Not really a sandwich but the vegetable samosa that M&S does is divine. I have cravings now for sweet, sweet samosaaaa *drools*

Is the machine joined to the domain and is the logged-on account a domain user? Otherwise you'll get a blank set of credentials back.

I would imagine that after something that serious it will be at least a year before he's looking vibrant again, if not longer.

Modelling. Only kidding! If I wasn't programming I'd probably be doing professional photography or audio engineering.
-
Not currently, no. I'm looking at changing this in future and I'll post here if I make any progress.

I'm thinking about changing the email notifications option so that it sends weekly summaries instead of instant notifications. What do you all reckon?
-
Backups take forever to run though!

Those users might have declined your policy and then, at the next logon, accepted it. That way they would no longer show as 'declined users' but the emails would still have been sent out as soon as they declined it. This is more likely if you have the decline actions set to restart or log the user off since they will then probably accept at the next opportunity. Let me know if that does or doesn't correlate with what you're seeing.

Could you mail me your application event log please? Feel free to filter it so that only events from AUP Informant Server are shown. wordpress{at}paulbeesley.com Cheers.

And 2.0.2 is now available for general consumption. It's a very minor change to 2.0.1, just addressing the issue that wasn't properly fixed. Please update to 2.0.2 if you are on 2.0.1.

Lars Bak - the guy in charge of Google Chrome's V8 javascript engine. Oh, the optimisation! *swoons*

I have sent you both PMs with a link to a testing build that does not attempt to use the event log in any way. Please check it out when you have a free moment and let me know if it resolves the issue.

When the policy window comes up, could you click the help button and make sure that the installed version is 2.0.1? Just ruling out any problems with the MSI updating the existing files.

This little thing - I'm amazed how small storage is getting! It's too thin for even a USB connector, you just shove it into a USB port upside-down and it works. Plus, it's the first memory stick I can carry around on my keyring without knowing it's there. http://www.verbatim-images.com/includes/binary_details_verimages.php?show=1&id=29608

Morning all, Version 2.0.1 is out today - this is a maintenance release which should fix the bugs you've reported over the past week along with some that you haven't. The full list of changes is available here. The most major bugs fixed are the issues with sending email notifications, problems with varying date formats, client crash on startup and font removal. Important Notes A word about upgrading from version 2.0.0. You can perform an in-place upgrade, there's no need to uninstall the old version first. You will need to upgrade both client and server - the software may well work without doing this but I cannot support anyone who is running mismatched versions. I will aim to write future releases so that you only need to update the server application. Your database will be preserved, however, this time around your settings will not be so please note them down first. If you have been affected by the date bug, you may need to recreate your custom reports if you have any. Finally, if you have been affected by the font removal issue that was reported, I have a repair MSI available here that you can deploy. Head on over and grab yourself a copy. I also updated the manual so you might want to download that again too.

Just thought I'd ask about broadcast packets flowing between VLANs. Can these be controlled by ACLs?
-
Righto, good to hear. This is fixed in the next release.

No problem. Shouldn't have happened in the first place. I've gone through and removed the dependency on the Segoe UI font - the program will now only use it if it's available on the system.
-
The installer installs the Segoe family of fonts which the server and client use. I didn't realise it removed them as well! Here's a zip file containing the fonts that would have been uninstalled. You can drag them back into the Windows\Fonts folder and all will be well again. I'll definitely have a close look at the installer logic. [update] Check my post below for an automated repair MSI.

I started developing the software in one of the express editions of Visual Studio which doesn't support developing services. I now have a lovely copy of the Professional edition through the university which does support services but to add that in would require a lot of deep changes now. I'm not ruling it out but it would be after 2.1 is released most likely. If you want to experiment with loading the current version as a service I would look into NSSM (the Non-Sucking Service Manager) that lets you register any application as a service. I'll have a go at this myself and see what the results are.

Okay, some progress. Let me give you a quick update: Crash on startup but works after admin logon The client uses the Windows event log as its logging backend. The first time it runs, it has to register itself as an event source before it can write to the log. Looks like this is restricted on some systems. Of course, as soon as you give it admin permissions it's fine from then on. I'll see if I can change the behaviour of the application and a fix will be rolled out in 2.0.1. Temporary workaround: Login as an administrator on the affected workstations. The policy does not need to be displayed for the workaround to be applied. You can log straight back off. mortstar's problem with RestartTDS.exe I had a look at the documentation for the QCA software and there's no port conflict as far as I can see. I suspect you're actually seeing the problem above as well. Emails not sending over SMTP I'm busy testing out several new mail configurations and performing a code review. Hopefully I will have something for you by Monday. Policy responses not recorded when using non-UK date format I will go over the date handling code and work through the relevant Microsoft docs to make it fully compliant with different culture settings. A fix will be in 2.0.1. I plan to release 2.0.1 on or before September 5th. This information will be kept current on the Known Issues page on my site at: Known Issues

First of all make sure that the server address is entered without any http prefix. You're right in thinking that both the address and account name are fine for authentication. Does the server require any kind of authentication? TLS isn't yet supported, SSL is but you might need to adjust the port. I'm away the rest of the day but I'll look into all the queries over the weekend and reply by PMs if needed.
-
Perhaps they use the same port. I remember deploying the app in my old school actually. Could I be a pain and ask you to start the machine with the QCA package installed (and without AUP Informant) and do a netstat -a on it? Odd how it works as domain admin but a port conflict is what first comes to mind.
-
Thanks for the detective work, I will get to patching this right away. I'll add a "Known Issues" page to the website so others will know the workaround. I'll drop you a PM when I know more.

Did you see my response here? I moved your post earlier, sorry. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/edugeek-aup-informant/40489-aup-informant-2-support-thread-new-post.html
