1. I had a problem with a virus which must have messed up some system file So I tried a Repair Reinstall with a XP disk that I thought was OK It was the wrong disk for the Computer - I want to get out of this repair so that I can try the right disk I put this one in and boot from it and choose repair, and it gets so far and keeps rebooting into the same procedure Any suggestions?
2. Thanks for comments Took off front panel - found that the video cable that comes from the screen was not pushed sufficiently into the socket on the main body of laptop All Done !!
3. Here is the picture of the screen
4. Vista Laptop has wavy coloured lines External monitor is OK I did a PrntScr and saved a document, but no wavy lines are on that.... What does this mean ? Thanks
5. It is Intel Raid Can I revert back to non raid without destroying any data I have made an image of (what I think is) disk 1 Can't seem to do it with disk 2 as it says it needs to format it when plugged in via usb on another computer (used linux to read directories on it though) Pressing Cntrl + I brings up the RAID window - not sure what to do next
6. Hi It is a Dell Dimension 9100 - pretty solid piece of kit back then Looks like it is all onboard ?
7. OK Thanks for reply - don't think that is applicable, as I can't boot into windows Actually in safe mode, it sticks on a sys file from Avast, then blue screens
8. Dell with 2 120Gb drives in running XP I don't know much about RAID but I think it is the Mirror type Wouldn't boot after 15 Updates apparently. Tried to do a Repair Reinstall, but seem to have a Dell Disc with XP Prof on it and not Home which the sticker says on the computer. Therefore it wouldn't do the repair. Used a Linux disk to copy over a Restore Point from back in time to the Config folder in System32 - had trouble writing to one disk using this facility Tried chkdsk /r using another XP setup disk and found no trouble - but which disk is this checking?????? I guess the mirror facility copies the main disk - how do I utilize the RAID facility to mend this darn thing assuming 1 disk might be OK ??? Wont let me attach Screenshots
9. Laptop with Wins 7 crashed with bad sectors Managed to copy off the storage location AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail Now do I copy this folder to the new machine BEFORE I install Windows Live or AFTER on the new computer Will WL pick up all the folders under the new account Do I set up the email account first before copying ???? 12. Didn't consider it, but have done a few improvements recently - new MS antivirus - uninstalled some progs - cleanup of temp files etc, so didn't want to necessarily undo good stuff I have done

Thanks
14. Have ended Explorer.exe in Task Manager, so that it restarts automatically, but that isn't happening
15. Left clicking the Start Menu doesn't do anything. It works the first time you try it, then nothing. Pressing Windows Key, the same Explorer.exe running at 50% Other users on the computer have no trouble Done sfc scan - found error which promised to fix on restart Normal left clicking elsewhere is OK Have run Malwarebytes Any help appreciated
16. Bought a new battery for Toshiba L500-19X Now when battery (and Charger) is connected - it cuts out soon after starting Take out battery and no cutouts Would this be a problem with the battery of something inside the laptop Thanks Edit/Delete Message

18. I have this laptop with 3 Partitions The main partition got corrupted and apparently wiped so all windows folders have been deleted and a low level format carried out I still have the recovery sector Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options" I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ? Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ? Thanks

22. Thanks for the reply Yes I have used this No Change Wondering if it is a graphics problem Nvidia......
23. No Joy in Safe Mode - same screen Tried chkdsk /r on many occasions with a Vista Boot CD Also sfc /scannow offbootdir yada yada - this said corrupt files, fixed them and put results put in CBS file - reboot the same blank screen Files can be seen via Linux Live disc, so there doesn't seem to be a read problem There is something I am not doing..
24. Yep, got a licence key on the bottom I tried a Repair Reinstall with an XP Pro disk that I found - not sure where it came from - must have been a copy When I got to the Key - it rejected the one that was on the bottom of the laptop So I am still stuck !
25. Thats great - however, it would help if I had a new copy of XP ! Don't fancy shelling out £100 for another one......
