IMHO I don't think anyone would be talented enough to write the material that Karl comes out with, it is just so funny and innocent you have to love him. If anything it's Ricky and Steve shouting at him and calling him a "bald manc twat" all the time that really irritates me. Does Ricky think he's being funny? No-one listened to them podcasts for him or Steve. Extras is pretty good imo but it may have been Steve who wrote the funny bits, we don't know. Office was piss, in every way.

The only thing he did that was good was discover Karl Pilkington, a hilarious fool with the podcasts being my favourite comedy ever.

Don't mean to hijack here but I would like a slight modification to this script as I need to copy a couple of folders into every users home directory, don't know how to set up the (*) wildcard properly though, any help appreciated.

Setting up a new domain in anew forest (so new builds only) is an increbibly long winded process now, I had no idea for about a week with it.

Hey all, I've a question on how it could be made that a script .vbs or .bat that runs on longon, checks the name of the computer and based on that calls another script. I think this can be done along with the custom start menu .adm file i found on this site ages ago (sorry can't give credit) to map an appropiate start menu to the user. This drive can then be hidden using Hidecalc and with a slight modification to the .adm it creates restrict it to. this means that all shortcuts can be stored on the server without the common problem of users being able to browse the network throught double clicking. I assume some case statements may be made but I've no idea how to piece such a script together. Any help would be greeatly appreciated.

Does anyone know of a tool or a .adm file that will allow me to hide and/or restrict all letters of the alphabet. I have a nvanilla 2k3 server r2 and as such can only hide A,B,C,D in some very awkward combinations. I'd like to be able to perform this with any drive letter.

How do I set up Outlook 2007 to download mail from my WLM account? I know there is an automatic setting but my main laptop at home doesn't have internet and I need to configure it manually, mainly so I know how to do it as I'm starting out with outlook and want to know what needs to be put in for the various settings like SMTP server and what not. Any help is greatly appreciated.

You can enforce a wallpaper using GP that will prevent the Set As Desktop Background from working User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Desktop>Active Desktop In the Active Desktop Wallpaper fill in a local or UNC link to a wallpaper you want to enforce and select its composition. Ensure the users have read access to the wallpaper.

I agree with it not being ready for any deployment in either the education or corporate environment. You do need high speed hardware to get anything out of it. My desktop is a Sempron 3300+, 1GB RAM - that alone kills it, so how can it be expected to be adopted this early when my machine surpasses many in schools, simply because the finance isn't there for them to install it. Right now, it's only of real use in a home environment - I love Aero and the whole fading of default buttons and what not, they make the computer more visually stimulating and easier to use imo. Ease of Access Centre for one is a major improvment on XP's accessibility options with all options collated together. I'm not bowled over my The Network and Sharing Center, but the Network Map visual is a fantastic edition, however its mostly suited to home users along with the majority of the OS. Although off topic can I please ask that users stop constantly banging on about Vista's faults. This question started about a user wanting to know when XP will no longer be available and there's now about 3 pages worth of senseless Vista bashing about some of the most minor changes. Surely there are free skinnig asolutions available to make it look like XP if that's what you really want. Also the main problems in this post are UAC and Aero, well turn them off, your not being forced to use these settings, their just a safe default.

I got a great wee Compaq lappy. With Vista Home Premium - runs beautifully - I;m like, the only person who likes Vista. AMD Turion x64x2 1.9Ghz - 4.7 2GB Memory - 5.5 Graphics for Aero - 3.3 Graphics for Gaming 3.0 160GB Hard Drive - 4.9 Good scores for £500.

Vista doesn't run faster with Aero, thats an illusion. When its disabled and you open a folder it takes a second or two to fill with the contents, have Aero on and windows take bout a second to open with the fading and what not so by the time it opens, the content has aswell as the job has been split between processor and gpu. And it looks gorgeous, macs look really childish in terms of graphics to me (all bouncy), Aero looks more professional imo. File copying is unforgivabely slow but hey its new, it'll be fixed up in time. I do agree with the Network controls though, constantly forgetting to turn on Network Discovery, as bad as UAC in my opinion. I'm getting a Compaq laptop for Christmas and can't wait to give it a proper going over. I;m one fo the few never to have a driver error, bsod or anyfin really, I;ve been lucky

Right, my home machine has died on me, think its the motherboard but not sure, so heres what I know. Clock wasn't keeping time so I Decided a new CMOS batteery was in order, got one a few days later (Thursday) went to turn on PC and got a 2 second beep befiore anything appears on screen. turned out that it was no longer accepting my 2x 512mb memory sticks, however it will take either stick on its own, in either of the three slots I have. After turning on with the single stick installed, I still get CMOS checksum error - I assumed that would have left with the new battery Can boot into safe mode with success, but normal boot results in a BSOD stating PAGE FAULT IN NON PAGED AREA - same happens when I try to install a fresh copy of XP, just before the first screen

I must say I am rather attracted to the Staffordshire course, not just because it dabbles in a bit of everything, including an entrepenerual element which wouldb ecomplimented with my GCSE in Business Studies (B) - that would help at least a little. Right now I'm re-writing my UCAS Personal Statement which I've been told that I should write in all I can do on Server so I'm putting in User management in AD, Group Policy, User Profiles and such. As for the maths in the courses, the only part I couldn't grasp was algebra - that a concern? As for the Software Engineering course that requires BB, I'm only doing 2 A Levels so it will require alot of work for me, and if I don't get the required grades, and I want to continue with that course, the foundatioin version is available at Belfast Metropolitan College, which would let me get to it aswell.

I've decided that I'd like to take an image of my sisters laptop for convenice and such. I have both Ghost and Acronis at home but have never used the Imaging part of the suite (only Disk Director) and was wondering if someone could outline some steps to create and image. Her hard drive is 80GB in size and as such I'd like the image to be recoverable from a external hard disk The current drive partitions are set like this: C: Windows XP D: Documents E: Windows Vista Any help would be greatly appreciated

Was this setting in effect befiore the laptops were issued for use? This is weird but on the server here we never explicity disabled offline files and then someone right clicked on a folder and selected "make available offline" and despite applying group policy thereafter to stop it, it still does it regardless - this then affects everyone who logs on to the machine tohugh it never bothers any of the others. Who uses this laptop? Hope thats all clear

Have you disabled Offiline Files on the share itself? In Server 2003 right click the folder and click Share, on this tab there's a button called Cache (or similar) click on it then change the setting to Files or folders will not be available offline, first thing I do on a new share to prevent this

Pretty sure this is affecting the Vista partition, if you install Vista from outside Windows it makes itself C: in Computer, regardless what else is going on, everything else just moves down a letter. As mentioned causes no bother.

The software for it doesnt matter as I will be using Media Centre for watching programmes etc, getting rid of the old portable TV lol Also if anyone wants to give me their opinions from past experiences using Media Centre on Vista then please feel free to comment, I'm completely new to this setup, so any information is good.

If you could put up a copy I'd be forever grateful, sick of having to re-order it on each machine. Though I have seen on my Vista box that as soon as you add anything to the start menu, it organises it by name. If that is a registry setting then that could probably be applied to great effect in this scenario.
