Wednesday (tomorrow) Looking for a suitable replacement for my netbook, and tablet/projector ideas amongst other things (and of course, freebies are always good!).

Hi, Does anyone know if there is an online floor plan/planner this year? (or even one I can print off would help!) Would like to plan my route in advance for tomorrow so I don't finish quite so late this time, but can't find any obvious links on the Bett website (think I had similar problems last year as well!). Thanks, Peter.

It's been done based on location/type at the schools I've been at - I can imagine doing it by asset/serial number could get a bit confusing! One school I've been at has a system where the name is 8 characters, the first character a letter describing which building (e.g. B), the second a number for which floor (e.g. 0 for basement, 1 for ground floor, etc). The next three characters are the room code, the 6th character is for machine type (C for desktop, N for laptop/notebook, P for printer), and then the last two for what number it is (01, 02, etc). If the device is something like a laptop/notebook which doesn't have a fixed location, the first two characters change (e.g. 'nb' for a laptop). The room code varies, but normally something like for teaching classrooms 'R' followed by the classroom number, or offices, the third letter is 'O'. E.g. B0ADOP02 (for the second printer in the admin office in the basement) NBTR2N05 (for the fifth laptop in laptop trolley 2) C2R27C01 (for the teacher computer in classroom 27 on the first floor of building C) Hq.

Same with AOL as well - my parents still have their AOL email even though they left AOL at least 5-6 years ago. Hq.

I still use a windows mobile phone (windows mobile 5) for my main phone, and also have windows mobile 6.5 on a spare phone which I've not got around to moving across to yet. Unlikely to move to Windows 7 (or android/iphone) as they're to restrictive in locking down what programs you're allowed to install (plus I've yet to see a more recent phone with a proper builtin keyboard (like the HTC universal/spv m5000) as opposed to an onscreen keyboard that takes up half the screen! Hq.

BETT: win VeryPC at Edugeek stand, plus call me for a freebie!
Harlquinth replied to VeryPC's topic in Our Advertisers
Didn't realise there was a prize draw to enter! I think I might have seen you at the edugeek stand, but didn't speak to you (found/visited the edugeek stand near the end of the day). Am I still able to enter at all? Thanks, Peter. -
Made me smile! One of my colleagues found this floor plan this morning (by searching with google), which is what I remember from last year: Bett Show 2013 : Floor Plan No idea why it isn't linked to on the main Bett website though, the only floorplan there seems to be a pdf version which doesn't have any key saying what the stand codes are (I even checked the site map, http://www.bettshow.com/Sitemap, in case I'd missed something, but that only has a link to the pdf version as well!). Now I just need to work out how to use the interactive floorplan (for some reason the help button doesn't work for me, *sigh*)... Many thanks, Peter.

Hi, Hoping someone can help! Just wondering how people are planning their routes for Bett this year? Last year, I'm sure there was a route planner on the Bett website that you could use to select which stands you were interested in, and it produced a useful map/list showing where they are, but this year I can't seem to find it (unless I'm missing something obvious?). Or alternatively, is there a way of getting a list of all the stand codes/names on one page so that I can print it out to work out my own route, or is there any software for Windows mobile 5/6.5? (The only mobile apps I can see are android/apple related.) Many thanks, Peter.

If anyone else is having the same problem, and isn't sure exactly where the sensor is (like I was earlier!), see the "Cleaning the CTD Sensor Inside the Printer" section on this link: Documentation Hq. P.s. Have a Merry Christmas! :-)

Tierra.net / Domaindiscover.com problems?
Harlquinth replied to Harlquinth's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Seems to be working again now, hopefully it stays that way! Someone pointed out this article on the BBC to me which looks quite interesting - makes me wonder if this was a practice for what they talk about in the article!: BBC News - Viewpoint: How hackers could decapitate the internet Thanks again for the help/suggestions. Tierra.net / Domaindiscover.com problems?
Harlquinth replied to Harlquinth's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
The backup connection is a completely different ISP as far as I know. Our normal connection is synetrix, and the backup one is eclipse. Just been looking at twitter in case that had any info, and it looks like a few other people people are also having similar issues, though still not any detail on what the cause is: https://twitter.com/#!/search/realtime/tierranet Thanks, Peter. Edit: Just noticed a new post on twitter saying that there's a partial dns outage: "Partial DNS outage with @tierranet & #domaindiscover" -
Tierra.net / Domaindiscover.com problems?
Harlquinth replied to Harlquinth's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi, We tried using our backup internet connection (just a normal broadband connection) earlier as well in case it was a problem with our normal internet connection - just tried again and it still isn't working (not with the ip either). Interestingly though it does work if I remote to my home computer, so could some routes through the internet to that ip address be working and some not working? Our domain name is http://www.trinity-school.org. Thanks, Peter. -
Hi, We've just started having problems this morning accessing our school's .org domain name, which is hosted by domaindiscover.com (who seem to be part of tierra.net). Just curious if anyone else is having similar problems, or has any idea what the problem(s) might be? At the moment you can't even access the homepages for tierra.net or domaindiscover.com, so it looks like something quite serious! Thanks, Peter.

The best freebie we found yesterday was a toolkit from the switchshop stand. Dell and Asus had quite nice cloth bags as well. Peter.
-
Signed, also shared on facebook as well.
-
Poster? Didn't realise there was a poster to sign, but I only managed to quickly stop by. Peter.
-
Hm, maybe that explains it as I've signed up with less than two weeks to go. Peter.
-
Hmm, maybe the email is just being misleading then! Will wait and see if it comes through the post - just wanted to check I wasn't missing anything obvious. Thanks, Peter.

Hi, Just wondering if anyone can help with a question about badges for Bett. When signing up for Bett in previous years it's given me the option to have my badge posted to me, which I found quite useful last year as it saved me having to queue to collect it. This year though I don't remember seeing that option when I signed up, and the confirmation email I received just says "Your entry badge will be available for collection at the show, simply print off this confirmation page and collect your badge from the registration area at the exhibition entrance.", whereas I was hoping to get it posted. Does anyone know why this might be - could it be because I didn't have a priority code to put in this year (I have changed jobs in the last year, so any Bett info would have been sent to my last job). Looking forward to seeing some of you at Bett - I'm currently thinking about going on the Friday, but still need to finish deciding. Thanks, Peter.

Many thanks, missed that button! Thanks ,Peter.

Thanks - I missed it in log viewer as I didn't realise you have to drill down to find out the application usage. Is there any way of viewing/exporting all of the application usage for a whole group over a certain time (e.g. 1 week/month) at all rather than having to drill down or search for individual applications? Or alternatively does impero store the data in something like a sql database that I could connect to and run my own queries? Thanks, Peter.

Hi, Whilst searching I came across this post, http://www.edugeek.net/forums/windows/28733-program-usage.html#post271304, which is something that would be quite useful for us to do, however I can't find any program usage reports in our version of Impero (3.1.08), I can only find the computer usage reports. Is this something that is no longer available in Impero, or am I looking in the wrong place for it? Thanks, Peter.

Windows update website wont work on XP SP3 - thinks it hasn't got SP3?!

Windows update website wont work on XP SP3 - thinks it hasn't got SP3?!
Harlquinth replied to sidewinder's topic in Windows
Running the windowsupdateagent 3 update seemed to fix it for us as well (have tried it on several machines both with and without sp3, and it fixes it each time, so despite the page saying windows updates won't work without the latest service pack it does still work with sp2). For some reason it kept coming up with an error saying it couldn't run the agent fix last time we tried it, but this time we ran it before installing anything else and joining our domain, and it worked fine. Hope that helps if anyone else is still having issues! Hq. -
Windows update website wont work on XP SP3 - thinks it hasn't got SP3?!
Harlquinth replied to sidewinder's topic in Windows
We've been having the exact same problem with some laptops we've been trying to create a new image for - I was able to get onto the Windows Update site on them fine last Wednesday morning when I was testing something, however by Wednesday afternoon it was coming up with the redirect page. I've tried all of the fixes in this thread as well as installing using Windows XP SP2 and SP3 cd's (and upgrading to SP3 with the SP2 cd), and nothing seems to be working! Quite frustrating as we were hoping to be using the laptops for some wireless testing this week...I was hoping that Microsoft would have fixed it over the weekend, but it still doesn't seem to be working..
