OVS-ES "organization-wide" clarification
sparkeh replied to michaelpau's topic in Licensing Questions
I would also advise checking if you need the full bundle. We licence products separately and it works out cheaper. -
Socktober 2015. FREE SOCKS for all entrants. Win an i7 NUC from VeryPC
sparkeh replied to VeryPC's topic in Our Advertisers
My wife wore those to paint the fence. They are mostly brown now. I was not impressed. -
Tried that one above but its running Pro.

Personally, I have not had good experience with offline files but others swear by it. With regards to proxy, I just setup wpad so that when the laptops are in school they auto find and use our wpad proxy settings and when at home use a direct connection.

Yay need new socks. My blue and white VeryPC ones have shrunk dramatically in the wash and they now fit my 2 year old :S -
Mmm kinda what I was thinking. Was asking about OS as Direct Access could be a good friend here. Or VPN would be a good option. We use our Smoothwall's SSL VPN for teachers at home. About to test out Direct Access for even easier access

What OS are you using?

Building an image for Education at the moment. Can't see a reason to go with LTSB to be honest. We get a year to delay things and I think we will lose out on useful additions if we stay static.

Ha! Funnily enough on our walk into work this morning the wife and I were talking about our favourite Simpsons moments. From "Trash of the Titans" this still makes me laugh (no clip)

[closed] bug/error: Site search not working today?

Currently yes. But I went for a server that was easily scalable so sticking extra drives in if required is a doddle. They have generic class logins and get a mapped drive to their class folder with their own folder in there. The pros and cons were discussed at length and we went down that route. We are gradually removing the printers in school and eventually will just have leased MFDs I would always have at least 2 DCs for replication in case something goes wrong. And I would host SIMS separately but that's just me Yeah we have GAFE and am perfectly happy with that Important to note that RAID != backup

We are a primary with about 700 users, 150ish machines and currently: x1 2012R2 Hyper V hosts with x2 2012R2 DC - the host has 120GB SDD to run the VM OS and 2TB for storage. Host is backed up by VEEAM to NAS in another building then mirrored to a NAS in a 3rd building No physical DC, no need now. Physical server running SCCM 2012R2 (though this could be moved to VM host when I have time) Procurve switches, no vlans as yet but considering it for the future Ruckus wireless Smoothwall Desktops are i3, 4GB RAM, 120GB SSD (don't this we really need higher spec than at the moment) Smartboards with Casio projectors This I would currently add/change: 2nd Hyper V host for replicating the VMs Touchscreen rather than the Smartboards/projector combo Fell free to ask any questions

Yup, broken. -
You should be rearming Office before capturing your image. Here is the MS guide on volume activation of Office 2013: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee624357.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396#section4 Its possible that the machines with the new image are all using the same ID.

Sorry if this has been posted before but after banging my head on the desk over getting Win 10 Education to activate via a Server 2012R2 KMS host, I thought I'd just post what to do to help anyone else who probably didn't RTFM like me! Install the following patch to your KMS host: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3058168 Request the following KMS key from VLSC "Windows Srv 2012R2 DataCtr/Std KMS for Windows 10" and install on your KMS host Slaughter a fatted calf in the centre of a pentagram during a waning moon. Seems so simple now I write it down... Oh! And note that for some reason, if you setup a new KMS host on 2012R2 the KMS listening port defaults to port 0! It should be 1688.

Activating Windows 10 Education with Server 2012R2 KMS
sparkeh posted a blog entry in sparkeh's Blog
So, in the hope of helping someone else avoid the head to desk banging that I have gone through to get a Server 2012R2 KMS server to activate Windows 10 Education, I'll tell you what you have to do. Out of interest, which track are people following: continuous or classic?

For Win 8 and above Flash is embedded and updated via Windows Update, with Chrome it updates itself as well. We haven't seen a flash update nag message for a long time I think that the Reader updates are a good thing too, think I'll go down that route myself
-
Just setup a new agreement and we have all the Education versions, Enterprise versions and keys.
-
My site alerts box at the top right is showing +3 alerts to what I actually have (e.g. if I have no alerts then it shows 3, if I have 1 alerts then it shows 4 etc). It happened when I was on the 'What's New?' tab and clicked to mark all read button. If I click on the 'Forum' tab then the alerts are correct but any other tab is +3. This is cross browser as well :S
-
So now a little bit of time has past since the debate about Win 10 version has passed, I was wondering if peoples' attitudes have changed about whether to use Enterprise LTSB or Education? On balance, as you can delay upgrades for 12 months with SCCM, I think I will go with the Education version but welcome comments on that
