Ok but what is the legal status of licenses and the like to do the following? will i need to format the hard drive? remove the license sticker ? not sure about this so advise also needed please.

@bossman I have installed windows 7 on a couple of random machines mentioned,i have noticed the graphics card will need to be replaced(these are the slim foxcomm cases), upgrade ram at £40 for 2gb, 2gb is maximum that these can have installed, buy additional cals?. I have installed Windows 7 on machines with 2gb of ram and they are at times frustratingly slow.

My fellow techies please advise. We have to hand roughly 7x XP pro Intel celeron 4A 2400mhz and 25ish XP pro Intel Celeron 4E 2666mhz computers of which have around 256 or 512 mb ram. "We are running Server 2008 R2 with Server 2003 running as a virtual print server". At the time of our install of Server 2008 R2 we were advised that windows xp would not work well with Server 2008 R2. As a result of this we have 20ish stand alone machines with internet access and the above sitting and waiting for its fate. The question is what can we do with these? 1)Scrap them? 2)Sell them? 3)Spend some money and get them upto scratch to use standalone? 4)Keep them and at some point use them as a thin client depending on cost? 5)Donate them( legal issue with licenses i guess and data protection) 6)Join them to our network (possible issues with group policy,please correct me if im wrong about this!) Your views and ideas would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the info guys, still need more!!, we need webdav set up for single user devices and shared devices. This i know will be a pain to sort.

Months have passed and we have connectivity from ipad to server All good and well !!! How would (could) i configure it to let users accessing own area (documents) Using the utility in pages or keynote to transfer files from ipad to a shared area on the server is fine, need to be able to have a user gain access to home drive on Server 2008 R2. Setup in the same way as you would using any other networked windows based machine. Using Active Directory i guess . ??? Any ideas please???

Hi, Small problem but a pain in the, Issue is when users log on and try and access the tinterweb no joy, Problem is site wide but an odd few machines, enable proxy is not checked, it should be as it is through group policy, installed firefox to test entered settings no problem. So is it a problem with internet explorer? The same thing on fresh imaged machines! but not all? Everything is ok as administrator until user logs on then it kicks out setting to enable proxy. Help much appreciated.

Hello, We have an issue with proxy settings, to connect to the webdav on server 2008 R2 i have to disable proxy settings on the Ipad then it works a treat, could this be because of port 80 was used ? port 80 is used for an outside connection, a conflict?

We currently have 47 Ipad 2's and will no doubt get more in the arly part of next year, as a primary school they work well in our environment, only issue is deployment and management soaks up so much time otherwise good for primary schools.

Hi, We have setup webdav on server 2008 R2 all good and well!! basic authentication setup as it is in house only. Issue is the only way i can connect to the webdav is if i turn off proxy settings on the Ipad and make an exception in the network connection settings, has anyone got anyideas? i might of missed something out when setting up webdav.

Thanks for the info, with client side preferences how can i achieve this? no printers are installed on server 2008, all on 2003. 99% of client machines are windows 7 Can anyone point me to some info, maybe someone has the same setup?

Hi, Problem i have at the moment is this: We have Server 2008 r2 ,running hyper-V, server 2003 is installed and printers are installed on server 2003, printers are setup by OU ,how would i set a default printer for each OU? Any idea's please

UPDATE !! Since posting my query about School Pupil Tracker we have been informed that the software developers at pupil tracker were on the case whilst we cogitated. They found that there was a slight difference in the way CMIS and SIMS have written their CTFs in regard to the order of SEN codes. They have installed an upgrade to fix it for us. The SEN data now uploads.

I have just asked and the old data is not relevant, School Pupil Tracker is supposed to save time but manually deleting data is a work around but not the fix. Developers have been informed and they have checked the CTF and reply is that it is no error on School Pupil Trackers side ,likewise Link2ict have also stated it is not a problem with CMIS export. So sort of left in the middle on this one. Followed notes for the export of data and the notes only state sims not cmis ? Company has been contacted to see if any other school has had similar issuess but would not disclose information on this. What to do, what to do?

How about photos on a school provided laptop of a night out in the pub,of which certain photos might offend some people .as technicians we come across some weird or inappropriate material on laptops,it puts that person in a bit of an awkward situation,what procedures should be followed?
