LOL Isn't that largely the point of Forums though? People start a forum where like-minded people can meet and chat about mutual interests but it usually attracts novices looking for experienced people. Experienced people tend to steer clear of new forums so what ends up happening is a polarisation of people - experienced people on old established forums (often hidden behind subscriptions) and inexperienced people on the newer/free ones that muddle along by themselves. That is why I tend to lurk for ages before registering with a forum. If you can't see the posts without registering then steer clear. You should be able to browse some (if not all) of the forums as a guest to get a good idea of whether it will be helpful or not.

Yes. The Smoothwall software for Software-only and Appliances is largely the same and you can use any Smoothwall archive in any Smoothwall product. There are caveats such as the MAC addresses in the Ethernet settings (although I'm told this no longer applies following a recent update) and if you have settings for a module that doesn't exist/isn't installed in the new product then obviously these won't transfer correctly but those are pretty standard things. Guardian settings, directory settings (sans passwords), groups etc will all transfer quite happily across our entire product range.

In reply to your original question, you shouldn't have any trouble at all. You can create a settings archive from your UTM-1000 and restore it into the S8 - it's the same software just different hardware. I'd make sure not to keep or transfer the 'Ethernet' settings though as these are MAC specific. Passwords aren't transferred for things like directory servers too so you'll just need to pop that into the settings. The directory settings themselves and the groups will transfer just fine.

I've just seen the latest Season Finale and WOAH it was pretty intense. Lots of fast paced stuff and some excellent Louis moments (surprisingly). The ending was moderately unexpected but since it's been renewed for at least 16 more episodes I expect they'll find some way to get around the twist they put in at the end. Gripping stuff. You have to bear in mind that the US school districts work very differently to the UK. In many cases you have 1 or 2 technicians working a very high number of schools (around 20 or so if I remember correctly - don't quote me on that) with the day-to-day stuff done by less qualified staff. Over here we have 2 or 3 techs per school or per 3 or 4 schools.

I'm inclined to agree. Showing respect for a young mum is one thing but histrionics and outpourings of sorrow over a woman you didn't know smacks of attention seeking. Offering condolences and good wishes to her family is perfectly acceptable, wailing like you lost your sister is something else entirely. Just because she was in the media limelight doesn't make her any different to the hundreds of young mums that die every day from terminal illnesses, sudden death or accident. Yes it's sad, but no need to go over the top about it. I don't think jokes about a dead person are ever appropriate really. Perhaps there is something wrong with me, My sense of empathy is skewed or something but actually I have far less empathy for tragedies in my own species than I do for feline related issues. I cried for days over that poor kitten that demonic woman microwaved and I felt very sad about the Tiger whose cub drowned, yet stories of people I don't know dying really don't bother me. I really don't care.

'Build quality' or 'teh pretteh shineh'? IME Apple components are not top notch and are overpriced for what you're getting. Graphics cards are a perfect case in point and are the easiest to compare. If you build a basket of components on somewhere like Scan or Overclockers or even Ebuyer that matches the overpriced 'upgrade' options on an Apple machine you'll find that price wise you're not getting good value for money. But they LOOK nice. That's the important thing right?

Yeah my favourite handbag is nicknamed 'The Tardis bag' in our house as I have everything bar the kitchen sink in there - charging cables, screwdrivers, sewing kits, random stationary, spoons (a lot of spoons somehow), the occasional fork, assorted small gadgets etc. LeBoyfriend claims things bite him when he puts his hand in - I tell him not to antagonise Frederick. He bought me a 'Cambridge Satchel Company' Satchel in an effort to make me streamline what I carry - he's only been partially successful. I'll use the satchel until I get annoyed with not having stuff then I'll go back to the Tardis bag until it gets too heavy and hurts my shoulder whereupon I'll switch back to the Satchel. LOL Edited to add: I'm currently at the 'about to switch back to the Tardis' phase.

You know, I had no idea she was even married let alone a Mother of two. Will be interesting to find out how she died. Her Twitter feed isn't exactly filled with suicidal thoughts - it looks like the Twitter feed of every other young mum in my friends list 'Oh look, the kids doing stuff' - looks perfectly normal. We'll probably find out it was some sort of undiagnosed heart condition or blood clot or something. It would certainly be easier on her family than if there was foul play or drugs involved.

NTLM is a tricksy thing and the whole handshake thing is complicated to get your head around. It's probably easier to explain it in text than it is verbally because you can lay it out logically. Either way, bottom line is that if you are using NTLM and seeing 407 entries in the logs, this is normal. You will have to bypass auth for some things - this is an inevitable result of using NTLM but most often the ease of use outweighs the hassle.

This was the feature to which I was referring - I have a feeling (unconfirmed) that Firefox might be able to do this without a reboot - Under the Advanced settings in the Certificates tab you can play about with the validation rules. Depends on whether this is broken by your GP or not.

When using NTLM there are 3 stages to the request/handshake and each of these is shown in the logs. When the client makes a request to the Smoothwall for a site (the first 407) the Smoothwall says 'I need authentication', so the client responds with Authentication details (the second 407) then the Smoothwall authenticates via the directory and the request becomes authenticated. So in any request you'll see a URL appear 3 times - twice as 407, once as 200. Authen::NTLM::HTTP - search.cpan.org If the site, client machine or software the client is using doesn't support providing the Smoothwall with Authentication credentials, then the Smoothwall receives nothing from the client machine that it can check via the AD. This is not a 'Smoothwall issue' per se but a limitation of the choice of NTLM. It is a known limitation - not everything supports this. The Smoothwall can only authenticate if the client is providing creds. In these instances you have to bypass authentication for those domains. Kerberos is generally pretty good and supported by most things EXCEPT java. Which is a pain. There isn't really anything we can do if a client isn't sending the Smoothwall anything to take to the AD. This is likely why our engineer recommended an alternative authentication method. This is a limitation of the Authentication type, not the Smoothwall.

Isn't this just a browser issue? Usually if a certificate is untrusted you can select to go through anyway. Is there a command line alternative?
