Secondly you can use the name of the reg group tabs to make a vlookup formula dynamic by using the reg group cell in each row as a refference for a tab. Maybe in highs with complex statistical exams analysis. 4matrix sisra etc have a place. I dont see why reporting and simple analysis should have to require another product for primaries. Discover never fulfilled the promise of the early days either. Dynamic groups is a great feature but that should happen in SIMS not a second product. The analysis is fine if you want graphs but what about grid matrix and data tables without having to export and do lots additional work. Again I have an issue with the use of line graphs everywhere in discover, it annoys me as the graph isn't displaying a trend over time so why use a line graph? I know pie an bar are options too but other than attendance over time get rid of lines

Live actionable intelligence. That's what I want my MIS for. Is a pupils latest assessments at an expected standard, No? is it because of attendance or behaviour or another issue im aware of? Now record what ive done to provide evidence or support improvement. Everything else like maintaining records, Census, staff etc should support my drive for better pupils outcomes. They should be as efficient as easy as possible and not take 23 clicks. I would rather have an MIS I use 90% or 100% than 100 features and customizations i never touch. All of this is why my biggest gripe with SIMS Primary is the reporting feature. Standard reports are good for standard things. But when I want to drill down and gather intelligence none of capitas proposed solutions come close. yay API's for the technically gifted of us to interact. But I want this stuff in the hands of people working with pupils so they can make the biggest difference.

Good support units invested a lot of time talking to Capita 3/4 years ago about the requirements for the new version of SIMS. We spent a lot of time on reporting detailing what was needed. we had a focus group of schools, we had capita reps. None of it was used. Assessment, the same. We raised very real concerns 2 years ago at the annual conference saying the data warehouse model wouldnt work (think SIMS/Discover in the cloud with slow transfer times). it was ignored. CAPITA OR NOT LISTENING. They have a dog of a product which has been built badly. Thy cant currently roll out updates to all tenants of the LSU test sites without it failing, so how will updating live schols be any better? The architecture and approach has been wrong from the start. They are already carrying a lot of technical debt in a supposedly new system that will hold back development and will never get to an agile model.

erm..... no. While we try and fix everything ourselves in an LSU, at some point we just join the same queue as you and await a Capita response 4 months later. while your general fixes and known issues will be much quicker, once a patch etc is required its a waiting game for us too.

Nope, being done offshore from what i understand.

There's been huge issues with the design concept of the back end of the system. from things we've been hearing there's also issues with rolling out new features and fixes to all tenants within the Primary system. seen as this was meant to follow a SaaS model these fundamentals raise serious concerns. They've had to rewrite reporting, and only have predefined reports working. You still can't design your own at this point. Assessment has also been taken back to the drawing board too. Data migration has become an issue too, as live data from schools isnt squeaky clean and is taking a lot of work to migrate. A number of senior people within Capita SIMS have all gone in recent months, not sure if this is because of the failings of Primary or the CTF import issue. The other "online" secondary parts are being design to use SSM to gather data from current SIMS 7. I do not expect a fully cloud product that works and meets the needs of a basic primary school for at least 18 to 24 months (if that soon).

In the interest of pupils and their education I'd hope a supportive la in this hypothetical would provide the data (much of which has originated in the school) without hesitation. Queue an instruction to pupils to log an SAR for the data with the LA and populate your MIS from that.

contacting the LEA, they may have B2B taking SIMS data to Capiita's ONE System, you could get Attendance, SEN, FSM data as well as school history etc. They may also have contact info, however due to the recent CTF import issue they may have turned this off.

They're also replacing SIMS 7 soon....... only been hearing about that at meetings/conferences for a few years now! Considering how well MyAccount works I cant wait for them to do a whole MIS online!

you need to configure the option in the lesson monitor settings. Tools : setups : Lesson Monitor Options : lesson monitor setup In the panel you can define the timetable cycle periods that relate to the AM and PM sessions. You'll also need to tick the copy lesson mark to session option for PM.

No, that installable is only if you're starting from a blank DB as a new school. Migrate you files (docstorage, STF folders etc) and the physical DB files to the new server. Attach using SQL management studio or the DBattach tool provided by Capita. There are migration tools available from Capita, or a local support unit will probably do it for you if you ask.

think of all the problems with current OS's and working between different devices. It can all be fixed in a Fuchsia release........
