Hey guys, Got a weird issue when I've formatted a machine with XP SP3 and all ok with drivers from the Fujitsu-Siemens support website - apart from the the audio driver. Now when I go to the Fujitsu-Siemens website and enter the serial number, it comes with to download and install the driver (SoundMax). Install it and comes up with error message saying not compatible and doesn't meet hardware requirements. Ok I thought - put the device ID of the driver and found out it's a Realtek 97 AC driver. So went to the Realtek website and download it and install it. It looks like it's going to install and at the end of the installation - it just restarts. Tried to do it in safe mode, finishes off the installation but when going back to normal windows - restarts in a loop upon booting. I haven't a clue what's going on? Anyone experience this or has any other tips? Machine is a Fujitsu-Siemens SCENIC Edition X101 Thanks. Mo

I tested with IE8 and does the same thing, but as I've started within the last month - I see on the DC's, the DNS are pointing to a public address and not the internal private address. I don't know why this is setup in this way as I thought all DNS requests internally would need the internal address so it can resolve name issues appropriately. I think this is why it's not deploying it correctly as it cannot find the correct details if this makes sense. Been told to leave it for now as the previous IT guy who is due to leave at the end of this month going to test. Will wait for his go ahead but it's got to do with something like this surely?

Hello people, I'm having an issue with one of my GPO that I'm trying to deploy across all sites. We use Websense for our Internet filtering, and we have setup different PAC files for different sites so I can monitor sites visited etc based on the PAC files. I've setup a GPO for different sites and I have deployed one site successfully. However, there are a couple of sites that are not deploying successfully. I went to the site and tried the following: - - Checked the logs on the machine to see if there is reasons why it fails - no logs of this failed GPO. - Forced the update from the client machine and restarted to no avail - tried a couple of times of this to no avail. - Deleted the GPO and copy and pasted the working GPO, renamed it and applied it again to the relevant OU - didn't work also with no error logs. Weird thing is that when I log in with a test user - half of the GPO works where the user can't see the connection tab in IE, but doesn't apply the configuration script. Just to confirm I've made sure that on the GPO itself 'Automatically detect settings' is UNCHECKED for all the GPO for all the sites. The site where it works - clients are running Win XP SP3 and IE8, and the other sites that aren't working are running Win 7 Pro SP1 and are on IE9. My thinking is that is something to do with IE9 maybe? I was going to test rolling back to IE8 and testing this? But if this doesn't work - does anyone else have any other suggestions I can perhaps try? Thanks. Mo

I've cleared the cache on one machine and does the same thing as well And lastly from your suggestions - it is for all staff that can't send the emails to this domain. Hiya guys, Need to pick your brains with my limited experience in Exchange. I have a bit of an issue with a couple of email domains where staff are sending them, but they get a bounceback saying the following: - This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: Just to confirm - the emails the staff are sending to are valid as when they send it from their hotmail acounts as a test, it works fine and sends fine. I'm just wondering whether on EMC the e-mail domain needs to be added or something like this to say it's fine to do. I'm guessing EMC doesn't like the e-mail domain and therefore doesn't send the email. Everything else works perfectly well with other email domains staff send to - just a couple of email domains. Is there something I'm missing here? Thanks. Mo

Thanks guys. I've managed to sort out the problem through installing 7 on it. I will have a go with an OEM XP disc once I can dig one out but at least I know it's not hardware related. Thanks. Mo

Sorry to hijack this thread but I'm in the process of suggesting to the powers that be update some of our servers, and therefore was looking at virtualising our servers. At the moment, all our servers are physical apart from one (BlackBerry server). Some of them are quite old, and I thought of pricing up one or two beefy servers, virtualising them such as the mail server, apps server, file server and print server. I will probably leave both DC's as they are. If you were in my case, which servers would you recommend? One of my main future projects is to invest in new kit so any advice would be greatly beneficial as I could bring reasons why to the meeting if this ever happens? Thanks. Mo

Hiya guys, I tried the steps you all recommented. Double checked the HDD in the BIOS and come back successful. Ran a chkdsk /r and comes back with no errors. Tried a different RAM and a OEM XP disc to no avail and does the same thing. It is definitely hardware related but as I changed the RAM, and I'm quite sure the HDD is fine also. What I did notice for a split second though is that when you start the machine up - all the lights at the bottom show up green and healthy as it normally should do. However, at the point where it restarts when it should continue to finish the installation - the hard drive light turns amber for a split second and this is when it restarts. And continues to do so in a loop. So although I'm sure the health of the hard drive is fine, I can't be 100% sure unless someone else can shed some light on this? Or it could be the SATA mode? My next step was to install a Vista on it and see if this will do the installation? If so, then I was going to update the BIOS and maybe see if there is a setting to change the SATA mode and then try XP again? Would you recommend this? Thanks again. Mo

I've echo the comments above - DVD Decrypter for ISO. Format Factory is another good piece of software for CD and DVD as well.

Hiya guys, Tried the above things to no avail. I've seen it before with HP laptops in the device configuration where the SATA mode has to be disabled, so the sysprep can run after we've imaged in the past with Ghost and WDS. However, there isn't a SATA mode in device configuration. Tried looking elsewhere in the other menus for any other possible issue but can't see anything. The only things I can see in the device configuration is the 'HDD translation mode' At the moment it is set to LBA-assisted. To be honest I don't know what this means but thought it might be worth changing to the other setting which is 'Bit-shift' This didn't help as well. Tried restoring defaults on the BIOS to no avail. I know it will be something daft but can't see anything in the device configuration or built in device options that would be worth changing or something? Any other ideas guys? Thanks. Mo

Have you also added the 32-bit drivers assuming that XP clients are running 32-bit? As 2008 is 64-bit server, it will also need 'Additional Drivers' as well. You will have to download the 32-bit drivers for the printers and add them to the server. This will hopefully solve your problem and the clients should install the printers. This is assuming of course the clients are 32-bit?

Hello all, I have a HP Compaq 6715b and when I attempt to perform a clean install on this laptop through their Windows XP CD, it goes through the setup and installs the setup files on the hard drive and what normally should happen is that it restarts and continues to finish the installation. However, at this point it restarts and then continues to do so in a loop so it doesn't carry on finishing the installation. There isn't any warning lights on the laptop to indicate me of a problem. I ran a HDD test through the BIOS and all passes ok. Just wondered if any of you guys had any ideas on this one? Thanks. Mo

Hi, Thanks for both your replies. @sukh - The staff are able to access their emails via OWA on their work laptops and personal laptops no problem, but on their personal machines, they like to use the Outlook client. It's not much of a problem but something I like to make sure it works. Initially, I thought the user was doing something wrong so I tried on my laptop and does the same thing. I'm able to access the OWA but can't configure the Outlook client to connect to the Exchange Server. Is there something I'm missing that needs to be configured on the server to allow this feature? @sukh & James - Also I was thinking the best thing is to export the emails from old staff to a PST file. Is this something easy to use? Sorry for my lack of Exchange knowledge - but only been using it recently and trying to get to grips with it.

Hi Sukh, Yeah OWA is configured and setup and staff. There is an external URL for access outside the network and an internal URL accessing in within the network. Everything else works and setup right since I inherrited the network from the previous IT guy. Any other ideas? I want to bulk the users maybe to a location on network, and I can move this to a local drive or external drive so free's up some space and it is updated then to how I know it. Thanks. Mo.

Hello, Forgive my knowledge as I'm new on here and find this website absolutely fantastic with advice and guidance. I need some advice or help that I'm trying to sort out here. The first thing I wanted to get some advice on is users trying to access their work emails through their own personal computer at home. Now the users go and trying to setup an email account for exchange and then type in their email address and password, but it doesn't allow it and says unable to connect to Exchange Server. My question for this is am I missing a setting on EMC that needs to be configured that will allow requests like this to be authenticated? We are running W2K 2008 standard and all clients are XP SP3. Everything else works fine apart fromt this. Does anyone have any ideas? My last question is on EMC - is there an easy way to archive e-mail from bulks of users? I'm trying to update from old members of staff and wanted to archive them? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Mo.

I don't if you've already done this, but the users/groups who need to print to these printers will have to have the correct permissions set to install the printers.

Yep, I find it annoying. Just a load of crap at times and can't be bothered with it. Checking out twitter to see whats that like and follow people and they follow me instead of the crap that on facebook!
