Small Basic ver 1.0 Crashes on Run (RM CC4)
mellowip1983 replied to doug9270's topic in Educational Software
Did you have any success wit this? we have just been asked to start looking into the same issue, so far we have gathered: if the user hasn't saved our path rule for temp files worked. when the user saves the exe is in their documents and blocked by path rule. issue we have is we don't want to add a path rule to the users documents. -
we discussed this with out LEA as they provide our filtering & proxy. We ended up putting out Mac's in to an address band at the top of our IP Scope, then applied a filter set to that scope. So no AD username filtering sorted on our site.
-
To assist our Head of IT I created 2 small apple script applications that open ARD then send a lock screen command to all the computers in a group. We have been asked if there is a way to block students access to the internet but the closest we have got is a similar application that closes safari
-
but its not the analytics that have to implement then request to store cookies, its the site developer who chooses to use it therefore will need to ask permission for it. I don't like the ICO version as no one will click the accept cookies button and i will miss tracking what is popular on our site at the moment.
-
Has anyone got any thoughts on how to handle the new cookie law with google analytics? reading the article on BBC news BBC News - 'Action needed' to meet UK's cookie tracking deadline i prefare the idea of BT over that of the ICO just wondered if anyone was doing anything different?
-
MicrodigitUK many thanks this worked. I applied it last night and have tested this morning, users were not being asked for credentials. Now to just sort out little issues with students being able to access facebook. User 3204 which school are you in?
-
I shall ask the lea if there is a fqdn for the proxy, they have only ever issued us with an ip address. for now they have put the ip scope into a bypass so they aren't filtered at the moment but can access the internet.
-
Yep all the ones that access the internet are AD Bound. Will go take a look at this now.
-
The proxy does have AD integration but safari doesn't have use authentication set. Would like the students not to have to type anything due to their lack of ability. The proxy is a custom made to Wirral LEA called Evolution Web Filter
-
are there any keys in WGM to set the proxy username and password to the login credentials of the AD user? Our LEA has just upgraded our filtering and now the mac users are being asked for authentication

Can't connect to OCR on A2C software on exams day
mellowip1983 commented on cneilson6's blog entry in cneilson6's Blog
We started having issues last night after installing the software, very helpful guys at OCR said to email them a capture of the error and they will investigate. As recommended we downloaded results using EDI and all is well. -
Apple announces OS X: Mountain Lion. Summer 2012 Release
mellowip1983 replied to Arthur's topic in Mac
does anyone see any major advantages apart from improved AD/OD with 10.8 that will benefit a school environment? just thinking is it worth making a case for including upgrade fund in this years budget. Or are they building hidden features for new mac hardware in the middle of the year? touch screen iMac maybe? -

[ipad] Deploying and managing iPads
mellowip1983 replied to pran's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Do you have a mac server with your iMacs or are they all managed locally? if they are serious about moving 100% mac, I would say you need to get in a mac server if you dont have already, try setting it up and getting the features to work with your existing equipment then look to expand the use of them across the network, ideally getting the kit in and testing before replacing the windows machines. not only that you have the training aspect of swapping OS. If you use electronic registers like we do, does the system work on mac. i.e. we use sims but there is no sims mac client. -

Lone_Rider, are you an RM school? in terms of your questions: a - you can use either iphone configuration utility, this would involved applying a policy to each individual ipad plugging it into your computer. Or with a 10.7 server say mac mini you can use profile manager to deploy policy over the air. you enrol to the server from the device and can send policy out with restrictions. b - touchy subject, in theory you can use your apps on up to 5 devices i think, but there is no software that restricts this. Apple US have developed a bulk agreement but this isnt in the UK as far as i know. c - thats a big spend on ipads d - we have 7 so far and they are used for engaging students in numeracy and literacy, they have never been envisaged as used for controlled assessments. e - Apple have their own version of office namely pages(Word), numbers(Excel) and keynote(PowerPoint) which are available from the app store at £6.99 each -
Lion 10.7.3 Update still does not fix LDAP/WorkGroup Manager control?
mellowip1983 replied to Carter's topic in Mac
Hi Carter, In WGM is the group all the computers in the same name as that on the 10.6 server? maybe try creating a new group for the 10.7 server and apply the rules to that, see if they take, the other thing is the binding order, if i have OD before AD then the restrictions do not apply on my clients. -
In finder, can you organise the disk by date modified or date created then see what has changed in that time? have you taken an image of one of the imacs? maybe its put that on the disk if you use something like deploy studio?
-
is the partition used for user storage or just server disk?

Lion 10.7.3 Update still does not fix LDAP/WorkGroup Manager control?
mellowip1983 replied to Carter's topic in Mac
We use WGM on a 10.7 server to manage both 10.6 and 10.7 clients without issue. Was only asking about profile manager as i can't get this to work with our iOS devices. -
Hi Phil, We had a room of 25 iMacs installed in the summer, on average each of our students has about 500MB of quota just for basic word processing, excel. This integrates into our RM CC4 environment so documents are backed up from windows shares. The big job they do is video editing that is done logged on as a local user and the work is not backed up purely because of lack of space.

are you using profile manager to push out settings or OD? -
Mac OS X 10.7.3 released. Lots of Active Directory-related fixes!
mellowip1983 replied to Arthur's topic in Mac
Back into the apps now, the combo update didn't resolve the issue. Apple KB had this article that sorted it. Server App or Server Admin can't connect to a newly upgraded Lion server
