Always worries me a little agreeing to 'this app can see and download all your 'data & contacts', see and delete all the files in your drive, view and manage all your information, find out where you live and throw a brick through your window if you uninstall it'... I mean I think understanding that it means the app needs to be able to create and delete files so it can function is still something I'm not getting... it always makes me pause before I hit the save button. Do you have to work out each time what will cripple the apps usability if you don't allow it access? Take Canva for example, does anyone limit those scopes, or have a 'it will work with these scopes' cheat sheet I can use? Or just go 'yeah I let it see everything'?

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD **SPOILERS** Catching up with the latest (and hopefully last) season of 'Fear The Walking Dead'. We'd forgotten all about it as for a long time it was on Prime (I think) to purchase. As usual the first couple of seasons were OK, but went downhill quickly... I mean it was always the poor relation, but man now it really stinks worse than the dead (I imagine)! Honestly, we've worked out that Madison is actually a walking apocalypse all on her own... a literal representation of Death riding in on the pale horse, everything she touches turns to excrement... everywhere she goes ends up destroyed... and nearly everyone she comes into contact with (apart from the main characters obviously) dies. There's no 'I wonder what's going to happen next?' as you know wherever she turns up in that episode will be a smoking ruin, full of corpses and zombies by the end... The character arcs are preposterous, non-sensical, laughable and mostly unbelievable, the forced jeopardy in every situation was written by a bunch of people saying OK, so here's the scene... 'what's the worst thing that could possibly happen... OK, we'll do that... and then what's the worst thing that could happen after that...' I mean, I get it... the actual Walking Dead felt like a snooze-fest for most of the last few seasons with nothing really happening in each episode... but make it believable, not just added in for the sake of it... Characters, even after spending years avoiding the dead (who can do no more than amble along noisily like a toddler) still walk around as if in a daze, getting attacked by surprise... the fights and the falls and are so slapstick they might as well all be running through the woods looking back and tripping over a branch, they're that obvious (**SPOILER** Madison getting hit in the head with a shovel) and the 'surprise' reveals have all been called by me or the OH. Every situation is prolonged by not actually shooting the protagonist (and making sure they're dead), which I think in a Zombie apocalypse you just would... you wouldn't negotiate, or 'wait and see' what happens (because you know you've just made an enemy that will hunt you down for the rest of the episode/season/run)... The latest episode we watched, my OH turned to me and said 'I thought Madison needed an oxygen cylinder', she had not even touched one all episode (she had in fact been running about on-screen for most of it)... **SPOLIER** Oh, and the surprise daughter...? Called by the OH 3 episodes ago... This last season is mostly more of the same, but with a lot of 'I thought you were dead'... 'no, I thought YOU were dead' as all the old characters are re-introduced in each episode... and the fact they all keep ending up in the same place... or finding their way back... or catching up with the people that wronged them...? No.

I haven't had a sausage in me for years... said the actress to the Bishop... No, seriously.... The OH went on a health kick ages ago and started buying Heck chicken ones! Then she pretty much stopped cooking altogether (to be fair, neither of us can be bothered to spend the time cooking and washing up) and started buying ready made meals from Cook (of course I only get the ASDA microwave versions)... 🙄

Firewall rules deployed by USER GPO and not COMPUTER?

Now I understand why Egress messages get caught in the quarantine, they are also spoofing the user as it comes from the platform using the username... originally I thought it was something to do with the attachment and couldn't work out why my attachment allow rule wasn't working! Found in the header: [email protected] Looks like as everybody is already doing this (and as it seems it isn't causing any issues), I'm going to have to relax my security settings a bit!

OK, so an update... and a contender for a post in the 'Annoying Things' thread! After spending the day trying to sort this out, uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook and getting many different and opposing answers from the internet, it seems that Outlook either can or cannot connect to a GMail account... trying to create 'app passwords' and looking for the 'less secure apps' setting in Google Workspace'... and that's without having to wade through all the 'Do you mean Outlook on the web...?' 'Do you mean O365...?' Do you mean New Outlook...?' Do you mean Outlook app for mobile...?' Worse thing is after various attempts to uninstall Outlook and remove all trace from my computer, every time I reinstalled it, the same email accounts came up and tried to autodiscover using settings that I thought might be wrong (or in case I hadn't used the 'new' authorisation/verification methods when I originally set it up)... I couldn't seem to find where Outlook was getting these settings from, let alone how it still knew of them after I deleted pretty much every Outlook related file and registry setting I could find! In the end I tried a new email account name so it didn't try to autodiscover and at least that came up with a 'Sign-In With Google' prompt, so I knew it was likely still possible. However, signing in to the GMail account still brought up the error that it couldn't connect... However... over the weekend I thought I would give it another go and tried it on my laptop from home... just in case it might have been ISP or filtering issues at school. Opened up Outlook and it connected straight away, all accounts still connected and synced... no issues! Came in this morning and did a final reinstall of Outlook on my computer and it found the accounts... this time when selecting them each one connected and synced without issue... I have also tested another user's Outlook that was having issues (which I only found out about on Friday afternoon) and that is OK this morning too! W T F 🤬 So, what went wrong? Glitch in the Matrix? Network issues? Outlook issues? Google issues? No idea! I know you're probably going to say 'why don't you just use GMail?' but in all honesty I hate GMail... it looks like it was made by children, for children... I hate the interface, I hate the 'labels', I hate the way it orders conversations, I hate the way when you do get the conversation in the right order it throws you to the bottom of the thread to reply'... IMHO it's not an Enterprise worthy app for someone with 7 or 8 email accounts to manage....

Microsoft Office LTSC Professional Plus 2024 Having some issues getting Outlook to connect to GMail... I have 4 GMail and 2 Exchange accounts to deal with so Outlook really is the best option for me. I also have 5 other members of staff that use it, so if this is a sign of things to come, I guess I'll need to know how to sort it out soon... Recently Outlook has been struggling to Send/Receive my various GMail accounts (fine with Exchange accounts). Today it stopped completely and gave me the error that it couldn't connect to the server - We couldn't connect to the outgoing (SMTP) server. I removed one of the accounts, but then it refused to add it back! I've read some stuff about Google starting to requiring better authentication methods and I also read that this is possible with Outlook. I uninstalled Office Pro 2021 LTSC and installed Office Pro 2024 LTSC, thinking it might give me some different ways to authenticate, but no still the same interface without any other options and still the same error... Most of the instructions say: Open Outlook and go to File: Navigate to the "File" tab in Outlook. Add Account: Click on "Add Account". Enter Gmail Address: Type in your full Gmail address. Connect: Click on "Connect" or "Continue". Google Sign-in: You'll be redirected to a Google sign-in page in your browse But step 5 doesn't happen...

We have DHCP on the switches. I'm not an expert in any of this so can't give you any actual help, however... Unfortunately ours (old CISCO kit) have no helpful GUI, all done by CLI... they were set-up like this before I started (BSF funded). The IT support here at the time was minimal (half a day a week or something) and I'm guessing they thought it was better that way as the new BSF cabling, switches and WAPs came with a fully funded support contract for a few years. Never bothered to take it off to put it on the server as never really had any issues with it as such (only pain was when we needed a whole new IP addressing scheme and VLANS re-created).

I can't see any 'Safety' settings based on Groups apart from this and it is aimed at the Domain rather than the group name. The only ones based on name seem to be for individuals users.

We use Adobe Sign but had to purchase a Pro license as I thought out our LGfL purchased Adobe Creative Cloud license was OK as it included Acrobat Pro..... Guess what part of Adobe Acrobat Pro isn’t included in the Creative Cloud ETLA license subscription!

Well, I have quite the quandary... and unfortunately given the subject of this thread I'm not sure my problem will receive any favourable replies! We have moved to a bungalow in a semi-rural village. The previous occupants had lived there quite a few years but from what we can ascertain were an elderly couple and only an old lady lived there in the end. The garden was by no means a jungle, but had suffered somewhat from the obvious lack of regular maintenance. It must have been stunning in it's day, but now everything is overgrown. Down one side (right-hand in the photo) is a very tall hedge (maybe +15ft), a mixture of Box, Lilac, Elder and Hawthorn. On the other side (left-hand in the photo) and at the rear, is a smaller hedge (but massively overgrown and mostly dead on our side) of Box Honeysuckle (the hedge kind obviously, not the climbing kind), it's very wide though as it apparently 'walks' forward if not trimmed. In front of this, which probably hasn't helped, is a massive 20ft fir tree, a large mock orange, 2 x (very leggy) red robin, another Lilac and a couple of unidentified as yet bushes/shrubs etc. There are a few (again mostly dead) conifers in there too.. so on this side we lose at least 6ft of garden! There were also a few box type shrubs dotted around, a Flamingo Willow, some very leggy Lavender, lots of Ivy and various other plants/shrubs. The garden isn't big, but as you can see is more of a retired person's garden, or at least someone who can spend every weekend out there. A lot of the trees and shrubs block the countryside views and I guess is more of an introspective garden, whereas we want something a little more open as we moved from a town (think patio slabs, fake grass, and gravel with views of a motorway and a massive Lidl warehouse). Anyway, sadly I think a lot of it will have to go... So my 'problem' is two-fold really as it is obviously a haven for wildlife... I mean not badgers, foxes, or deer... more like hedgehogs, mice and... rats... 'move to the country' she said... The loft had been infested with mice, very likely for years. I have had to remove all the loft insulation, finding 3 dead ones (which had decomposed onto the loft floor) and they'd pretty much used the whole thing as a toilet as everywhere was covered (lifting the insulation resulted in what I can only describe as mouse poo falling out like chocolate sprinkles)... we are still trapping (and releasing) them even now! The rats climb the bird feeder pole as easy as if it was a ladder, to get the bird food (which I think I've prevented mostly now with two metal frame hanging baskets zip tied together).... but the worst issue is the hedgehogs... We have dogs, Greyhounds to be precise and they are so prey driven that we have to collar them, muzzle them and do a lap of the garden with a head torch before we let them out in the evening! This started when a neighbours cat narrowly escaped through a small gap in the hedge at the end of the garden (see photo), followed by one of our dogs, who skinned her nose on the farmer's wire fence behind as she was going full speed.... we thought the cat might have learnt their lesson, but then the second time the cat escaped minus a clump of fur, even though it had half the garden head start.. so that was a little too close! Now, we have hedgehogs (living in the hedge I think) and in the summer heat we have to have the windows and doors open, which leads to much chaos late at night. If it were a cat the sound of the dogs crashing through the kitchen on the way out would give it time to make a hasty retreat, but the hogs just curl up... this leads the dogs to bark, whine, paw at it, nose it (yes even though it hurts) they just will not (or can not) leave them alone... (last night it was nearly 01:00 and the neighbours have mentioned it a couple of times now), there is nowhere to put the hogs as the hedges are too tall/wide to put them over and so I've taken to putting them in an old cat carrier in the shed until the dogs have done their thing and gone back inside.

Time for pastures new then?

Thanks, but the display name is different to the username, so I think it must be reading the actual name in the username part and then just ignoring the fact that's it's from a completely different domain. I'm not sure if anyone would be fooled into opening an email sent by [email protected] just because we have a user called [email protected]... (maybe with the added banner they'd be cautious), but hey, you never know they might and you can't be too careful, right?!

Can't remember what I went through that far back (late 90s), but I do remember at some point thinking I needed to get something better than the onboard GFX I had, the only trouble was my motherboard only had PCI slots (no, not PCIE/PCIE-X) - actual PCI) and the card choice (memory failing me now but if iirc I think Voodoo 3dfx does ring a bell) was limited as I think AGP had been the new thing for a while... but that meant changing the motherboard, CPU and RAM!!! Anyway, when I finally bit the bullet (early 2000s), I took the plunge and went AGP I got the holy grail (for me at the time) and got my ATI RADEON 9800 Pro... that lasted a while until I went NVIDIA... 6800GT, 7800GTX (which was one of the last AGP cards - was still trying not to change my whole computer because... GFX). And that, ladies and gentlemen is how I became an IT Tech....

Just a post to note some Google GMail quarantine behaviour... Today I found an email (NOT from Arbor password reset this time...) in my 'User Spoof' quarantine. This quarantine was set up to receive emails based on one 'Safety' setting: We have a generic 'finance' office email address that only the bursar and BM use and the email got quarantined because another school obviously has a generic 'finance' office email address... :doh: [email protected] gets quarantined because we have a [email protected] 'user'...? Is everybody turning these safety settings off, finding a way to bypass them, or just dealing with the quarantines daily?

I used to be a fan of getting old computers up and running and always built my own, but in the last few years of doing this job all day, my appetite for dealing with BSOD, driver incompatibility (if you can even find them), chipset weirdness, component fatigue, made it a lot less fun than I remember it... countless hours, evenings, weekends... Honestly from Windows 10 (as much as I resisted it at the time) has made vast improvements on reliability which I take for granted these days! Probably not for the era the OP is thinking of but anyway, as for the drives, I have in the last couple of years swapped out laptop drives to an SSD for a few teachers as they brought their personal laptop to me asking if I could speed it up as it had put Windows 11 on it and killed it. Sure enough, although only a few years old, they were mechanical 2.5" 5400 RPM drives (albeit SATA)... So I didn't accept payment, but I kept their old drive, iirc one was 1TB and there was a 2TB one, so I put them in some of those old builds as data drives and never had any issues. A couple of the smaller ones I even managed to get in RAID 0...

So, they've removed that and put a black screen instead of blue and it just restarts too quickly meaning digging around in dmp files...? Ah, as if I don't feel old enough, in a few years all the kids will be looking at old memes and asking 'what's a Blue Screen Of Death...?' As for the restart, I haven't had to deal with it for a long time... 🤞 does turning off auto-restart in advanced system settings still work (although pointless if it's not going to identify anything)?

Another issue is that when looking at a child's safeguarding history (full history) it shows all entries as being at a particular school (possibly their current school) and yet the incidents have dates that mean the entries should be attributed to their previous school.

I apologise in advance for any confusion, incorrect terminology and lack of screenshots as I don't use CPOMS or Arbor and don't get involved with Wonde... Our Headteacher has raised an issue with me as neither they or the Safeguarding Lead has had any luck. On CPOMS when you look at the entry for a child, next to their name it shows (No Registration). We have a few children with the same name and apparently this has lead to an entry being made against an incorrect child. However, if you search via Registration Group (or form?) you can see which children are in which class and when you select a child and go into the details it has which class they are in, so it knows but just won't add it to their entry when you look at the a list of names. Both CPOMS, Arbor and Wonde say it's nothing to do with them.... confusing and frustrating!

Not the entirety of your OP I know, but could you get most applications setup with self service password reset systems?
