Just trying to get the festering turd that is the pupil version of the DIDA activebook working on Windows7 x64, and I'm running out of ideas fast. On xp, it runs from a network drive fine (relatively)! Running from the same share as XP, it crashes out without loading, with several "Library not registered" error boxes. Copying to the local C: drive and running with compatibility set for XP SP3 (or 2), it works fine, for a while, before crashing out for no apparent reason "Windows is searching for a solution to the problem..." Upgrading shockwave and Flash to latest versions seems to make the crashes less frequent but this may be psychosomatic! Has anyone got this working? short of running in a VM, or downgrading back to XP (I've already got an image just in case but these PCs are i3's with 8GB Ram!), I'm fresh out of ideas

It'd still be much simpler to just turn HTTPS off, so if anyone knows how to do it while I'm figuring the certificate stuff out, please say!

Just putting my toe in the water coming up with a BYOD system and I want Ruckus to authenticate with AD - that works fine in itself; the annoying bit is that, just like when I log in to the ZD management interface, a certificate error is generated every time with associated scary (for users) warnings. [TABLE=class: posts wide] [TR=class: post hentry] [TD=class: body entry-content]I don’t want to faff about spending £260 on a SSL certificate, but I don’t want anyone logging in to get certificate errors either; ZD's online help says: the “If” in that suggests it should be possible not to use https… where do I switch it off please? Before I begin, I haven't tried mandatory profiles since NT4 days when it ended badly, so maybe you guys who know about or use them can help bring me up to date a little I'm getting a little fed up of student roaming profiles (staff ones we can live with) breaking or getting excessively large and am once again willing to consider a mandatory profile for them all. Students already have: * a mapped drive to save their work to * "my documents" redirected by GPO to a folder they can't access to prevent them even thinking about saving there * a managed desktop (GPO again) mapped to a read only share. What else, apart from internet shortcuts, wouldn't work (or would only work with much fiddling) if we went to a mandatory profile for them all? Cheers in advance

Hmmm haven't got one of those, but from a little searching around it looks as if I can create one quite simply... I'll have a go!

I've got a UPS on the aircon... but it's just a small domestic unit as the server count isn't huge (Rural location => Lumpy electricity)

Could be why he's getting a good deal! That may not be a showstopper though so I could still do with knowing:)

Our Head has come to me for advice as he is in the market for a smartphone. He's seen a good deal on a Blackberry curve 9320 and the specs look ok but can anyone confirm whether it will connect to the web via a proxy so that he can use it on the web in school? It's the only bit I can't find. Cheers

actually I may have just found the cause and I think it's an opera problem my end. There are two shortcuts to it in my start menu - for some reason one opens 10.64 and the other 11.64 - I have no idea how that's happened but it does seem to explain some of the strange behaviours I've been seeing including this!

Make sure that your shortcuts are pointing to c:\program files\sims\sims .net\simsload.exe c:\program files\sims\sims .net\pulsar.exe and that the simssetupsfolder in c:\windows\sims.ini is set to the right place. As long as both of those are ok and your users have appropriate permissions on the local machine, all should be well.

This server's being retired in the next couple of weeks - I just need it to hang on until its replacement arrives!

attached is the spacemonger display of the 6.7GB windows folder on that server - which of those folders can be safely deleted? (size in the graphic indicates size on the disk) (and it wasn't me that decided to have Windows and data on the same partition....) *

Lightscribe seems to be worth a shot - I'll see what the powers that be say to having a Mono image rather than the pretty colour one fortunately black and gold are our school colours so that works out nicely!

Do these actually exist any more? if not, what's the alternative? we use one to print the DVDs that go out in the prospectus* (bump)

Can anyone suggest (and quote for, if applicable) a printer that will print on printable CDs and DVDs? our Epson R265 is on its last legs! Preferably (a) not HP and (b) one for which cheap compatible ink is available, but it may be a case of any port in a storm! Many thanks!

Just been doing a little digging on the Fujitsu TX150 S7 that we've already got (Backup DC so only 160 GB drives) and found that the drives in it (Fujitsu supplied Hot Swap) are Seagate Barracuda ST3160318AS 's - been doing a bit of reading on seagate.com (attached here 100529369b.pdf) and from what I can tell they're just standard drives - aren't they? the only occurance of "Enterprise" in the entire document is to say If that's the case is there really that much to gain by using the Fujitsu branded stuff at several times the cost?

I was going to stick to whichever manufacturer was in the caddies when they arrive... that any better?

What do you lot think? I'm putting a new file server in this summer as the old one is (a) full and (b) 7 years old going for a Fujitsu S7 like this Fujitsu PY TX150 S7 XEON X3430 2x2GB 1333 ECC UB/DVD-RW (VFY:T1507SX100GB) - dabs.com . I need a lot of storage, like 2TB or so... but the Fujitsu HDDs that size (1TB and use 4 for Raid 10) are really really expensive, getting on for £250 each. They're only SATA disks in any case. My brainwave is as follows: buy 4 small fujitsu drives, say 160GB, which are much cheaper, throw the disks away (well keep them as spares for workstations), keep the hot swap caddies and put 4 large standard £30ish SATA disks in instead. They're raided (and hot swappable) so reliability's not really an issue, and I've succesfully swapped a normal HDD into a caddy for our Acer servers so in principal it should work out fine shouldn't it? Unless of course it's possible to buy the caddies seperately, but I haven't seen any anywhere...
