Red Hammer for me -
Try http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html and download Virtual Clone Drive, its the one I use

We once bought some promethean boards, decided they weren't worth the bother supporting them and bought SMART instead. We seem to have far less problems with these (it was a while ago so things may have improved since then)

A Quick Guide to Thin Client Computing - as promised!
logonui replied to Ric_'s topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
We have been thinking of going down the thin client route but management seem pretty hot on streaming media at the moment, how does this fair in an environment that is in use every day? I have seen examples at BETT but the video was a bit too jumpy to get a clear idea. -
Plus if you start installing software on a student machine then they will expect you to support it

New 2D Design talking to the Old Mill Design
logonui replied to Sean's topic in Educational Software
we had a similar problem with 2d design and primary design -
I popped round on Friday with both of my bosses. They don't seem to mind me being on here now lol. Not sure who we spoke to but he seemed like a nice bloke.

If you are going to go with the experience over qualifications make sure you are working in a place that is willing to train you. I got a job as a techi in a school straight after college and I am now stuck. I'm not earning enough to do any Microsoft certs and the school wont pay for them.

The main reason we would like an msi is purely for new machine builds, if it is a choice between installing all software automatically during the os install or doing things manually i would rather save the time and let the msi do all the work. Especially when we have 100 odd staff machines to deploy to

If you want interaction Flash is another alternative most computers have flash on them now, just dont use the latest flash player build because it will limit your audience

I prefer AutoIT for automations i found it far easier to learn and comes with its own compiler
-
Yeah we should probably have some sort of cooling for the PCs but being boxed in its not likely to do much anyway
-
tried using second life but i just found it anoying having buildings floating in the air and it didn't help that my machine couldn't quite cope wit it
-
yeah all the IT rooms have air con other than one but we still don't have any problems
-
the only ones that we have running in our machines are the CPU and PSU fans, the machines are also boxed in to stop the getting access to the back
-
The students can be quite original at times. I opened a machine up a few months back because the fan wasn't working and what must have been at least 2-3 inches of sherbert poured out of the side all over my lap. I still to this day don't know how they got it in there, it must have taken them ages

I found a blue screen of death screensaver that made out that the machine was on a boot loop, installed in on my managers machine and unplugged the keyboard and mouse. Came back into the office about an hour later and he was still trying to work out what was wrong, you would have thought being a Network manager he would have thought of these things

Just had my first "dangerous wireless radiation" complaint!

Also has anybody ever noticed that sparkies can't run data cables to save their lives, every time we have had people in to run mass amounts of cables management always decide on the sparkys and we spend the rest of the year tidying up. -
Tried this a while back, tried to get rid of it and it has somehow attached itself to a number of roaming profiles. Wish we had never discovered it really. Try deep Freeze instead, i managed to delete a large majority of the C drive, rebooted the machine and it was all back. Give it a try it makes your machine bullet proof. I havn't found anything that can beat it yet

As our school hasnt gone over to Vista yet (and probably wont for a long time) i would recommend RIS. I have Dabbled in WDS and found it overly confusing, RIS i picked up straight away

DVD's not displaying on interactive whiteboards (IWBs)
logonui replied to firefox_2006's topic in Windows
If the display drivers are nVIDEA try changing the full screen video settings when set to clone display mode to secondary display -
Power DVD does exactly what it needs to do and we get a license with most laptops we buy anyway
