  1. Tim, Have a look at the off-hosted solution if you looking to only filter inbound mails for spam, virus etc. Emailsystems is what we use and it great, there no software to install on the exchange server and its all fairly easy to setup. Ths pricing is pretty good as welll. Ash.
  2. HI Mike, No the studio actually did connect and i could access the database etc and can nagivate to backup the databases etc. There also a query editor as well so you can do the T-SQL in there against a db. Ash.
  3. I had a go at shrinking the database but it didn't work its still the same size. I think its as mike says something to do with the sql embedded version. I'll see if there is a way to backup of the log to reduce the size. Thanks for your help guys. Ash.
  4. apearce, Does SQL Server Management Studio express also support the windows embedded database? Ash.
  5. Thanks for that i'll give it a go. We have on file called SharePoint_Config_303f303d-a54f-4b66-a754-524d8bdd54d8_log.LDF which is taking up 11Gb which is strange as this is the log file. I have tried to do a backup which succeeds but it doesn't appear to shrink the log file. Any ideas? Thanks. Ash.
  6. Hiya, sorry i'm not offering a solution to your problem, but how did you move the embedded sql databse to another location. We are having space issues on the C drive and are looking to relocate the sharepoint stuff to another drive. Any instructions, recommended practice when doing this? TIA, Ash.
  7. Hi Scott, Can you send some screenshots of ias configuration and also errors relating to IAS in event viewer. Ash.
  8. iperf is another utility to test our bandwidth as well. Ash.
  9. Hi, Check out TeraCopy, it will show you the speed its copying and its faster than normal copy of windows as it uses all available bandwidth. Copy your files faster with TeraCopy Ash.
  10. Even if the schools have access to the routers, its hardly an ideal candidate to route the vlans on that router. A Layer 3 is better than a router as this performs the routing at the ASIC (hw) level rather than software which is slower and it definately be slower on 2600 or 2800 series. On cisco you ideally want a 3550, 3560 or 3750 or the higher end of 4500 0r 6500 switches to do this as these are all L3 ready. Ash.
  11. Standard version will be fine for what you want to do. We have 1600 mailboxes and its working fine. Ash.
  12. How are you backing up the server? is it full backup? If you are using veritas then make sure that you have an exchange agent and that in the job properties you specify full. This will truncate the logs when the backup takes place. Ash.
  13. Yep this is the way to do it. Copy the theme with directory marked 1 and then try to change the colours and other bits as you see fit. Ash.
  14. I think you can set policies on the folders so they will do this when items are x amount of days old i think. We used to do this with student's deleted items buit have moved to exchange 2007 so i need to look into this again. You can do this by installing the Mailbox manager which will allow you to set the policy. For exchange 2007 its Managed Records Management Ash.
  15. Hi, You need to have a dedicated vlan for rebuilding etc and then once the station is built it should pick up the iP from the correct vlan. Other than this you need to have 802.1x which will handle all this for you. Ash.
  16. You need to set the switch port to mode on when configuring as the Intel cards will not sent any negotiation packets to form a channel. On cisco switches you can use the channel-protocol command to choose the protocol i.e. pAgp or LACP. You then to set the mode to on rather than active or desirable. Ash.
  17. Hi, Are you using SLA or ALB (adaptive load balancing works with any switch so its worth doing this to compare the speed. Ideally you want the SLA in which the switch load balances the traffic but your switch needs to support this. Ash.
  18. Just a too big of limitation for me, this should have never been developed this way. The idea of dumb APs and controllers are fine and all the tops guys, Aruba, Trapeze, Cisco do these but the APs do have IPs and therefore do not need to connected directly to the controller. I think extricom had designed this incorrectly in my opinion. The wireless system should be able to be installed in most buildings, not the other way around i.e. building should not be designed to make implementing wireless networks easier. Not everyone has the luxury to have all connections terminate at a central location, so its imperative that any system put in place is flexible enough to allow implementation in various scenarios. Ash. Ash.
  19. You see this is another terminology cock up by various vendors in regarding to the tagging mechanism used. It appears that Netgear calls is Link aggregation, this means completely different in cisco as this referes to in cisco as combining two ports to provider a fatter pipe like teaming the two network cards, bonding tow links together. The fact that web gui says port channel, makes me think that it probably is bonding the links and not trunking. I wish the vendors would agree with one set of terminology, it would make likfe so much easier esp. in a mult-vendor scenario. One way to remember is that trunk links carry traffic from multiple vlans. yes the trunks can be aggregated or bonded to provide more bandwidth but this is different to the actual trunk operation. Its primary goal is to provide uplink connections and to carry traffic from multiple vlans by tagging the frames with info about the vlan etc so the reciveing switch knows which vlan this frame is for. Ash.
  20. I agree, you will probably need to have static routes defined in your firewall for all vlans. If you proxy is isa server then let me know and i'll send you some instructions. Ash.
  21. Hi Ozan, The ip-helper command will take the ip address of your dhcp server so it should be same for all your vlan. Make sure that the DG of your server inc. dhcp is set to the IP of the vlan on which your servers are. The you need to have default route on your core to your main router to outside world. So in your case from looking at the config, you need set all your server's DG to 192.168.0.202 with mask of 255.255.252.0 as this is the IP you given you default vlan on which your servers are placed in. Ash.
  22. Hi Ozan, Yes you need to tag all the vlans except the vlan which pro curve uses to function itself (the native vlan in cisco terminology). Also make sure that the vlans created on other switches are also present on the core switch as well even if there are no ports allocated to those vlans. The thing that confuses me is that when you allocate a port to the vlan the same flipping terminology is used "tagged" they should have called this something else because on uplinks the packets do need to be tagged so the recieving switch knows which vlan the packet is for. The recieving switch then strips the vlan info (the tag) and then forwards the frames/packets to the appropriate port on that vlan. I take it the tagging and untagging is the HP equivilent of encapsulation is it? Ash.
  23. Hi there, First you need to have the dhcp scopes defined on your dhcp server for each vlan so they pick up the ip addresses from the correct scope/subnet. Then you need to have a default route on your core switch which will point to the proxy server or your router to outside world. This will take care of the internet access. You need to enable ip routing in order for it to route packets and also need to have the equivilant of ip-helper command on the core so clients in other vlans can obtain ip address from one dhcp server and also from the correct scope!. Your uplinks should be "tagged" (i hate HP's terminology as well) because uplinks carry traffic from multiple vlans so the destination switch will look at it and make decision as to which vlan to send the traffic. The shares part may be the block of netbios traffic so you need to enable this on the core i think. Sorry i'm not much helpful, my expertise is with Cisco stuff. Ash.
  24. Have a look at this guide. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/networks/13961-wireless-802-1x-radius-authentication-using-ias-server.html Ash.
  25. Yes i agree a subnet with 256 or 512 possible ip addresses would be better, rather than a really big subnet. I sometime get confused with HP's terminology as well with the tagged and untagged etc, with cisco its a trunk port which carries traffic from all vlans and native vlan which carries untagged traffic if you like. Ash.
