Hiya, I tried this but it doesn't work, in fact it doesn't work for anyone in the school - we're trialing this at the moment so not a major impact but i would like to get a resolution to this pretty soon. Ash.

Hello all, we have office 365 solution and are trying to use the onedrive for business location and sharepoint sites when using office application. We're got an issue at the moment where the signing in to office (using word say for example) is failing and giving the following error: "we are unable to connect right now. please check your network and try again". The username and password is correct. The single sign on to office 365 through browser is fine and we can access the onedrive and sharepoint sites document library in the browser. Just wondering if anyone has had this problem. office 2013 sp1 + all updates on windows 7 64bit station (office 2013 is a 32bit version). Ash.

Hi all, Many thanks for all your replies, I was in a all day meeting so didn't have time to reply today. I was actually also looking at Kingston and sandisk so that may be one avenue for quotes just to compare. Ash.

Hi All, Just wondering which SSDs you use for teaching staff laptops. We usually use the Samsung evo 840 series (120Gb), I'm currently looking for 40 SSD to go into laptops and was thinking of the 850 evo this time around. Thanks, Ash.

Hello all, Can I ask how VeryPC and the like offer warranty i.e. next business day with engineer to fix the problems, do they offer these type of services. I find sending off equipment to be repaired/looked at takes far too long from past experience. I do like the dell solution of NBD warranty and have had positive experience so far with them in regards to warranty. Ash.

Hi Nick, Yes it was domain info that was missing for strange reason on the hapconfig.xml file. I re-did the steps to setup the ad link in the setup and we're back to normal. Thanks, Ash.

Hiya, Do you have the adfs deployed? the batch file we use is as follows: @echo off set var=https://-my.sharepoint.com/personal/ set var2=_/Documents "%programfiles%\Ashby School\cookie365.exe" -s %var%%username%%var2% -quiet -mount z: exit the var1 is the first part of the path and var2 is the last part of the path i.e. if your domain is mydomain.co.uk the it will be _mydomain_co_uk. I think they convert the dot to underscore. You need to make sure that certain urls are in trusted sites and also your URL for ADFS server in the local intranet zone. Ash.

Hello All, I've found a program someone wrote called Cookie365.exe which does similar work to what the script that is stated in this thread. I'm doing a proof of concept at the moment where I am using the program to run after/during logon (there is a GPO) for this. Office365 and surroundings The program takes various parameters and works as command line so you can use to map sharepoint library and also of course the onedrive as well. The usual rule of certain urls needing in trusted sites still applies as this makes it possible for it to map the drive silently. I just created a batch file with various parameters and it does indeed map the drive. The program is optimised for ADFS setups but can work without adfs. Ash.

Hello all, Does anyone know what urls are used for apple ios downloads. Since 8.3 is out, most of our devices are are downloading it which we want to be more in control off. I was thinking of blocking the urls so it doesn't work until we're ready to a) support it and 2) deploy it. Thanks, Ash.

Hiya, We're just using the root\CIMv2 with the following select * from Win32_OperatingSystem where version like "6.3%" (for win 8 onwards) select * from Win32_OperatingSystem where version like "6.1%" (for win 7) so might be okay on this. no mention of the win32_product. Thanks for your quick reply. Ash.

Hiya, When you say w32 class is not recommended, does this apply to detecting OS type and using WMI filter to apply GPOs based on wmi filter? I wonder if we can use the preferences this way. Ash.

Hi All, We're using HAP v10 and we're having issues logging on. It was working fine then all of a sudden stopped logging users in. error we get (the username and password are correct). Either your username or password is incorrect or you do not have permission to access this site. Error in application log. An error occurred in Home Access Plus+ Page: HAP+ Logon Home Access Plus+ Logon username:a-user State: Invalid Any ideas? Thanks, Ash.

Hi, I think the other people have covered all the points very well so i won't go into that. One thing that you may want to do is NOT to reveal how much you got for the project to suppliers. Just get quotes and discuss the options with them etc, if you work to a figure then it may not be best. If speaking to suppliers don't state that i have xxx amount for this project. Golden rule that hasn't let me down. Ash.

Hi, I've heard good things about the sophos UTM as well. May be worth calling them to find out, from what i recall about the concurrent connections (yes this is what i asked them as well) is that it uses the 7 days i.e. how may unique users had browsed through the UTM device in a 7 day period. This is how they explained it to me. They do have the threshold where prices start to be discounted i.e. 1000 users, 1500 users, 2500 users etc. It may be worth talking to a reseller like foursys - they are really good and will provide you with all the info on the sophos UTM etc. Ash.

Thanks, Ash.

Ruckus ZD3050 - Additional APs (or replacements)
spc-rocket replied to Steve21's topic in Wireless Networks
Steve, The 7962 are end of life i think and may not be supported by the latest 9.9 firmware. You may want to check the release notes for the latest firmware just incase you are running on 9.9. Ash. -
Geoff, I agree with your points and they are valid, however I can't understand why the Unifi is not taken seriously by expert reviewers or that so many customers are buying the Ruckus, airohive aruba etc. There must be something that the others cost so much i.e. management, failover, or quicker replacement units. I know your idea of keep a few APs spare but then you are still paying for these, we have a couple of spare ruckus APs here to replacement it immediately should one go down. I'm not so sold on the idea that Unifi ticks all the boxes or ticks boxes with ease. I'm sure for people who have it is really good and its refreshing to see that there are alternatives available that are cheaper. Ash.

I am surprised that you're considering this, you must have reasons I suppose but usually its normal to see SIMS --> some other MIS migrations. Be prepared to know what you let yourself in for when going to sims (I'm not talking about the migration of data). We found that sims.net actually restricted us in many ways and moved to Bromcom MIS about 18 months ago - loads better and better upgrades and support. Ash.

How to find reliable companies for CC4 to Vanilla migration
spc-rocket replied to tj2419's topic in Learning Network Manager
Hi, Ergo computing based in Nottingham are really good and helped us with our migration from CC3 to vanilla and visualization project. Ash. -
Hello All, We're trying to setup direct access on our server and have got a test server setup at the moment with DA running on server 2012 R2. Most of it is working okay but we can't see any client listed in the remote client status section. We know there is the one laptop that we got the DA running on is connected and we can browse shares etc. Just wondering if anyone has come across this. Setup: single NIC behind nat with 443 forwarded to the published da server proper external certificate for the DA (from a public authority) using windows 7 clients with auto enrolment for certificates etc. disabled forced tunnelling. Thanks, Ash.

BYOD -Help - How to do it for free with this set up?
spc-rocket replied to tj2419's topic in Wireless Networks
Hi there, We are doing the same things as your described but advertising the SSID so its easier for staff and students to provision the devices. We have Radius server which works with ruckus zone director to assign dynamic vlans (single BYOD ssid to reduce the no. of ssids) based on user credentials. The credentials are validated by radius to the AD. Its the same username and password that students and staff uses to access the normal school network. The access for internet is handled by captive portal so no need to have pac or wpad files for clients. It works well and makes the whole provision easier. We split it into 5 vlans (there are other vlans for other purposes) for the 4 year groups (Y10-13) and staff. We're a large school so had to plan capacity in terms of IP addressing etc. From a self service provision point of view they have to as a one off put their username and password to connect to the BYOD network and then daily enter username and password for the internet (Captive portal), so the first time it is dual logon (for wifi and 2nd for internet). Hope this helps, Ash. -
Yes its the mounting bit that is the pain especially if your full backups are large i.e. 1.5Tb!, not to mention that you need the 1.5Tb (in our case) spare disk space on repository for a simple, yes bog standard simple restore of one or two 20Kb files! Then issue for these veeam guys is that they have gone with the CBT (change block tracking technology) and this way they can't do the structure on tapes. Ash.
-
Unfortunately veeam does not store the structure of the file in the tape so you can't do direct restore from tape of a particular file. What you have to do is to restore the file to temp repository/folder and then import this into veeam. After this you will be able to restore the file(s) using the structure. This is one of the biggest annoyance with veeam, yes even in a virtualised environment. With Backupexec you used to just restore the file(s) directly from tape without faffing around restore the file, importing etc. Veeam may be great in a lot of ways but when it comes to restoring files from tapes, it certainly is hard work. : Veeam Backup Guide for Hyper-V Ash.

In which you may want to limit the no. of mac addresses per port i.e. only allow a max of two. Configure the violation to shutdown the port etc maybe.

Hi Darren, We have downloaded it and just doing a few things on a small box at the moment and it looks good. There are various features that are included and others are more modular based which you can pay for if you require them. It support regex for web filtering etc among other things. The think i like about it is that its pretty much eveyrthing on one system i.e. firewall, ids, webfilter, web server publishing, vpn etc. I think you will find a lot of companies will try to unify a lot of these services into one system/appliance. Ash.
