency and they confirmed we *do* need it. The 500kg applies to the entire item e.g. a fridge, TV, computer, rather than just the quantity of hazardous waste inside it. Hence it could be possible for large schools to hit that quantity for disposal within a year. The company that collects the equipment for disposal is supposed to check that the organisation are registered. I suppose if the equipment is recycled e.g. used elsewhere rather than disposed of, then that isn't considered as disposal.

Just revisiting this, I'm still not sure whether we need this license or not. Gov.UK's page is not at all clear. It says if you're storing or producing over 500kg per year then you need the license. So if, as a school, we get rid of 500kg+ of the relevant material does that mean we need the license? https://www.gov.uk/hazardous-waste-producer-registration

The problem is we're federated via RM Unify, so I don't think we can connect directly into Office 365 from the DC.

Shucks. I could have sworn the Users > Active Users section allowed you to view up to 500 users at a time. Now it only lets you select 20 at a time. Is there an easy way to remove the license from 1,200 users?!

Hi folks, I'm considering getting an Oculus Rift DK2, which it seems the only easy place to get from in the UK is eBay. Although I haven't played many games for a while I have historically been an avid gamer, and love the idea of VR. The question is, has anyone used or own one, and is it worth it? (around £500 on eBay) TIA
