  1. Check the usual, => Updated drivers on the wireless card => Up to date firmware on the access/point wireless lan controller Ash.
  2. I think if the NetSweeper or which ever filtering system EMBC uses if its compatiable with Shibbeloth then there is a potential for this to happen otherwise its a bit of pain for the the users to login. Ash.
  3. So I take it single sign on is out of the equation? The user, when he/she logs into the network the AD account is not good enough and they have to log into the portal for proper use of web filtering?? Ash.
  4. Is this setting found in the BIOS for the card? I'll get the guys to check this tommorow. Thanks! Ash.
  5. @Diello Glad you got it working. @Rob, That's interesting as we have the 39320A card and did start off badly with lower speed but with the unknown media changer and updated drivers for BE11d as well as the hotfixes it went up but i feel that its still not running as well. We are happy with it as everything is finished within the backup window but if there are ways to improve perf. then that would be good. Can i ask what kinds of problem you has with PV connected to the 39320A card? TIA, Ash.
  6. We got one of these and its working fine. Is it connected to a dedicated scsi card because this improves the performance greatly. So ideally you should have the scsi/sas raid card and then another scsi card purely for connecting to the PV. Are you using backupexec to duplicate the backup onto tape? if so make sure you apply all the hotfixes to the backupexec application as there were some issues that they had with this. Also there is a recommendation of using unknown medium changer under the device manager. Make sure you don't install the dell driver but to leave it as the unknown medium changer. This was the case with Backupexec 11d and it may be an idea to install the backup exec drivers. Let me know how you are getting on. What kind of setup on the disk have you got on the backup server i.e. raid 5, 1, 0 etc? Usually the limiting factor will be the source i.e. the server. HTH, Ash.
  7. Setting up Radius is not that hard and once its done its easy to maintain and make changes. Step-by-step guide for setting up wireless using 802.1x with MS IAS server. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/networks/13961-wireless-802-1x-radius-authentication-using-ias-server.html Ash.
  8. If you have this many APs then i would look at the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller (50 AP version) which will do all the load balancing and channel changing and also signal dropping/backing down etc. Its around £5.5k but well worth it when you have more than 20-25 aps. Ash.
  9. Hi There, When i use the bulk modify to change the display name for the users the following error keeps cropping up. See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.ArgumentException: An XML comment cannot contain '--', and '-' cannot be the last character. at System.Xml.XmlTextWriter.WriteComment(String text) at PasswordControl.frmBulkPasswordControl.applyBulkModifications(List`1& bulkModifyTemplates, Boolean displayResults) at PasswordControl.frmBulkPasswordControl.bttnBulkModify_Click(Object sender, EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Control.OnClick(EventArgs e) at System.Windows.Forms.Button.OnClick(EventArgs e) Any ideas? Ash.
  10. i don't mind hacking this part only, there are people who have completely changed the whole of software to allow putty, etc but i don't want to do any of this just the limit. I might try the serial cable way and see if this allows me to do it. Ash.
  11. Hi there, is it possible to have the new posts link just under the user's avatar section so when the user has successfully logged in he/she can click on this link to take them directly to the new posts rather than clicking on forums to reveale the navbar. Ash.
  12. Hi there, It would be best to have two NICs on the isa, one configured as external and the other as Internal. This makes it a lot easier to configure and also allows for some features that are not available on single homed isa. As for web publishing if you want it on one ip address then you need to configure the publishing rule so it points to the HTTP headers and this is that way isa will make decision on which website to forward the request. The other option is to actulally create different listerners for each of your website but of course this will require an external ip address each. If you are using isa server 2006 then there are lots of authentication methods available and you should not have a problem implementing your requirements. Ash.
  13. So i take it that Big_Dawg's suggestions or workaround doesn't work on 1.04? Ash.
  14. Hi Geoff, Its working and getting the groups in but as i said its only getting the limit of the 1000 user/group objects. Ash.
  15. How can i enbale telnet so i can login to it i can't do it at the moment. We're using the 1.04 firmware, not modified bu the original from Buffalo. TIA, Ash.
  16. Hi, Is this full time? if so then for kent i think the salary is a bit silly, i would have expected more from the i.e. start at around £26-27k. They can't expect to get good highly skilled people for the money they are offering, for this area. Sorry just had to get that one in there. Ash.
  17. Hi there, Does this tool allow existing user accounts' display name to be modified i.e. say that we have Joe Bloggs where Joe is the first name and Bloggs is the lastname (in a first name lastname style), it is now possible to modify so it add or appends the word (student) after the name so it looks like Joe Bloggs (student) including the brackets? I'm not sure if this can be done with admodify but this would ideal for us. TIA, Ash.
  18. Surely if there are issues like this and so many people are having issues, isn't it time to consult the Service Level Agreement docs?. The problem here may be that companies such as Synetrix could have negotiated the SLAs with LA which is silly because it should be with the schools as its the school who are the end customer so to speak. Ash.
  19. IIS 7 will introduce a new version of webdav which will provide more features and control of which directory/part of website to enable webdav on etc. Don't know if the client will need updating. Ash.
  20. Hi guys, We are not getting emails from our LA (LEAMIS team), Leics. we are not even with embc and were receiveing emails from them before the transition took place so it looks like there are issues with this. I tried to call the LA who's got a message on the phone stating that i should contact Synetrix and when i did this they told me that they can't support us because we are not with them!! The LA uses EMBC so it the problem appears to be with them and not us as we have done all the testing we can and can send and recieve emails from various companies/schools etc. Ash.
  21. The installation is peformed by the technicians at school where staff bring in their own PC base unit. The serial number and name of staff is then taken during the installation for audit purposes. We haven't had many requests yet but if the staff are asking for this then we will install it, we don't advertise this "facility". Ash.
  22. From Ms site Open License for Academic and Select License for Academic Work at Home licenses For each copy of Microsoft Office you license, the primary user of the computer on or from which the product is run may also run a second copy from either a laptop or desktop computer that he or she owns or leases. The software may be used only for work-related purposes and only during the term of the agreement (including any renewals). These Work at Home licenses do not apply to students unless the student is also an employee. http://www.microsoft.com/Education/WorkHome.mspx Above refers to USA and canada, Below one is for UK Software for Staff Work at Home Rights Education institutions that have acquired licences through Microsoft Academic Volume Licensing programs may grant their faculty and staff the right to use a second copy of a limited selection of products on either a home or portable computer for work-related purposes. The following is an overview of the Work At Home rights available through each of our academic volume licensing programmes. Buying for Staff and Students - Education - Microsoft UK Ash.
  23. Breaking the agreement in what way, i have read the select licensing information on their site - the education section so it looks okay in my opinion. I'll ring the big MS to confirm it though. Ash.
  24. Hi, Disable the AHCI support on the BIOS, can't remember where it is in BIOS and then try rebuilding the machine. It will work, also its worth installing HSP 28 and trying to build as this has an update to ICH9 for Intel. HTH, Ash.
