I'm a Learning Technologist (from an IT tech background) which is kind of the same thing. It’s more common in higher education but essentially it’s providing and encouraging knowledge for enhancing learning and teaching with technology. We mainly create digital content, assisting with recording lectures, electronic marking and generally utilising technology to improve the learning experience. For example we are currently producing a range of electronic lectures and example scenarios for placement students to access when off campus. We don't do anything in terms of systems maintenance and admin but provide more specialised support in terms of VLEs and multimedia.

In addition to Tamiya i'll also recommend Dragon, they do very nice tanks. I'm more of a wargamer now but my roots are scale modelling and the principles are the same, i just push my models around a table! Theres a lot of weatehring tutorials on youtube which are fairly decent. It takes a lot of practice to get right so don't feel disheartened if it doesn't coem out perfect the first time.

I work on the top floor of the tallest building on Birmingham University Campus. Bit grey out today over the city so these are from earlier in the year

Currently working at a Uni after working 5 years in a 3-18 independant. I found it a lot more gated in terms of what you can and can't do, i never touch stuff i used to do all the time (e.g.group policy) but then also have fare greater reponsibility in other areas. I find the work a lot less stressful. Everyone pretty much wants to be here so no trouble making kids, though data protection and security are a major issue. Pretty much doing 2nd/3rd line support although there is some 1st line in there as well, but mostly due to where we are physically located. Projects get assigned out so the wider Uni ones tend to go to the core teams rather than the colleges but i think thats just how they are structured as colleges get all the local projects. still get idiot users like everywhere but as said before the level of support and teams is much larger (though this can slow stuff down as you may be waiting on others to do things first e.g network team manages points and patching) Theres the other benefits as well such as Uni catering, better tech and generally having money in budgets. Its different but not hugely so

I had a punt on the 64gb, the phone is impressive. The firefly stuff responds really fast. Its just a massive shame you can't unlock it from O2 or side load the google store stuff. The lack of google play apps hurts this phone badly, if i could load them on, it would be a brilliant phone but not being able to already get the apps i've paid for or even the gmail client is terrible and they have really shot themselves with that. Its a Shame as its a really nice phone. i think i'll be returning it or using it as an ipod

don't know the salary they are offering for this role but as current post holder i imagine in the region of 15k -20k

My old Job is now up for applications Highclare School - Achieving Individual Excellence I'm moving on to better things elsewhere, The School is good, kids behave well and the staff friendly. Lots of development and improvements going on and good ICT investment.

Ooo Possibly hadn't considered that. I don't suppose you know of a way to see whats been made private by other users?

We have been having a really strange issue with the school diary in SIMS, we called local support and Capita and neither have heard of this issue before nor can shed any light on it so I just wondered if anyone on here had encountered it. About a week into term last September SIMS lost all diary entries relating to reports (as in end of term assessments). We have print outs showing they were entered and saved but when accessing them later on they had all vanished. Nothing else was missing just all entries relating to school reports. The best explanation we were offered was that someone had manually deleted them. We input the report dates back into SIMS and continued as normal. Around two weeks ago however, we noticed the dates involving reports had all gone again, nothing else, just entries relating to reports. Has anybody else encountered anything like this?

Birmingham games expo on the saturday and a warhammer 40k tournament on the sunday. At least i walked there, that counts for something, right?

we had something similar happen with a batch of NEC 100 projectors. Changed lamps, connectors, everything we could think of. It was ultimately a fault with the projector so had to be returned for repair and replacement. Might be worth contacting the supplier?

my girlfriend has a wildfire, but it might be the standard one. compared to my desire its a bit of poo. its put her off HTC entirely. Not great at picking up signal and occassionaly adds old messages to her current ones. though this may be network issues or unique to her handset. battery life is a fairly standard average smart phone use and lasts about a day. all in all desire just seems better

I've recently been running windows 7 upgrades. I've cleaned up everything i can (adobe, office, old user files etc) leaving just vista and the exam packages which were a complete a pain to install. The upgrade on all the machines i've done so far has gone through fine with the exception of one machine where vista upgraded to win7 but didn't transfer any of the setting or programs across. On closer examination all the temporary files created in the upgrade process seem to be on the c:\ (in various $ folders) just wondering if anyone knew a way to transfer them into the new OS

one school over 3 sites each about 3 miles apart running a vpn over standard home broadband lines with around 500 pupils and 150 staff covering everything from nursery to 6th form 1 dc 2 citrix servers 1 sims server 1 virtual server running on the dc

we don't, its blocked through both goup policy and (i believe) our webfilter mainly blocked due to e-safety reasons and previous issues with kids (and staff) using it in lessons

tolls, don't forget about all the tolls if your travelling on the major roads. Most of the hire companies will offer an automatic toll pass (epass i think its called) which is probably worth taking.

Our teachers are using Citrix to log in from home - and have a problem printing. The problem - applications in citrix only detect the user sessioned printers on the school network, and are not detecting their local printers they have connected at home. We only have 2 applications available through citrix - Word and SIMS - and both are affected. Obviously this is proving to be a little irritating for the teachers concerned. We've dug around in the settings, googled the problem, all to no avail - and they are refusing to accept 'we don't know' as an answer.

there is a brand new pandora store just opened or due to in the next few days on the high street in birmingham city centre (opposite m&s). i'm fairly sure there is also a store that sells them in the bullring on the bottom floor. Good luck

Hi, one of our teachers has been having a strange issue with Powerpoint 07 with Smartboard 10 and Windows Vista. When the smartboard drivers are running, all his powerpoint hotkeys (copy/paste/select all/etc) are disabled. We're running Smartboard v10 (May update) on the PC in question. When the Smartboard stuff is removed from the windows startup, Powerpoint works perfectly, but as soon as the drivers are reenabled, the hotkeys cease to function. Has anyone encountered this before? It only appears to be happening on 1 PC in our school, dozens of others are ok!
