Thanks for the replies. We know all about Impero and although it's good, it's far too pricey. We're after opensource software here! AUP Informant would be perfect if anyone has an installer?
-
@fiza, That's the software we want to get hold of, do you have an installer by any chance? I've emailed and messaged Paul Beesley but no reply as of yet. Many Thanks

Hi, Currently, we are looking at potential improvements to our AUP enforcement. We have read a lot about AUP Informant however, there seems to be no viable download for this software. Firstly, does anyone know if there is a download out there? Secondly, does anyone know of any other software that would enforce AUP's by checking a database of signed AUP's against Active Directory users and refusing login if there is no signed AUP for that user? Any info would be much appreciated? Many Thanks

Hi, We currently have a trial version of TASC Insight, a parent portal that links to SIMS and then parents can see exactly what their kids have been upto in school, exam results, attendance and so on. The program uses IIS, and is installed on our SQL server, as that is the most logical place for it. The website has been created, and localll on the LAN it runs fine. My problem is when we are trying to get it set up to work externally. I need to forward port 1590 to the SQL server through our ISA server however I am having trouble setting up the rules? Basically what we want is either to be able to go to http://www.insight.stockport-academy.org, or to browse to the IP, eg http://externalip:1590. I'm guessing this is fairly straight forward, but I'm struggling to get it up and running. Any help would be greatly appreciated. p.s Did I mention this has to be up and running within the next couple of days :-)

Hi, Ok, I know on the wonderful World Wide Web there are a few instance of issues similar to the one I am about to describe, but nothing which has even come close to resolving my issue. When using premiere pro, after a clean install i must add, we have a problem that once we have imported an MP3 track or a VOB, the file conforms and seems to have finished this process, however if we try and preview the audio file, or put it into a sequence, the last 20-30 seconds of the track are muted. Also, and red circle with a white "X" in it appears in the bottom right hand corner of the premiere window, with an error saying "The file is busy, and couldn't be used". I have tried a fair few things with this: The file definitely works with another media player, e.g. Window Media Player, VLC I have created a fresh OS and Install of CS4, same issues encountered Changed project type Used uncompressed AVI codecs Changed sample rates etc They are just a few basics I've tried, the list could be alot longer! What I've found is interesting however. The problem occurs on any machine and on any Operating System. If I import the MP3 or VOB, export it as the same file format and re-import, the file works no problem. If we mess around importing and deleting, playing the file etc, eventually it will work. It seems as if the media is pending forever, and sometimes will never work? I'm extremely frustrated by this, having had no problems with the properly "finished" CS3. Any ideas or solutions would be a Godsend! Thanks

Hi, I'm trying to create a batch file to allow a user to choose, on running this batch file, which piece of software to run from a custom created CD. I've put 7 pieces of software on a CD, and I want to allow them the option of which piece of software to install? I'd also like the batch to run with the autorun, so the user only has to follow simple prompts in the batch file. I've looked around and found the choice command may be how to do this, but I'm struggling to implement this well. Thanks in advance Jonathan Hambleton

Unfortunately, windows magnifier etc is not enough for us, if you look at the specs of supernova, this is basically what we need, but with a better GUI. Supernova is awful in terms of usability.
-
Hi, i work at Fallibroome High School under the CHESHIRE LEA, and we are unfortunately being forced to use supernova for our VI Students. I was wondering if anybody knew of any other VI software which improve our situation? Any help would be grately appreciated. Thanks Jonathan Hambleton ICT Network Technician Fallibroome High School

Hi, due to another shocking piece of RM Software, RM Snapshot, I was recently asked if I could enable the option to change the default printer so that colour printing was available. I went through, enabled the settings tab, made sure printers and faxes was available and then obviously I couldnt right Click to set the default printer. And so... I enabled the windows explorer context menu, thus giving right click in printers and faxes and enabling the user to switch the default printer for RM Snapshots usage. However, and here lies my issue. Now the context menu is enabled, users can right click on the desktop and rename icons, open up text documents etc . . . although not critical to security, this is a nuisance. The question I ask is, is there a combination of policies that allows you to enable changing the default printer, whilst not enabling the context menu. I have tried, under user config in GP, changing the desktop policy so that no-one can add, delete, rename or change but this does not work. I could do with a solution to this issue, anyone helping, your knowledge is much appreciated. Thanks Jonathan

Hi, my problem is fairly simple.... everytime i connect a USB Device to my machine, the computer reboots. It doesn't matter whether its front or rear USB ports, or what device it is, aside from my mouse, which is fine! Within a second of inserting either my USB PEN, printer, or other device, the machine reboots. Can anyone help, or has anyone had the same issue? Thanks in advance Jonathan Hambleton

Hi, i'm in need of some help in relation to creating an stmenu for a school I support. I have experience using stmenu's run from a server, but have never created one. Basically, i'm fine with creating the stmenu, placing it on the server and copying to the client, but how and where do you put the bath file that rus that stmenu, everytime a user logs in, would this be placed in the logon script section of GP? Thanks in advance

Hi, I am, like many others i'm sure, sick and tired of having to walk half way across the site to attend to a student who is attempting to logon to the local computer rather than the domain! To this end, my question is this: Does anybody know of a way to customise the "you've got your username or p/word wrong" dialog box, so that you can create your own error message, preferably adding that you need to CHECK the domain box! Hi, we have a rather annoying problem. Our network drive for pupil resources is sometimes not being mapped when clients log on to machines in a certain room. All the clients run back to the same switch which runs at 1GB connection. Obviously, as the clients eventually get a connection, there isn't a fundamental problem with the link or any batch files or scripts that are running this process. We have come to the some what cloudy conclusion that the problem is being caused by group policy being applied to slowly and thus not mapping certain drives quickly enough during log-on. My question is this: does anybody know of any reason why, on a server 2003 and client XP network, there would be any problem with group policy being applied slowly? This is fast becoming one of the more irritating problems we've ever had here, and any help would be greatly appreciated. Jonathan Hambleton ICT Network Technician Reddish Vale Tech College

You're stupid! Even if you reconnect a new fan, it does not work, and the fan will work on the fan heads 2 or 3, looks as if its a common problem by the posts ive read over the internet where the FCU (fan controller Unit) fails on head 1.

Hi, we have a really annoying problem here, 4 out of our 7 shuttle PC's used for video editing purposes have a problem with the main system fan. Basically, it has stopped working, but if you re-seat everything in the machine, and I mean everything, from processor to memory, battery to hard drive, you can get the fan working for around 2 restarts, and then it falls over again. The machine will still power on and work fine, until it overheats and so switches off under the fail-safes! Now, I was wondering whether there was anybody else out there that has had shuttle X series and had any similar problems, or, has experience in dealing with these problematic little oinks. If you have could you get back to me. Thanks Jonathan Hambleton Network ICT Technician Reddish Vale Tech College

Hi, i recently posted an article regarding group policy, the problem being there are no objects within the policy editors. To try and explain what I mean, if i open AD, select an OU, and create a new GP on that OU and then open the policy editor up, I get the normal window. However, under computer settings "administrative templates" is missing and if I open up any software or windows settings, all i get is "there are no items to show in this view". This has all come after recently upgrading from a Windows NT server to Windows Server 2003 Standed SP1. The admin pack is installed, however when i try to reinstall, I get an error saying "Windows server 2003 administration pack can only be installed on Windows XP pro, XP Pro sp1 or windows server 2003", the later of which I am definetely running, and is a genuine copy aswell. My main questions are: 1. Does the admin pack contain anything to do with the group policy editor, thus possibly being the problem 2. Has anyone seen this problem before when upgrading from NT to 2003, I have done this process in 2 other schools and not had any problems. 3. Help me, I'm desperate!x! Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jonathan Hambleton ICT Network Technician Reddish Vale Tech College

I have indeed but i'm glad you mentioned that because it's reminded me there was an error whilst installing it, which is possibly something is houild look into!

I have, and thats how I got the tab to appear, after then uninstalling gpmc. But even in gpmc, there are no objects, i'm pretty much struggling with this, if anyone even knows of any support or such thing that you can get, or even speak to someone about this, then that would be just as helpful

Hi, i've recently completed an NT to server 2003 upgrade and i'm encountering trouble with Active directory, and in particular, group policy. Initially the problem was that I didn't have the group policy tab in the properties menu, but through luck more than judgement, that has now appeared. However, I cannot see any objects in the group policies I create and administrative templates isn't even there. Just to be clear, by no objects, I mean if I open windows settings under either user or computer config, I see nothing, not one object. Obviously this is a fairly big problem as I desperately need to set my group policies, please help! Thanks Jonathan Hambleton ICT Network Technician Reddish Vale Tech College
