Hi all, The network I inherited (when we were connected to the PSN) is now organised from the right AD/GPO mess. I still however have the DNS suffix of internal.schoolname.county.sch.uk - I'd quite like to change this to schoolname.internal. I'm full 2012R2 in terms of domain level and have just (properly) retired Exchange 2013 in favor of Office365 (where we use a UPN of @schoolname.com), has anyone got any real world experience of doing this? I do have a CA in the domain that issues certificates for DirectAccess and other internal only stuff... I assume the CA will need some reconfiguring and the computers will want new certificates? Thanks

I have to agree with Mark I'm afraid, their technical knowledge was low and the software was pretty ugly - text size too big so couldn't view prices for meals is one thing that popped to mind - had to fill the fields in blind. Coupled to the fact it all ran from a single HDD non-branded i3/4GB computer which was installed to be a workstation as well put me off them for good. Totally different setting I know but at a huge primary I'm running ParentPay Classroom Ordering and then some funky excel and php code to get the data the kitchen want (numbers per yeargroup and colour and details of students who have allergies who have ordered). Cost me the grand sum of £500 for PP, £400 for two TVs and a bit of my time.

EXCHANGE: Autodiscover/Outlook Connectivity Issues (STILL)
pow replied to GRitchie's topic in Enterprise Software
You can write the XML file yourself and force Outlook to look at it (PreferLocalXML), I've had to do this while running both Exchange and staged migrating to Office365. -
I use powershell for exporting reports on the command line, and use the Get-Date cmdlet into a variable

Some Users not getting Home Drives and/or proxy settings through GP
pow replied to xunbrokenx's topic in Windows Server 2012
Before I VLANd up I had issues like this where the network was just flooded with broadcast messages from the telephone server. Put them on their own VLAN and the problems went away. -

Flat network? No VLANs? Networked telephones? -
I had this at another school, I took the VGA faceplate off and disconnected all but the RGBHV and grounds and it sorted everything, some laptops don't like extra pins

What's the model?

I've got one of them at one of my schools, sacked the camera off in favor of a Unifi Video Micro so we can record and live stream. Something keeps pinching the eggs so we want to find out what!

I've got a top-of-rack M7100 in the server room which is very good?

Nothing wrong with Netgear ProSafe stuff, got a large 850 pupil school running on that here.

I have a Dell VTRX in a failover cluster with two nodes, works beautifully, set and forget scenario. Got about 14 VMs running across the pair, on the odd occation that one node has gone down, the email notifying me that it has is the only thing I've noticed, machines off loaded onto the other node while the other one repairs itself and then shifts them all back again!

Look at the Unifi Switching range.

Mica is great, she's been absolutely brilliant for me. SoftCat have a high turn over off staff, I hope she stays put for a while

Thank you kindly, will try that this evening

Ahh - and leave the DHCP relaying options alone totally? Using a M7100 as the core and S3300's as dist level switches, all layer 3 switching done at the M7100. Thanks! Used to Cisco/Meraki/HP and never had this trouble!
-
Could someone explain to me how to get DHCP relaying working please? Royally ballsed everything up over half term using this!

Surely you could use HKCU on a user side to edit that. HKCU\Software\SMART Technologies\SMART Ink\OfficeAcetateMode: 0x00000001

My point with this is it is only as secure as the endpoint. If you are happy you're server is secure, whenever you use these secure email services they mainly use HTTPS to deliver the content to the end user, which is no more or less secure than the webmail/exchange server they were delivered to in the first place!

My bad, the classroom 780's were Core2Duos - the 7010's are ivy i3's!

I've got a suite of Core2 Duo Optiplex 7010's at a school that had 250GB HDDs and 2GB RAM in them, think they are 2012 models? I've just given them another stick of 2GB RAM and a 120GB SSD for about £47 a unit and a fresh Windows 7 x64 image and the difference is literally night and day. It's amazing. Staff are convinced that they are brand new.

Yesss!!!!

They can't do it dynamically via group membership!

If only they could sort out VLAN tagging
