We find it much simpler as the admins to just use First initial, surname followed by year of admission, such as 'JBloggs07'. So for our sixth form who started in the year 2000, it's JBloggs00, those who started in 1999, it's jbloggs99, that way each name is unique.

Especially when your contracted by them under BSF as they won our contract as appose to a third party company.
-
All staff are first inital of first name followed by username without the commence year on the end and students the same but with the year on the end.
-
We could, but all internet access goes across the same scope on the proxy and the 'LEA' want all email accounts blocked as under BSF, we are effectivly the LEA, we are no longer 'The schools Network Team', in affect!
-
In sept (under BSF) we are blocking all e-maill access (GMail, Yahoo, MSN and the rest) for all students and staff except the 'LEA email accounts, such as '[email protected]', this will help us track the students better and cut down on cyber bullying etc, however! We did a trial and just blocked MSN (email, not messenger as that is already blocked) and within 2 mins the whole of the senior management team were on the phone, putting complaints to the LEA and going totally off it. So if we cannot even get the backing of the management on this matter, how are we meant to get the teaching and students to do it?!?! We explained to the management the reason behind this and there response was 'everyone has my MSN address, and we cannot be bothered to change it', we suggested them sending a mass email to their address book with there new address, however, still no go. Just for reference, is anyone aware of a way to get the likes of MSN to forward mail onto other email addresses, I feel this could be an option: twisted: Any ideas would be appreciated!

At my place we used to use admission numbers, however given that the scroggs can't remember what there password is from one day to another and even when you reset it to '012346' they ask you to right it down, we stuck to First initial, surname followed by year of admission, such as 'JBloggs07'

A good host which i reccomend is: http://www.freevirtualservers.com/ I have had no problems with them at all and theres a few of us in the LEA that us em.

It does solve a lot of problems working to that motto. Especially if they are irate or angry about something (other than you). If you think about disagreeing, you might as well put your head on the block and wait for the axe... D Ah, I do hope people who read the site don't take this too thread seriously P I can't see how they could, especially women, they never take things seriously or go ovver the top about things.

'And as for you, acrobson, I have looked at the 'newbies' forum and I realise why your style of crass banter is so familiar: You are the same age as my son! So, I will forgive your lack of social skills and the like as you are only a baby' @Witch, i simply have no rely for that. Talk about digging up dirt! Although i wil say, i do generally have a lot of respect for the female species, i am there biggest fan!

Yeah they do, i did the distance learning thing with them, even though i just live a few miles away, but work weird hours (average of 6.30am til 9pm), but they do allow you to call into the centre (at weekends etc) to do on site sessions as well every now and then. All the best.

Anyone had luck with Digital Blue deployment?
acrobson replied to jumpinjamez's topic in Educational Software
We introduced digital blue at my place (Well, not we, the head of IT) and as soon as the management heard about them, they queried if it to do with anythingh relating to 'p0rn', we were shocked, but then we looked at the name again, and...well....we had to laugh! -

Help....Components need Newcastle upon Tyne
acrobson replied to acrobson's topic in How do you do....it?
Thanks for all the help people, we did approach the powers that be with the solutions however they had decided just to take the kid's names and list what they had purchased and deduct it from their cards when the system is back up and running. I have strongly reccomended a replacement machine given the critical importance of the system and that they use a company that isn't in Scotland, backups their electronic cash registers over a 56k modem and takes a week to respond to a high priority call! In the four years in which i have worked there it was the first time i had met that machine or even new it existed! This one has to go in the record books! Thanks again peeps.... -
