Updated and rebooted, still having issues with our printers not connecting. All papercut printers are showing "Can't connect to server, contact administrator"
-
DELL support pointed me in the direction of this link: https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-uk/000178586/update-poweredge-servers-with-platform-specific-bootable-iso which I've just burnt to a disk and run on the server so I'll update when it's finished rebooting. I had the same as you, the April update has been on for a while and issues only appeared on Monday, I already have the May update applied as well so not sure that fixes the issue. My firmware was quite a way out of date on the RAID controller, BIOS, Network etc
-
Of course it's an update that can't be uninstalled! @Leemanator Are your servers up to date on the hardware side, BIOS etc? I'm just on with DELL at the moment and they're checking it's nothing hardware related
-
YES!!! Any idea which KB that is off the top of your head? I'll try uninstalling it. svchost (1112) SoftwareUsageMetrics-Svc: A request to write to the file "C:\Windows\system32\LogFiles\Sum\Svctmp.log" at offset 0 (0x0000000000000000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes succeeded, but took an abnormally long time (19 seconds) to be serviced by the OS. This problem is likely due to faulty hardware. Please contact your hardware vendor for further assistance diagnosing the problem.

So we have the PERC H330 adapter and according to iDRAC everything is hunky dory
-
So just to add more fun into the mix, we've just had a powercut!!! It did give me the chance to run the Dell BIOS diagnostics though and no HDD or RAM issues, or any issues at all for that matter were reported. Unfortunately I was half way through installing openmanage when it died so I'll try again!
-
Cheers, it's a DELL T130, no warning lights on the front. I'm just trying to install openmanage now but obviously having issues because everything keeps freezing!!

Hiya, I'm banging my head against the wall, our Main server keeps randomly freezing. The first time it got noticed was when it took all the papercut printers out because they couldn't get a connection to the server. So far, I've ruled out that it's not Veeam and I'm struggling to see any software that's pegging the CPU at 100% or using all the memory or anything obvious. I tried to download a file on chrome while its had this issue and it freezes and when it come back the download has failed so it's obviously affecting the network connection as well. Program windows randomly say Not Responding and I can't click anything on the taskbar and then 5 mins later it comes back to life and works for a short while. Installs hang, uninstalls hang. I'm going to take it down after work tonight and do a memory and HDD diagnosis to rule those out but it's been running along happily for a few years now and all of a sudden with no changes it's started being a massive pain. I'm working by myself so it's difficult not having someone to bounce ideas off!

What're people using for their Hyper-V hosts?
Pyroman replied to Garacesh's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
Brilliant, thanks very much :-) Not that there's any spare cash at the moment but re-writing the disaster recovery plan has slightly terrified me -

Awesome, thanks very much. When you've got the storage spaces set up, does it just appear as one instance of Server 2019 and if you spin up a VM it replicates it onto both servers? Looking at previous posts S2D is basically RAID but with machines rather than disks? -

Sorry to jump on an old post but I'm just getting my head around virtualisation, we've been running single servers for years. If I get a rack server with enough storage to virtualise our servers do you not use the raid card as a raid and instead have it as a bunch of drives and use storage spaces / Hyper-V as a software RAID? -
Has anybody else has issues with their user creation templates disappearing from O365 admin portal? I've recreated them twice now and they've disappeared AGAIN! So frustrating!

Heya, We're trying to buy some licensed 2 way radios, we've picked the ones we want and we're waiting on OFCOM to grant us a license for the frequency but they've come back and said we need to be a 'legal entity' and schools don't count as legal entities as we're not registered at companies house? Surely other schools have licensed radios? Can anyone point us in the direction of something useful to go back at them with please? We're doing this via our supplier Cheers

Hiya, So I've followed the instructions here: https://www.azure365pro.com/how-to-implement-address-book-policies-in-office-365exchange-20132016-effectively/ But instead of custom attributes I've tried to apply using the department 'Student' New-GlobalAddressList -Name "Student-GAL" -RecipientFilter {(Department -eq "Student")} New-AddressList -Name "Student-AL" -RecipientFilter {((RecipientType -eq 'UserMailbox') -or (RecipientType -eq "MailUniversalDistributionGroup") -or (RecipientType -eq "DynamicDistributionGroup")) -and (Department -eq "Student")} New-AddressList -Name Student-Rooms -RecipientFilter {(Alias -ne $null) -and (Department -eq "Student")-and (RecipientDisplayType -eq 'ConferenceRoomMailbox') -or (RecipientDisplayType -eq 'SyncedConferenceRoomMailbox')} New-OfflineAddressBook -Name "Student-OAB" -AddressLists "Student-GAL" PS C:\Users\Richard\Downloads> New-AddressBookPolicy -Name "Student-ABP" -AddressLists "\Student-AL" -OfflineAddressBook "\Student-OAB" -GlobalAddressList "\Student-GAL" -RoomList "\Student-Rooms" The commands worked but the final policy isn't applied to students unless you manually do it in exchange admin centre, I assumed this should be auto applied because they're in the department 'student'. Even when the policy is applied per-user in Exchange admin centre the students can still see the default GAL as well as the new student GAL. Basically I was trying to make life easy and have all the staff on the default GAL and students on their own GAL so they could only see each other.

Sorry just to clarify, ALL services we recieve through the LA are ceasing, that's offsite backups, E-mail, broadband, filtering, SIMS is an extra we pay for via the LA, etc etc.
-
RGFL are shutting their doors on 31st March 2020 (nice to have loads of notice! ) so we're looking at finally 'going it alone' (which I've actually been toying with for a few years now anyway) Need some recommendations please, we are currently sat on a VDSL 80/20 connection from the LA apparently. We're going to need a new ISP - recommendations please (I use schoolsbroadband at another site but they seem extremely expensive) We're also losing access to the LA's O365 - Migrate to GSuite Education or O365 (discuss!) SIMS we're licensed through the LA so I'm assuming that's a ring Capita job and buy a new license/support package. Cheers

Thank You! I've never played with VLANS before so this is my first step into it before I flatten the whole network and implement VLANS everywhere. Still trying to get my head around tagged / untagged etc.
-
Heya! I've got 2 physical networks set up in our building and I need to get both of them to one particular place in the building using one connection. Currently we just have double of everything and we have unmanaged switches going to this part of the school Using VLANS can I have the two physical networks plug into a single unifi 24 port PoE Switch trunk over a fibre and then separate out at the other end in another 24 port UNIFI switch? I'd also like to be able to user any of the other ports on the UNIFI switches to pick whether I'd like Curric or Admin Network e.g. Switch 1 Port 1 - Curric IN Port 2 - Admin IN Port 3-23 - Choice of either Port 24 - Trunk OUT -----FIBRE RUN----- Switch 2 Port 1 - Curric OUT Port 2 - Admin OUT Port 3-23 - Choice of either Port 24 Trunk IN Cheers

Sorry properly pulling this one out of the archives but did you ever sort this? It's driving me mad with a few users! -
Awesome! You should send that to them!

+1 for Loxley, The canvases ain't cheap but their print quality is superb. I'd advise ticking the colour correction option as well so they give it a once over and make subtle adjustments to get it bang on as what you see on the screen isn't what will get printed unless you've calibrated your monitor to their print profiles
