  1. Exhibit #1: The Simpsons Exhibit #2: Wuppertal Ok that's photoshop old-school
  2. If you have access I would look at the access.log (tail –f /usr/local/squid/logs/access.log) file while someone tries to use Google, see what happens. Also do that with the cache.log file in the same directory. Hope that helps.
  3. Two approaches 1. Import each in to access then create an unmatched query through the query wizard. 2. In Excel use a column to do a vlookup and generate a yes/no result in the A spreadsheet to see if it occurs in the B then sort on the result. Hope that helps.
  4. Another thought is contention at the tape writing stage. You may need to increase threads/parrallelisms or partition the library to balance demand across devices.
  5. Sorry more questions ... Is the data co-habiting with any other that might be thrashing the source disks? Any new AV? - scan on access setting can impact backups in some cases
  6. Great link. Just need to find one that identifies free adaptations of commercial fonts by style. Would love to find a free equiavlent for Tourette or Bagworm Slab.
  7. There was this last year ... http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/61782-exporting-data-rm-integris.html Might be applicable for you too. Best of luck.

Naïve or overly optimistic is probably the worst I can manage Don't forget food prices, energy prices, rent, petrol ... you get the point. The cost of living just hasn't increased in line with average wage increment. In order to keep up payments across so many rising costs often both parents are forced to work these days. The advantages you list fit much more with the 20th century society where consumers can drive prices and resources are local. For example today the cars will be on the road because you have to drive to the local playgroup/library/special needs unit. Cuts and the fake promise of the big society meeting our needs mean not working is not an option.
  9. Douglas Coupland : Microserfs (tho a little dated now) or Miss Wyoming Phillip Reeve Mortal Engines series (Young adult but a brilliant series) +1 for Lovecraft if you can take the overwrought language.
  10. The death of... Books (which saddens me greatly), postcards and paper mail. The oil and gas industry and k's of the elderly as they gouge out the last of their profits in soaring energy costs. Privacy The birth of .. Flexible screens widely available- heralding embedded video 'newspapers' ala Harry Potter. Genuinely unified communications - fully portable identities Not the cheeriest of outlooks but as the band Stars say "When there's noting left to burn you have to set yourself on fire" So maybe we need the catastrophic fail before the phoenix like rebirth.
  11. Another deterrent (deter-ant - ) is talcum/baby powder put around the hole. Not only is it cheap and non-toxic but it just makes them move away, we figure they don't like it sticking to their feet. Also in our case it give the house a fresh baby aroma.
  12. Any of the well known Penguin Cafe Orchestra tunes - you know the tunes, you just don't know it's by them. Energy by Apples in Stereo
