On a slight tangent, has anyone managed to work out how to get existing cached users to pick up a modified start menu layout (XML) without having to delete their cached profiles on a W10 PC?

NetSupport DNA - New version 4.5

Through the help of our most excellent Mac support guy, we've got it deploying in a startup script. More to follow. -
NetSupport DNA - New version 4.5

Thanks Al. Probably a poor choice of word "oversight". I've spent a fair bit of time talking to support, our A/C manager and one of the team leaders. The team have been incredibly helpful, flexible and supportive and hope our calm and pragmatic approach to a few significant but extremely rare issues has been the best way forward. That said, DNA is great, we really love the product. I've got a few personal niggles which I've already shared both privately and some on here. I hope you can overcome the Mac DNA deployment reasonably soon and I'm happy to help with testing that. I purchased more licenses with a view to rolling out DNA to the Macs as a matter of need for safeguarding and monitoring. As it stands, that's quite a challenge. I completely understand what and how has happened but if you can prioritise at least a better Mac installation / deployment sooner than other Mac improvements, that would make a significant difference. Thanks :-) -
NetSupport DNA - New version 4.5

Disappointingly, there is NO way of deploying the agent to Macs*. Not even hacking around an XML file inside the package. I have discussed this with NS support and fed back that manually installing the agent on 150 Macs is less than fun or ideal. Hopefully they'll do something for the next version as it is a bit of an oversight in my opinion, although I realise they can't do everything! *That I've found. -
Eclipse Library System moved to hosted and now very slow

Hi Colin, Glad you've taken this on board. However, this has been a problem for us for a long time so it's a shame that MLS are only just now appearing to take this seriously. -

We use NSS too. The Tech Console is so monumentally slow to open (even with the Connectivity Server) that I use DNA to connect to PCs for tech support now. -
Looks good! Will this be reportable too? I guess we need to be careful not to fill up the DB too much, however I can see something along the lines of the following would be useful... User: "My PC is running slow / was running slow this morning at 9:30ish" Us: (*Checks PC utilisation in DNA*) - "Yes, we can see your CPU/RAM is maxed out. We can also see you have 27 applications open too [via the user audit log trail] so perhaps close some stuff before moaning."

NetSupport DNA - New version 4.5
lewisburgess replied to Al_NetSupport's topic in Enterprise Software
Hi, These changes look really good I'm excited about some of the user policy changes coming in, but without a bit of a change to how DNA works, they might be out of reach for us. At the moment, we lay PCs out in DNA very differently to the AD. Office & Teacher's PCs and IT rooms are spread out amongst colleges (like a house system but bigger) so we group them together manually in DNA, meaning we can apply a single policy to each type of group - e.g. all IT rooms, all Offices, all Teaching PCs. It works well and if we laid it out in AD view, it would be very, very cumbersome to manage. Unfortunately, this breaks the user side of things - they get dumped all over the place and DNA doesn't recognise any structure for the users (meaning we can't apply different settings for staff/students/admins). Ideally we'd want to be able to organise users by AD structure and PCs in our own way. I do have a change request for this open with support/devs already, but please, please consider it as part of 4.5 so we can use the new, cool stuff! Thanks. -

We're experiencing the same issues with reports crashing Excel 2013 and 2016. I've got a call open with Capita. I have provided a lot of diagnostics, logs and the database. Still waiting to hear back. As for the Workstation Patch 1 issue constantly reinstalling SIMS, again we had this problem too. Capita (after ignoring my 'Major' call for over 30 hours) emailed me this evening to say Patch 2 has been released. Limited testing but so far, better as far as reinstalling SIMS goes.

YouTube restricted Mode
lewisburgess replied to linkazoid's topic in London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
We're using Smoothwall on an LGfL connection. I've already set up the conditional DNS forwarders and lifted restricted mode in Smoothwall for the staff groups which is working, so they're happy again. However, for students I tried to remove the Restricted Mode and leave the SafetyMode Cookie content modification applied. This resulted in completely unfiltered YouTube access (despite also having safe search for general web searching on). I know Google have pushed people to the restricted mode (regardless of the LGfL settings and us over-riding it) but I'd have thought content management should still pick up on dodgy word searches with HTTPS decrypt and inspect. Am I doing something dopey? Or is it basically Google forcing schools down the GAFE route for controlling access to unrated (thus restricted) videos? That or literally unrestricted? Teachers won't like that much. -
OK, so an update on this... I completely uninstalled RSAT on my W10 workstation, then reinstalled v1.1 which "unofficially" has the DHCP console included. If I load DHCP from Administrative tools, or the MMC then the DHCP snap-in, then connect to rc-srv-dc1 I get access denied. However, if I go via Server Manager -> DHCP -> Right click the server -> DHCP Manager, it DOES work. It's still the same DHCP MMC snap-in, same versions etc. I guess when going via Server Manager, an extra piece of authentication is happening, without needing to explicitly add the server as a trusted host on the client (usually only necessary for a non domain joined device it seems). Oh well, that'll do!

Hi all, I'm flummoxed so hope someone can point me in the right direction. I've set up 2 new 2012R2 Core DCs, they're running quite nicely and working well. DHCP (load-balanced) is currently on a couple of legacy servers which I want to migrate to the 2 new DCs. The DHCP Server feature is installed and ready to config. I don't actually think this is related to the DHCP server anyway... If I try to connect to the Event Log or DHCP via the MMC from a W7 / W8 desktop with RSAT or 2012 / 2012r2 server elsewhere on the same domain as a Domain or Enterprise Administrator (but not 'administrator'), access is denied. If I log on to the workstation as 'administrator' then it works. Remote Management is configured. I CAN see the event log through Server Manager but not MMC. I've tried: Turning the firewall off completely Adding firewall exceptions (see the 2nd reply here) Disabling local UAC on the server (already off on the client) Setting my user account with full control in ADSS - Services Running WinRM -quickconfig on both the server and client (WinRM is definitely running) Enable-PSRemoting (all set to yes) The only thing which works is something which seemingly should only apply to non domain devices: cmdkey /add:RC-SRV-DC1 /user:Administrator /pass:xyz - there's plenty of documentation around remotely managing a non domain joined Hyper-V server in this way. This works, but I shouldn't have to do this from a domain joined device and I want to fix whatever is wrong. I have looked through the event logs on the server and client and can't see anything useful. I can see the authentication from my account being successful on the server's security logs. It's driving me nuts, please, anyone? Many thanks.

Hi, I've been asked to install Sketchup 2015 (as of course, we must have the latest version immediately!) Has anyone else looked at this yet? I'm hoping the MST transform is similar/same but I've not tried it yet. Thanks!

Hi Nick, I've tried to use this but it just keeps crashing at the point it connects to Exchange. I've created an impersonation account and also tried the main global admin account but with no success. We're using Office 365. I realise in the documentation it says it's untested, but this app looks like it's just what I'm after. We can't afford Salamander or in fact any paid solution to achieve this. I've cut down the XML report to 1 teacher for debugging purposes. I've also turned off room imports. I've also tried using our podxxxxx.outlook.com address, auto discover address and leaving the field blank as suggested. Any ideas? Many thanks. Lewis.

Hi all, Not sure if I'm being daft, but I can't seem to work this out. I'd like students & staff to have access to SkyDrive Pro so they have a personal document area, but also use the OWA functionality, particularly from iPads, etc. I have to have SharePoint 1 or 2 enabled for OWA to work. However, I'd like to disable the ability to share documents with others or use the "Shared With Everyone" folder as this would be highly dodgy for students! Any ideas?

Cisco Meraki MDM, profile install fail. SCEP error
lewisburgess replied to dany2010's topic in Cloud Services
I'm getting exactly the same problem today, and again, last week it was all fine. Nothing has changed. I've tried 2 different ISPs and even via 3G (which I proved working last week). I doubt very much that it's a firewall config - given that it was working with 3G and now it's not. Very annoying as I have 20 to set up for SLT and another team ASAP! -
Solus2 not showing any patch available - i.e. no 18525. Support.capitaes.co.uk is not loading at home or work either. Meh.
