  1. Not sure if this is the right place, mods please feel to move this. I've stumbled upon a couple of videos made by our students in lessons. One was taken during the last week of their school career last year and puts us in a less than perfect light. Problem is, I don't know if any of the kids are still here in our sixth form, and can't identify any teachers. Given that the footage was taken on a camera, which though was maybe not hidden, was "covert", is there any way I can get the video taken down? I can't ask anyone pictured to flag it as I don't know who they are or even if they are still here. In the past I've used Copyright Infringement to take down Facebook Accounts, but I don't know if I can get away with this here. Any advice?
  2. Thanks Steven. That's worth a thought, but then it's probably more actions required than opening the tray and putting paper in. Or it still requires me to recognise every time a new member of staff has been appointed and run the report again. It's a workaround, but it isn't ideal.
  3. Hi, I have been asked to produce a report with staff photos, staff code, name and department. I have done this, but have hit a snag which means it's in a format which is totally unsuitable for SMT. Over the years our staff photos have been imported into SIMS in a variety of different sizes, therefore if I run a standard Word list report, I get one photo per page for some staff, for other staff only a passport sized photo. I have tried to create the report in one of the ready-made templates - the address labels one. I have managed to get it into a format which will pass, but when printing the report insists on printing to the multi-purpose tray. Unfortunately, if pressing print will not cause the report to print, it'll be rejected- I can't expect them to load the tray with paper and then press print. I have attempted a mailmerge report, but that can't handle the photo, and an RTF report is giving an out of memory error which I assume comes from the size of some of the photos. This is leaving me having to produce the report manually, copying and pasting staff photos into a document. I'll also have to keep this up-to date with staff changes. We're the third largest secondary school in the country and hold training school status - I can't allow myself to have this job. Has anyone got a report template I could use or some advice they could give me? Helping me make the labels report print to the paper drawer would be fine, but I can't see a setting anywhere. Anyone? Thanks,
  4. We may be able to use 3G or WiFi, possibly.
  5. Now then, We're having a block rebuilt. It's the PE block. We'll not be able to give them a network connection for a few months. We can give them a laptop, though. What we're looking for is a means to take registers offline with Lesson Monitor and maybe sync the laptop with the main database at the end of the day. Any ideas? Cheers
  6. Magic, thanks. I should have known that, shouldn't I!
  7. Hi, has anybody had any success in getting this column to populate? Here is is empty, even though everything seems to be timetabled correctly. Where does it get its data from? It would be very, very useful for us to have this for analysis purposes.

Not necessarily, but EastCoast will sell tickets for any journey and have no booking fee. If you collect Tesco Clubcard points, you can swap the vouchers for twice their value on redspottedhanky. Got a return from Grimsby to London for the Marathon paying just £6 that way the other week. Normally it's about eighty quid.
  9. You can bring assessment data into Profiles from Assessment Manager, but I don't believe that it is possible the other way around. You will need to ask staff to input grades in AM and then link the results automatically in Profiles.
  10. Ignore me. I've found it!
  11. I've been asked if it is possible to run/design a report which shows how much cover each member have staff has done this year/week/today. It is the information that is displayed when in the cover module on .net. I can export the data for an individual member of staff, but we'd like to compare all staff as a whole. I can't find any way to design a report using the usual method (Reports - Design Report). Has anyone ever done anything like this? What's the best way of going about it?

Not sure about that m25. If it's a through ticket then it's usually valid via Underground for the connection, but not to alight/rejoin at intermediate stops. However, if this is the case, the ticket will be printed with a + next to the destination. However, I seem to recall Farringdon being an odd case, because it's not a London Terminal. If thetrainline has suggested that as a reasonable route, then it should be a through ticket and valid for the short underground stretch.
  13. We've pulled the plug on the idea. There were just too many opportunities for human error in the procedure for getting the exam details linked to the pupils, creating groups and sending the messages. An automated system would be brilliant...
  14. Yes, that's kind of where we are with them. Until our NM threatened to dump them and go to Schoolcomms. KKS assured us that it works fine and promptly sent me a report definition. Which looked fine until I tried to get the actual data I need, when I discoved it doesn't work. Problem is, by then I'd made a promise to SMT...
  15. Does anybody have any ideas how to get exam information in a machine-readable format? We'd like to send text messages to parents using Keep Kids Safe. For each Exam, I need a list of he candidates and their admission numbers. Ideally with the exam date and time as well, but I can live without that. Using Exams Organiser's a no-go because I can't get their adnos out, and the CSV/TXT format exports appear exactly as printed, ie with blank space all over the shop wih regard to form over function. I have tried pulling the data out using a report in SIMS, but I only appear to get exams that students have already sat, and not exams that they are sitting. Has anyone ever done anything like this before?
  16. Thanks. I think that would be ideal if we had Blackberries across te site, but SMT use iPhones so that's the only thing that we'll be able to pay to support. Nothing free, I suppose?
  17. We allow our staff to access our exchange server remotely using smartphones in oder to read their e-mail. We have found that iPhones and Androids are generally able to connect without difficulty using their native applications (although Androids don't seem to be able to connect using K9). It forces the user to set a passcode to do this if they haven't already. However, a colleague has come to us with a Blackberry, and we cannot, for the life of us, get it to connect. Has anyone managed to connect a BB to exchange in this fashion using native apps, or is ther something that we need to download in order to get it to work. I'd have thought that Blackberries were the perfect candidate for this sort of thing.
  18. I thought about that, but no knowing how many fields will be needed makes that a bit awkward, and I'm not sure whether I want all teachers to see the data.
  19. Sorry about the vagueness of the quesion, I'm trying to see if SIMS can do something for me. If not, I'll have to look at something else. Our sixth form will be having tutorial sessions next year. As part of this, tutors will need to keep notes of discussions relating to progress, problems etc that are happening generally in all subjects for a student. We would like the tutors to be able to type notes about the discussions that they have had with the students which can be seen by our Director of Sixth Form. DoSF and Tutors need then to be able to make a note of any interventions that have been made. Consequently, for each student there will be an unspecified number of different comments, ideally date-stamped, from a number of different people. Is there anything within the normal setup of SIMS .net that can do this? Or do I need to look at producing a bespoke solution in Access?
  20. It's the former. Thanks Vik. I'll have a look...
  21. The tags come through unpopulated, vik. I'm trying to reuse my old individual reports (which I've spent five years meticulously fine-tuning, enhancing and improving) but I'm basically just trying to open the old reports as they are currently on a PC with only 2010 installed. I've not yet had the inclination to faff around experimenting (because I'm lazy and I've got a virtual machine) I did have to rebuild reports from scratch last year when we took over another academy, but I had the same problem so I've had to build a PC with Office 2003.
  22. Not a popular message at all Phil, but I *suppose* I can wait until August then do it all again!
  23. Could someone quickly let me know how best to convert my existing templates to Office 2010? I'm currently running all reports and profiles on a VMWare machine with 2003 installed because results fields aren't populated correctly in 2010. I'd really rather use the more up-to-date package, if I may.
  24. Are you a teacher, hadros? It's possible that you won't have the relevant permission to create marksheets or add formula columns if you are. I'm sorry to say that in that circumstance it's bad old "Input it yourself". Incidentally, I'm not a fan of automating anything to do with target setting. It takes it out of the hands of the teachers, who are the people who know the kids and need to know what they're capable of. If you have to input the data yourself, then at least once you've had to take account of where the student is and where they should be. If you haven't, then that bit of the process gets lost.
  25. What number's your change request? I'll vote for that instead of creating my own.
