Thats sort of my thought, as they seem like passive speakers, converted into a single cable! Very odd!

We have what seems to be a crusty old audio system in one of our halls - 6 speakers wired in what I think is series but in two sections, as there is a wire in and out of each. At the amp end only a two core wire emerges (black/red) which goes into the Left channel of the amp. This is working but is buzzy/distorted and I think the amp is broken. It looks like the speakers are wired in two seperate channels which are then merged at a wall point at which the single pair wire emerges: So at the AMP point I have 1 wire (pair black/red) to use! With just one pair of wires though I'm not sure which type of amp is suited for this? Normally you'd have a L/R pair - this is the first set I've seen with the speakers apparently in series!

We updated to 4.4.26 this morning, but the problem was there before.

Yeah I can see why this group is different to any of the others. I might see what google say when their live chat support comes back online!

We run GCDS to synch our AU users and groups with G Suite and it works very well. Recently one group seems to try and synch every time - its only got a couple of users in it, and the synch fails as it can't add the users as they are already there! I've checked all the ldap attributes are set correctly on the group (same as the 100's of other groups we use!) but it tries to add the group and users every time. The error when trying to create the group/add the users is: The message is the same for users but just says 'adding member' instead. We've used this group for some time, but only used GCDS for a couple of months, is there any reason its trying to recreate an existing group every time?

We have a TV license for the school - but they would be exclusively connected via vga/hdmi anyway Does screen burn still happen with LCD/LED screens? I know it used to be an issue with the plasmas in the early days. Probably not a big issue as these would be showing moving images/slideshows etc rather than a single static image.

Yeah the warranty is the main sticking point, but as @Katy has mentioned we would have them on a power off cycle after a period of idle to reduce the number of hours. They would effectively be on standby for 3/4 of the 24 hour period.

Cheers, ours will be mounted too high to fiddle with anyway! I reckon we can get 4 65" screens for half the cost of one of the commercial ones. I know the commercial ones are better suited to airports/hotels etc where they are on 24/7 but ours would be probably equivalent usage to home use, just during the day.

We're looking at putting a few 65-85" displays in various rooms - for use instead of projectors. They are most likely going to only be used 4-6 hours a day. With that in mind, has anyone here used domestic displays for this? I know every supplier will almost insist in commercial ones for heat/features/warranty etc, but when the domestic ones are 1/8th the price I think its worth the risk? They will basically show VGA/HDMI input and don't need anything too fancy so commercial grade displays seem like overkill.

I'm still having issues. Problem seems to be the network isn't ready in time despite all the policy settings set to wait for network.

I'm in two minds here - unauthenticated access is what makes the ipads usable and flexible. Taking that away will annoy the staff and students, but does open up a loophole for tracking safeguarding issues. It might be down to SLT to decided which way this has to go!

It seems that adding authentication back in is the only option. One of the reasons the ipads were popular is that there is no 'login' Also, how do you deal with one kid authenticating on an ipad, which is then used by another? - unless they close the wifi connection it would still be against their login.

I'm sure we're not unique in that we use a good few mobile devices that have unauthenticated access to our smoothwall filter, which puts them into an group which is filtered the same as staff or students (depending on the devices) This is essential to get any of these devices to work properly. However since we started monitoring safeguarding issues through smoothwall I'm now wondering how we (and how would you) deal with a potential safeguarding incident that was linked to one of these devices? For example, if a student used a ipad and spent a concerning amount of time on self harm sites for example, this would be flagged up but you wouldn't be able to track it down to anything other than an IP address. Finding out who used that ipad would be tricky to say the least! This hasn't actually happened yet but I'm curious if anyone has had to deal with this?

Thanks, looks like it might be something else then. I updated the Apple TV to 7.2.2 but it still wasn't visible. I'll double check everything else!

In one of our primaries we have some Apple TV (3rd Gen) with the latest os (V7) on them. However some of the newer ipads (IOS 10) aren't seeing them in Airplay - only the newer 4th Gen ones. They're all on the same wireless network, and definitely in range. I've had a look but I can't seem to find if 3rd gen Apple TVs are supported in IOS10 for airplay mirroring?

I'm not sure as we've used https inspection on gmail along with content mods for years and its only just started failing - it worked a treat allowing access to only our gmail domain. That article also doesn't mention whitelisting the mail.google.com url, which is the one that seems to fix/break it when authentication is applied.

We're on Glamis 3 but don't have the malware license anyway. I could handle it if switching off authentication didn't also break the HTTPS Inspection and Content Mod but this clearly doesn't work. I thought that an authentication exception for our NTLM would put those into Unauthenticated IPs, which are in both the https and content mod categories. Weird how this just started suddenly. We have made no changes to our UTM or GPO's recently to trigger this.

Well I now know its the smoothwall thats causing it! If I disable authentication for mail.google.com it works fine, however the https inspection and content modification also then fail allowing users to login to any gmail account (school policy is to only use provided gmail account!) So I'm stuck with this at the moment, Not sure if its something google or smoothwall have changed.

Well its spreading here now, I'm expecting a growing pile of complaints by the end of the week! Clearing profiles/rebooting the UTM/etc has had no effect. It seems unlikely to be an OS issue as it effects 7/10. We have noticed the users who are having the issue have no issues using their gmail on their phones, but I guess that is a) a seperate app and b) not behind out UTM so it doesn't really prove anything.

No, we don't have Rapport on any PCs here. It happens on both IE and Chrome, both of which are locked down with no addins. Oddly we haven't changed anything recently (like policy settings etc)

All of a sudden we seem to be getting errors when some users are opening Gmail. Some see an error when clicking compose, others see 'Loading...' for a minute of so before the followng error text appears: Error Some features have failed to load. If this problem persists, try reloading the page or using the basic HTML version. Now the odd thing is this happens on Chrome and IE, on W7 and W10 and doesn't follow any pattern. Older or newer PC. We have a dedicated 300Mbps connection through our smoothwall UTM and aren't having any performance issues so I'm doubting connectivity issues. This has affected both staff and student accounts but only a handful so far. I've run through the usual google recommendations (cleared cookies, cleared sign on cookies, disabled all labs (not that they use any), and even deleted profiles) but the problem persists. Anyone else seen this errors start to pop up recently?

I've had this before and it can be very much down to classroom management. Here they turn up to the lesson, decide to get the laptops out (all new W10 i5 ssd ones) and by the time they're out the trolley, powered up and logged in at least 10 minutes of the lesson have gone. At the end of the lesson they shutdown as the bell goes and basically throw them back in the trolley without even checking they have shut down. Compare this to another school I visit, and they have quite old netbooks so as the students come into the class the netbooks are on the desk powering up, logging in does take a few minutes but they are prepared for it. Five minutes before the lesson end they are told to shut them down and return them to the trolley before leaving. So ironically the school with the older slower kit never complain, as they have realised there will always be some management of mobile devices when in a classroom situation. Obviously wireless signal and saturation can be an issue but our school has better wireless than the netbook one and guess who complains!

We have a blanket ban on USB devices for students. Students can store their work in their google drive and should use that, if they *really* have to bring a USB pen in either we or the teaching staff can copy stuff into their work folder for them.

We block .exe unless in an 'approved' folder (i.e we can put things in there!) but allow zip files etc. This is done with SRP or Applocker (W10) and SRP has been the most reliable for us by far. FSRM stops anything being saved in places where it should and its never been an issue

We've just put Virtualbox VM on each IT suite computer with the lot on, MySQL,PHP,Python,VB.net, Netbeans, and probably a dozen other things I've forgotten. They're set to immutable so can't be broken, but they can copy files to and from their work area so they can save projects etc. Seems to work well, and the VM's only take about seconds to start up (W7 running under W7) on SSD based PCs. As they effectively have admin rights on the Vm everything works ok.
