I know for a fact that I had to allow SMTP and some other application rule which I can't remember before mail started flowing on apple devices.. That was with a Fortigate.

Perhaps its a firewall that has some sort of application rule that applies to Exchange on Apple .... Just a thought.

Yes this is how I fixed it ! I found this on a website ages ago but that website doesn't seem to exist anymore So your IPhone is not getting Exchange email after setting up your account and it verifying the account during the setup? The ‘Cannot Get Mail. The connection to the server failed’ error may be the cause of a simple mis-configuration in the Microsoft Active Directory services for that user. To see if it is this issue you will need to open the Active Directory Users and Computers, Select the VIEW menu from the top and click on “Advanced Features”. Now open the properties on the user having the issue and select the “Security” tab. Under this tab will be windows with user accounts listed and a “Advanced button” at the bottom. Select this button and find the check box “Include Inheritable permissions from this object’s parent” . If this is the problem you will find the box “unchecked”. Just check the box and try again. You should see mail start to flow.

I have found the HKEY Current USER openwithlist... but I rather want to apply on computer startup.. is there a PC specific key for this? or just have to apply to each user on login?

That's it!! Now I just need to figure out how to change the file assosiations from VLC to Media player via group policy.. Otherwise it's a lengthly process of logging into every single pc and changing it!

Does anybody know how I can hack the registry to stop video links from downloading to a temporary folder before playing? It takes minutes sometimes to download a 5 gig HD video from a link on my SharePoint Site? Firefox just opens it up in the PC default Video player no fuss... why can't Internet Explorer do the same? Anybody know a workaround (without ditching IE) IE unfortunately cannot be ditched due to compatibility issues with SharePoint , and some other of our internal systems. thanks

Hi I have added the office 2010 admin templates to my domain policy definitions folder. They appear in group policy admin templates... my question is why is it when I make any settings to the office 2010 template (disable proofing, right click) why do these settings do diddly squat?? Nothing happens, no settings are changed for the user...?! I looked in gpo results and it says my office settings were applied to the user... but still nothing.. spell checker still underlines the words .. none of the settings worked? why is this? The policy settings are visible in gpo editor.. Anybody else had problems with this?

Make sure you don't decide to use roaming profiles or you'll find with redirected startmenus that you cant click on any icons, they just do nothing. to fix that I had to write a script to delete the cookies folder in the users local roaming app data microsoft windows folder on logoff. Then had to apply a GPO that prevents cookies folder from being part of the roaming profile...was a real headache actually.. Why the cookies folder had anything to do with the windows 7 start menu I have no idea.. but it did..

It all makes sense now after going through it in my head. the printer script used a text file list: with *ICT to map the missing printers to any computer with the name ICT in the computer name. this script was run on standard users login . The reason that I was logging in without issues before I took the PC off the domain was that it had a computer name: HP.. so the list wouldn't have picked it up on the user login. That explains why when I logged in as an administrator it wouldn't hang because the administrator does not run the printer script at login..... yes I think I'm there.... well proof will be when I check my theory tomorrow. I think I should named inspector MaXIM Holmes thanks for the posts..

I think I might have found the culprit. I was RD'ing in and discovered an old printer script that references printers that no longer exist. This would mean it would never complete and might cause a hang. Still doesn't really explain why it was working until i removed and readded the PC to the domain.. but hey.. Will see if it has helped tomorrow. thanks

Has anybody experienced this before, I haven't: I created a fresh windows 7 64bit image of a PC and placed it in its nested OU as normal. Tested logging in as roaming users, fine no problems. took it off the domain (Took an image) and then re added it to the domain once image was completed. Put it back in its nested OU. now when I log in as the same users (Any user infact) log in times exceed 80 seconds!!!! Checked Event VWR and its clean across the board except for the event saying login shell took over 80 seconds... After updating drivers etc still nothing... So then I move the computer outside the OU and put it in the default computers OU. Login times are back to normal! What I don't understand is what would make it change so drastically? It's the same freaking computer... I tried then re adding it to my nested OU and wham login times exceed 80 seconds again... Wondered if anybody might have an idea of what is going on? Thanks

Hi I wondered if anybody knows the answer to this. I have just purchased a CLP licence for 250 computers with Adobe Premium. What happens when my CLP membership runs out in 2013? Does that mean I have to pay over 6K again?! I didn't think that I had to buy the software again... I thought that I had bought the licence to the software and that our school owns it unless we choose to upgrade to the newer version? would appreciate if anybody knows the answer to this. thanks

I use loop back in merge which seems to work. i have an ou for my windows 7 computers with the W7 GPO in there which does the loopback (to apply themes and a couple of other diff settings). The WMI idea sounds interesting, haven't tried that before but I have read about it so I might look into it, thanks.

Ok, I've managed to solve my problem. After tweaking in Sophos Enterprise I found some options to ignore scanning *.ntuser and remote scanning files. I applied this to the windows 7 machines and now they are doing 24 second logins on cold boot which is fine by me considering they are in a mixed XP environment with loopback policies etc. Hope this might help others with the similar issues.

Ok well I've made some progress after a whole morning tweaking. I now know it's Sophos Anti Virus that is the cause but I'm not sure what I can do to fix it though because I need to have sophos installed on all the clients.

Hi, I'm having a problem on my 2003 based domain. I have both XP and W7 computers working together. Up until about a week ago the windows 7 PC's were logging in at about 20 seconds which was perfectly acceptable. But now logging in is taking 30 - 40 seconds.. I can't seem to figure out why as nothing has changed really. Users have roaming profiles and application data redirection. I tried removing the users profile and app data but doesn't seem to make any difference. It will recreate the profile and then logging in is still at about 30 - 40 seconds. I have cached profiles enabled as I assumed that would speed things up... like I said before a week ago it was just fine.. It's not anything with the solid colour on the desktop because I use a jpeg background. I'm running out of ideas really, not sure what it could be. Just to say I'm all for moving from XP to Windows 7 but sometimes I wish Windows 7 would at least tease you with a desktop while logging in like XP did.. At least it showed something was happening instead of staring at a welcome screen. I also checked the eventvwr and its clean across the board.. Any help would be appreciated greatly

It's normally the app data that is causing this. but yes you could try installing IE9 (If you have vista /win 7)

back up users app data folder to a usb or something and then try removing the app data folder or the folder within app data that specifies internet explorer settings

SetACL.exe -on "C:\my dir" -ot file -actn ace -ace "n:domain1\user1;p:change" I've got some real life examples I used in my previous job but I need to find them. I will post them when I do.

SetACL is a tool I have used in the past to set permissions using a batch file script. works a treat.

Just remember to specify force overwrite in the copy command during the startup or your computer might just sit there waiting for the command to say yes i wish to overwrite.. and it will sit there for as long as GPO timeout says.

Regsvr32 - Register a DLL See link above I guess you could do a script that copies the new dll overwriting the old one and then using regsvr32 register the dll. a batch file should work on computer startup.
