Morning I have obtained the National Residuals from my LA, from my understanding LA's sign up to the NCER in which they gain access to national examination data through various information systems (NEXUS, EPAS etc...). I have asked my LA if i can post it online but if they say no i am sure you could contact your LA's Information Team and get them to email it you. Mark

Cheers DataDB i knew of the JCQ but thanks for the rest. There still doesnt appear to any residuals though Mark

Hi Does anyone know where i can get hold of GCSE 2014 national residuals for each subject? Apparently RAISEOnline use these indicators to work out various calculations but i cannot find the raw data anywhere Cheers Mark

Progress 8 Analysis
mark80 replied to NormalDistribution's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Great stuff! i see you are using the Average KS2 as a baseline for all subjects, is this how it will be measured for English & Maths or is this just the starting point of the Progress 8 expected achievement -
Progress 8 Analysis
mark80 replied to NormalDistribution's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Just looked at SISRA and if everyone of our students hit their targets based on 3/4LoP (non Eng&Math are based on Average KS2), we would be Average Total Attainment 8 51.06 Average Total Attainment 8 (A*=58 Points) 404.07 Average Total Progress 8 0.30 Progress 8 Upper Confidence Interval 0.45 Progress 8 Lower Confidence Interval 0.14 What is worrying though is that even if all our students hit the 3/4 LoP in Maths & English our capped 8 VA is still 982, with confidence intervals of 991 & 974, making us Sig- than the national average! So we have a Sig+ Prog/Att8 and with the same data have a capped 8 Sig- -
Progress 8 Analysis
mark80 replied to NormalDistribution's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
In short we are using SISRA However i have also pointed out the shortfall of everyone hitting their "target" and still potentially getting a -VA. We have done a broad stroke anyone on 5c or less is 3LoP and 5b and above to 4 LoP, with these in SISRA as Targets i can look at the Att8 & Prog8 in more detail. You know as well as i do that students do not fit a formula and trying to be all things to all men is near impossible. LoP, VA, Att8, Prog8, residuals are, in my mind, not to be used as a sole representation of a student but used in conjunction with all available data to paint a picture. Sadly though teachers are now forced to commit to a target for performance related pay purposes and they will be told by their SLT to be accoutable to just one of those measures. These are also easier for OFSTED to anaylse. -
Discount rule for Art & Design GCSE
mark80 replied to DataMan's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
What exam board are they? They do sound to me like they are discounting against each other. Under documents in table checking there is a list of 2014-2016 subjects and discount codes. http://i59.tinypic.com/34813zl.jpg -
Anyone else noticed that those with Distinctions for BTEC Applied & BTEC Application of Science they arent showing in the tables checking

I know a few of you are exam managers as well as data managers so i thought i would just put my findings here and see if there has been similar. The GCSE English results this have dropped nationally but every year we put in EAR2 (review of marking) for those on the edge of the next grade up, with the hope they find an extra few UMS to push them over the next grade boundary. We requested 51 scripts be remarked from across the spectrum of grades and have had all of the back with no difference in marking (positive or negative). We have also submitted EAR2 for Maths and some of these have increased grades, or altered in the raw mark by 1 or 2 points. I know this sounds like i am a conspiracy theorist but how would it be that a subject as subjective as English in its interpretation of marking be so uniform when marked by a different examiner? I know the exam board would say its because of their consistency in marking, but i just find it all a bid odd.

KS5 Data - What is reported on results day?
mark80 replied to CAM's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
^^ Me neither, we run a joint enterprise with another school and getting them on board is proving a nightmare! A little to go on regarding a new "Add back" feature http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/performance/download/Statement_of_Intent_2014.pdf User Guide and resources page for 16-18 Schools/Colleges - The Department for Education -
KS5 Data - What is reported on results day?
mark80 replied to CAM's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
I have done some reading on this and i have found that you are to count the students who have completed Level 3 if they are 16,17, or 18. Would you class those only doing 1 year and sitting their AS level as completing L3? M -
I have been at this school for about 9 months now and 3 months ago we got a new Head who has shaken things up (for the better) in the assessment department. Rather than spill out what we used to do we have gone for a basic approach to assessment recording. My SIMS background is limited but my assessment knowledge is pretty good. The following applies to all Years Target grade set for each year by a combination of 3-4 LoP & staff judgement 4 Collection points a year Each collection point consists of the following, those in bold are teacher inputs YearX [subject Name] Target Grade (Reference only) Current Grade Forecast Grade ATL (Attitude to Learning) BTL (Barriers to Learning) This is what i have done so far 1) Created Grade Sets (GCSE, DMP etc...) 2) Created Result sets (Y7Aut1, Y7Spr1 etc...) 3) Created Aspects for each subject for ATL, BTL, Current Grade and Forecast Grade (near 60 Aspects in total) I intend to import the target grades from spreadsheets directly into SIMS but my question is do i need to create another round of Aspects call [subject name] Target? TIA Mark

KS5 Data - What is reported on results day?
mark80 replied to CAM's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Thanks CAM, just trying to work out who to include is a nightmare as there was no data manager her last year so the data is not in the best of order! -
Hi It has been a while since i had to do an analysis for KS5 data on results day and was hoping for some direction, websites etc.... Am i right in thinking it is the results for the current Year 13? Does it include qualifications they took in Year 12? Do the AS they took in year 12 discount the A2 in Year 13? Do standalone AS quals they took in Year 13 count? Do they work along the same "first entry rule" as GCSE? Mark

KS2 Results Download?
mark80 replied to Scotbynature's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
I see fine marks calculator puts a L6 at a flat 6b. Should this be the case or should it have the 6c & 6a available? I noticed for our current Y7's on FFT that they do differentiate 6c, 6b, 6a. -
I have done the same as @MattMitchell, pulling apart readyreacknors is part of the Data Managers regular diet

Managed move student & exams
mark80 replied to mark80's topic in Data Managers's Data Managers Topics
Thanks -
I have put it here as i know some of you are also exams officers as well We potentially will have a student on a managed move in Y10 who is scheduled to sit a Science exam in June 2014 at his current school (we are a subsiduary school at present). As he is sitting the exam in Y10 this will count for his current school in their performance tables. If however if he then moves to our school permenantly do we inherit his grade from that centre and it count in our perfomance tables? If so would it then be removed from the previous school tables to prevent double counting?

i honestly do not know. You could try ringing the exam board and or the DFE? Do you know the QAN code for the subject?
-
Log in to https://tableschecking.education.gov.uk and download the ks4_pup.csv. This will contain all the quals they counted.
-
Well Annex C in this document solves my 10 students with a U, but doesnt explain the other 3 Linky

So the validated Raise was release a few days ago and i have been in the process of un picking it to apply the principles to our own assessment tracking, but to start with applied it to our GCSE results from 2013. I used thee RAISE manuals and the KS4pup.csv from tables checking website https://tableschecking.education.gov.uk (this shows all of the students qualifications they achieved) I was under the impression that English would count double if a Literature element was also present, however i have found a few anomolies Student 1 Maths = D iGCSE English Language = D (there is no mention of a literature grade on tableschecking) Maths Bonus on RAISE = 34 English Bonus on RAISE = 22 In this respect i expected 0 bonus points and not 22, infact the student in question didnt get a grade in anything that would equate to 22 points! Student 2 Maths = D iGCSE English Language = C English Studies = C Maths Bonus on RAISE = 34 English Bonus on RAISE = 34 Where on earth did they get 34 points from when both English grades are a C (40 points) Student 3 Maths = C iGCSE English Language = B English Studies = D Maths Bonus on RAISE = 40 English Bonus on RAISE = 40 Where on earth did they get 40 points for English bonus (unless they averaged the 2 English grades, but that wouldnt solve Student 2!) I have also noticed that that i have 10 students with the following senario..... All have a pass grade in iGCSE English Language but ALL have a U grade in iGCSE English Literature ALL of these students have a bonus figure for English that matches their grade..... So does this mean that a grade is not needed in English Literature as long as you sit the exam you will get the bonus points?
