East Sussex based AV company
ivantalboys replied to mrlyonst's topic in South East Grid for Learning (SEGfL)
I have worked with Home - Ashdown AV for a number of years and highly recommend them. This summer they are finishing up a 2 year project to replace all our projector/smart boards with touch panels. -
We are currently having issue with a Win2016 Printer server. Several times a day, client computers will lose connection to the spooler and users will be unable to print. The Print Management tool on my workstation will report the server is 'down' and will trigger a notification if one is set. However, when on the server itself we are still able to send print jobs to the network prints. restarting the server print spooler service will fix the issue but any jobs sent from clients while it was 'down' are lost. We run Papercut (version 16) on the server and have tried restarting those services but that doesn't fix the problem. Nothing appears in the server print service logs to indicate that there is an issue, Im not sure that it should as the server itself has no problems printing. Looking for ideas where to look next. Thanks Ivan

We are looking to deploy Adobe CC with a limited set of apps ready for the new school year. We want Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom and InDesign. We have a shared device licence for around 50 computers and have managed to sync up Adobe with AzureAD to allow users to log in to the apps. Deployment of the apps is from the package created in Adobe admin console and pushed out via SCCM. Photoshop and InDesign launch fine but Illustrator and Lightroom don't. Illustrator complains about preferences folder not having the correct permissions and Light room just has a generic error. All our users have redirected AppData folder to a network share along with redirected documents etc. In testing if you don't redirect the appdata folder for a user they can launch both apps fine. I have reached out to Adobe support but they just say that redirected AppData isn't a supported configuration so there isn't anything they can do. I have looked at going to roaming profiles with redirected documents but that breaks the redirected startmenu. Have any of you experienced this and managed to get a work around?

SCCM has 2 built in devices, x64 Unknown computer and x86 Unknown Computer. There should be a collection with these 2 devices in. Deploy your imaging task sequence to the Unknown Computer collection and once a new PC PXE boots a computer it doesn't recognise it will attempt to apply the image. Your task sequence may need modification to allow for things like an unknown host name and joining the PC to a domain. You might want a separate task sequence just for new PCs. You also need to be careful if your boot images aren't password protected as anyone could plug a device in to the network and get an image.

We have 2 backgrounds. A blue one with the school name and 'staff network' in large text and a green one with school name and 'student network' in large text. Each one applied based on user log in GPO. In theory if I ever see a student using a computer with the blue background then they are using a teacher log in. its a legacy policy from when there were a couple of dozen computers in the school. In the run up to Christmas we swap it out for a non religious, snowy, seasons greetings, winter wonderland type scene.

Sharepoint for Staff drive and Iamcloud Drive mapper
ivantalboys replied to maxrebo's topic in Cloud Services
We use OneDrive for Business client to map user OneDrives as files on demand and that works well, the staff got used to their files being in the explorer tree on the left. We were going to start moving curriculum file storage from the shared drive to SharePoint but then covid hit and the focus shifted very quickly to Teams for classes and remote learning. Now that our staff are familiar with Teams we have started to move curriculum areas in to their own Teams. Science and PE have moved over so far and no longer have a shared drive presence. They currently all know that they have to manually sync the Team/SharePoint files for it to appear in explorer and they are happy doing that. There is a setting in the OneDrive GPO that will auto sync SharePoint files but I've not explored it fully. You need the SharePoint files GUID and it might be a bit of an administrative overhead but the ODfB client have been vastly improved over the last couple of years. We use it in the network team, although the settings initially force files on demand, we mark all important network files as keep on device so in event of internet issues we can access them .If you don't have software that expects to see a mapped drive then its something to look into. -
Cameras in Toilets
ivantalboys replied to Gongalong's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We have had CCTV in our toilets for 10 years now. All individual toilets and urinals are in their own stall with floor to ceiling walls and doors so there is privacy. There are CCTV signs up to advertise the fact. The communal area of the sinks is covered by the cameras and there is no door to the corridor. There was a parent consultation before they were installed and the feedback was very positive. -
Do you have Authenticated Users or Domain Computers delegated to the GPOs? Its a fairly old issue but a security update to group policy changed some behaviour that can stop policies being applied. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/ms16-072-security-update-for-group-policy-june-14-2016-7570425d-d460-3003-b2ac-a464c874725d

We use Microsoft's School Data Sync function to create teams and populate them for each class as listed in our MIS. Salamandersoft provide a free tool to extract the data from SIMs in to SDS compatible csv files for uploading. This is a manual process but doesn't take long. We are exploring their paid software to automate the process more.

Hello We have an issue with all our users when using the Teams client to attend meetings. No video is transmitted to the meeting and you can't see other attendees videos. The preview in the client of your own webcam is displayed for 25 seconds and then blacks out. If you turn off the camera and back on again you get another 25 seconds of preview before it blacks out, all the while no video is being transmitted. Other aspects of the meeting work fine, audio, screen sharing, chat etc. It is just video. This is only in the client, the web version of teams is fine. Things we have checked: Ports 3478, 3479, 3480, 3481 are all open and packet sniffing suggests the traffic is flowing across these ports. We are using a non-domain joined laptop to test so no GPOs or other settings are interfering. We get our internet from the LA who use Smoothwall filtering, we have disconnected our entire network from their router, plugged in the test laptop directly and still have the problems. When using this laptop on a separate internet connections (mobile hotspot) it works fine. The results of https://connectivity.office.com/ comeback as everything is OK We raised a support call with MS and their initial response was to check their published Endpoints were accessible as well as checking QoS. They have taken some logs though and are looking into it but we have yet to hear back. We have a support call with our LA who can't find any issue with the traffic and say that the endpoints are open and optimised. The behaviour suggests the Teams client tries to make a connection for the video, tries unsuccessfully for 25 seconds and then gives up, blanking the preview to alert the user to this fact. As this only happens on the LA connection something network related appears to be the cause but no-one is able to determine what. Has anyone else had this issue or any other suggestions on what to try next? Thanks Ivan

We have recently set up a hybrid environment for Exchange online and our on premises Exchange 2010 server. Its a full hybrid and over the last few weeks I have been migrating staff mailboxes. The mailboxes have been moving fine but I have a small problem. Some of the mailboxes have migrated with a receive size limit showing in the on premises exchange. The value is locked and it overrides any settings set in the Exchange Online. Is there anyway to change this?

In the OneDrive client 19.033.0218.0009 one of the new features is "Users will now get notified of in-progress file uploads when logging off the PC." I don't seem to be able to get this to work. I have tried this client and the new insider ring client with the all users install and neither of them notify if I log off with a file still uploading to the cloud. Has anyone had this working? I can't find any setting, GPO or reg key that might affect it. Thanks Ivan

Hi When a user using Outlook 2016 (msi version) attaches a file via the 'Browse web locations' option and that file is on Onedrive4Business and has a hash symbol in the filename or path it breaks. The attachment gets added to the email as a copy rather than a link (which is what we want) but it doesn't look like a file. The attached file is renamed and stripped of a file extension. the renaming is the portion of the folder or filename immediately prior to the hash symbol. IE this file when attached Looks like this The recipient can download the file and rename it to add the file extension back on and it works fine. We have special characters turned on in our Sharepoint settings so that files with these names can be uploaded. We use smoothwall as our filter but testing this bypassing smoothwall produces the same result. Any ideas? Thanks Ivan

HI I am looking to role out Office 365 and OneDrive for our school users. I have held off in the past due to lack of integration with Windows Explorer and the client wanting to sync everything to the local harddrive. I looked at mapping scripts in the past but these are too flaky. With the role out of Win10 1709 and the files on demand feature I thought this was our ideal solution. Testing has shown that it works in a way that we would want with one exception, the client being installed in the users appdata folder. As a school we don't have 1 to 1 devices so whenever a user logs onto a new PC it takes too long to provision the client. Has anyone found a work around for this? Thanks Ivan

Hi, I have recently noticed a small issue with our student PCs. It happens with all login accounts (student, Domain admin, local admin). when trying to open any application from the start menu search box we get this error. When browsing to a UNC path from Explorer (IP or hostname) we get this error When browsing to a UNC path from the Start Menu we get this error (slightly different error message) And the network Icon is missing from Explorer The problem only appears to have happened when I reapplied an old Student GPO that I had added a start up script to, its old settings were just fire wall and power settings but these had been implemented at a high level GPO so that was why it had been removed. A system restore on one of the affected machines to a date in early December fixes the problem although it is a very laborious process. I have tried various other trouble shooting to no avail. Search service is running, I have removed the firewall completely, I have reset the local policy to default, removed it from the domain, none of these seem to work. I am after some ideas before I a) tear my hair out and b) implement a reimage program over half term. Thanks Ivan

If you are getting play lists cycling through videos with out actually playing it maybe that the video is hosted on googlevideo.com and that domain hasn't been unblocked. I had a similar issue and opening up googlevideo.com worked for me. I am still having issues with play lists and subscriptions showing when directing to youtube edu.
