Great laptop, but ebuyer are doing a similar deal on Toshiba satellitte's with an intel chaip for £350. But this is for my own "consumption" as it were, not the schools. So I can't get credit with either Misco or Ebuyer

I'm after a relativly high spec laptop (Core 2 duo, 2GB RAM), so I don't have to replace it to soon. As a desktop replacment, as I am fedup of sitting in my room to use the PC. Anyone know any companies that are selling a good deal, and do interest free/low rate credit? I bought a laptop back when is started uni 6 years ago, and the world and its mother were offering "buy now pay 9 months interest free". But I can't find one now.

We have a Samsung HDTV. Wasn't that impressed with it playing Pro Evo on the PS2 on it. Lots of slowdown and pixelation, and the same with regular sky tv. Now I have invested in a 360 and Pro Evo 2008 in 1080p. I love it. Crisp, quick and clear. I now want Sky HD for next years premiership season. Think I might threaten to quit sky and see if the offer me a free HD box

A bit windy and wet here. One of the teachers (or students) left a window open over the weekend. So we have 2 very wet computers sat in our office drying out

They had it at a school I have worked at in the past, and the only fault i found was that if teachers logged onto a laptop via a wire, and thier wireless was also on. It logged them off as it thought they were logged onto 2 machines. Other than that quite robust and powerful. We however use NetSupport here

It does sound profile related however, as the local admin logs on fine. Surely Quicktime etc would be loaded by the local admin account

At my old school we used Liberium and it was a good system. At my new job we use an in-house system, which is a little simpler, and doesn't allow end users to log thier own support calls. This can be found on these forums somewhere if you search for Bournside helpdesk

Just to add to what strawberry has said. Your main customers are the students and thier education. Teaching staff when interview lap up anything to do with "Bums on seats in IT Rooms" or buzz terms like "teaching and learning" and "enhancing the educational experience"

Finally, someone with the same problem. At my old school we invested in a few of these, and at the time the NM had all printing setup on the DC. Not convenient when these printers started bringing down the network around our ears. As a work around we moved all printing to a less important server (intranet host) which could be restarted and not kill the network. Samsung were very unhelpful, but i got configuring them down to fine art. As has been said, disable Bi-Directional, print directly to printer, and start printing immediately

Hi all, I have been asked to place vanilla builds on a bunch of these that we have had in. Unfortunatly they have a SCSI hard drive interface. I have downloaded the necessary drivers and used them during windows installation "F6" to detect and partition the drives. These are loaded on via a USB Floppy drive. But once it has repartitioned and goes to "copy necessary installation files" it doesn't recognise the the driver floppy disk (or as i'm guessing, see the usb floppy drive anymore) I can also see this causing me issues when I come to ghost them. Anyone else had this issue and then resolved it?

How about a Commodore 16 plus 4? Or my Amiga 600 for that matter?

If your school has the budget, I would recommend a 3rd party system. We use websence running on an ISA server, its centrally updated with the latest ban lists. I havn't got a clue on costings as our network manager and head of it deal with it, but it works very well. Although any game playing we see over and above this we treat as a classroom control issue. The kids tend to bring .swf games in on data pens

As far as i know, outlook and exchange will look for perfect name matches. I have never known it to pick "next best" ie. you put in "John Doe", and the entry in AD/Exchange is "Mr John Doe"
