Yes if this is a windows box setup like this \\server1\users\username your share permissions should be authenticated users full control your NTFS permissions on the users folder should be System full, Local/Domain admins full and authenticated users read/list. Also remember to turn off inheritance/propagate permissions your NTFS permissions on the username folder should be System Full, Local/Domain admins full and username read/list/execute/write/modify Also if this is a windows box you can turn on Access Based Enumeration and this will hide any folders the users don't have access too.

Could you paste the output from adsiedit from a working account and an account that is misbehaving?? use the adsiedit on the mail server if you look at both users in the GAL do they both had the same details?? do they both have an email address listed?? Do you have any address book polices,address lists or email address polices?? i am also interested why you are also creating a mail contact as well.

Ok but i still wouldn't be worried with 500 concurrent connections. Email2 is doing what it it supposed to do i.e. putting as much of the database in ram, if you add more ram you will still see 99% usage as it will just put even more of the database in ram. OK moving the active database to email2 does make sense if email1 only has 16GB of ram also, the cas role can eat memory. If the thinking behind the dag was to have a real time backup of the database if one of the servers failed and you can deal with the downtime of the failed server then thats fine, but if the person who set it up was thinking it would provide High Availability they are wrong because you still need the other 2 roles for your email systems to still function. As for the mail flow problem You have said you cannot receive email from external but can you send internal to internal and internal to external?? As EduTech said can you telnet to your server from outside?? can you still access your OWA?? What changes were you making when the email stopped??

I wouldn't worry about the 16GB ram, i have run an exchange 2010 server with nearly 25,000 accounts with only 20GB of ram. Microsofts guidelines are mainly based on concurrent connections, are you going to have all 1400 users connected at the same time?? This setup also seems a little strange to me, what is the purpose of the DAG?? and why not just deliver the mail to email1 then replicate it to email2?? instead of passing the email around twice.

What are you hosting the user accounts on??

You dont want to give your users full control

If i were you i would just leave it alone if its working. The HP Trunk is a proprietary protocol and only works with links between HP switches that support it, it some cases it can out perform LACP. I will try and dig out the info i have on it, so you can see the pros and cons.

Why not look at the 8212zl then?? this has redundant management modules and fabric modules. it will also carry on switching traffic while the fabric/management modules are failing over if primary one should fail.

We run a x2 8212zl and a number of 5406/5412 all with premium licenses. multiple 10Gig links to the 5412's and 4x 1Gb links to the 5406's. All have been solid as a rock and would happily buy this kit again. Added bonus of this setup is that all modules are interchangeable across the 3 models of switch and all run the same firmware code and for the people comparing this kit to netgear, all i have to say is warranty.

I seem to remember having trouble registering our kit too, so i got our supplier to push it through. We now have a logon to the site so we can download firmware, manuals, etc

Dont replace any of those switches its a good stable setup, i ran that setup for years and i can pretty much guarantee you won't even be getting close to maxing out the 4108. You can get a 6x gig port module or a 20x gig port + 2x mini gbic module for the 4108, which you can get off ebay fairly cheaply. As others have said it does support LACP but from the command line. I wouldn't recommend using the web interface, its a horrible java interface which is very limited and can be very buggy depending on the firmware level. The cli (and don't mean the menu) is very powerful and will give you access to all the features on the switch.

You need to add your network drivers and sata ahci drivers to your MDT server and then update the deployment share and rebuild the boot image and then re-add this to your WDS server.

I would go to Dell direct they will give you a much better deal that no one can touch, you will also get much better hardware and support You could get a MD3220i or MD3620i with about 7TB of storage and 2 or 3 very good spec R610's What are you planning to virtualze?? as x12 6core processors is overkill. Spend the money on extra memory or a good switch that can be used for the iscsi traffic like HP 2910-24G or 3500yl-24G

I have had a similar problem with a realtek card in the past (can't remember the model) and i was using RIS and WDS. We found out if you hit the pause/break key when you see TFTP.... like in your screenshot and leave it 15 to 30 seconds then press any key it will drop in. I was convinced the issue was caused by spanning tree being miss configured but never got round to doing more testing

if you are using ospf on all the switches you wouldn't need a static route for this, the switches would work it out on its own

Are your student mac home folders on this file server?? We have a very simliar issue with our macs, it turned out to be Safari and HTML5. Its uses a mysql lite database to track the equivalent to cookies in HTML5. as soon as you open Safari we were getting thousands of read and writes a second per machine to this database which is stored in the users library folder, about 4 users was enough to bring our file sever up to 100% cpu usage. As soon as we disabled Safari and replaced it with Chrome the problem went away. This might not be the same issue but its worth a look or use something like wireshark to see if you can find out whats going on

If WDS works the same way RIS did, it doesn't use the network GUID /UUID it takes that from the motherboard. if you have a motherboard where the GUID / UUID are blank or are all the same as a quick fix you can create a computer account using the network cards MAC address and just add zeros in front of the MAC address to fill the extra characters

i know its off topic but i would be interested to know how you got it to image via WDS

i would always download the latest sysprep from microsoft and not use the one off the disc when you run sysprep you DONT use the factory option and reboot, you just tick mini setup and then click reseal i have never had the issue with WDS having duplication issues, i would imagine that its because you used the same image name when you save it to your local drive, i always put the date and computer model in the image name (14122011delld600), as it helps identify when it was made and keeps the name unique

hmm that should of worked. where did you get your windows install disc from?? volume licence?? or did you just use the version of windows that came with the machine?? when you sysprepped windows before you captured it, did you tick the box that said use mini setup?? the wdssyspreptemplate.inf should get copied to c:\sysprep and renamed to sysprep.inf and then it will be read by sysprep when it runs you are correct the sysprep folder will go from c: once sysprep is complete
