Rather proves my point really you've found a product that only takes 30 minutes to train a user in it's use. Any product that is that intuitive has to be worth considering. The only concern is the offsite storage of data . Our uniservity install is located on our local wan so data is a lot more secure. Something to be considered before porting to Google or any on-line presence ,

It's called training. You cant expect anyone to just get on with it with any product there has to be a level of training to allow the user to achieve his aims and no one can expect anyone to be able to program in PHP or use mysql to use Moodle. It's an easy free product to use when shown how. NO PROGRAMMING NECCESSARY There's a large community of supporters and helpers, modules and plugins being written all the time and available free so your not out on your own all the help and advice you need is readily available from the community free. If you had to buy or have Moodle written it would cost tens of thousands give it a ago it wont cost you a penny

Hi we use this PsShutdown from sysinternals our pc's are XP so i dont know if it works on win 7 might be worth a try executes from the server and sends a shutdown command to workstations in your txt file list. Export your computers from AD and past to your txt file

Wise move what a load of rubbish it is. We have it also and I told our EA from day one to go with Moodle as it's free and is designed for schools but of course someone in a suit new better , never mind what goes around.... There now looking at using Moodle. Don't know whether to laugh or cry

I also spoke to them this morning and after discussion they advise they support clickview server on a virtual server but not THE CLIENT on a virtual desktop. So when I originally called I was testing clickview on VMWare workstation 7 on a virtual windows 2003 server and virtual XP desktop hence I could not get the client to connect. As we have physical desktops it shouldent be a problem. They also advised that the a TV card can be hosted on a physical desktop and the recorded file then uploaded to the clickview server so it looks like we will virtulise our clickview server after all. We have to ESXi boxes one's a failover for the other and there both running on HP hardware with SAN to host the vmdk files and data. All computers are standard Dell Optiplex 380

Plexer I suspect thier trying to ties us in to thier services and make us wholly dependent on them as running an ESXi environment with Veam is not as straight forward as using physical servers. They have been pushing us towards virtual servers for some time now. I'm old school and prefer to use physical hardware for such a small amount of servers ( We have 5). Our education IT dept is full of ex teachers and salesman who know nothing about networks and are sold anything and everything very easily. There's nothing wrong with virtualisation in the right environment but this appears to be an attempt to tie us into the current contractor in the long term. Over the summer holidays our servers were virtulised and we were expected to return and get on with it no training in ESXi or Veeam. Rather ironic really an education dept that dosent offer training to its IT staff. Kili

Hi Guys has anyone got any experience of virtulising clickview. I've run tests on physical hardware and it works fine but using it on a virtual network running on vmware workstation the client fails to connect. I've spoken to clickview support and they don't appear to support the product in the virtual environment as they couldn't get it working either I'm being pressured to place clickview on our ESXi box and SAN setup by our WAN external contractors. I'd also be interested to know how you virtualise a physical TV card I've tried explaining that the card cant be virtulised as far a I know but they still want me to host clickview virtually . Anyone got this working in a virtual environment? Thanks for your help Kili

Very strange. I have seen it where the user has full access to the folder but not the files within it or sub folders, check the permissions have cascaded down to the files by looking at a single file.

It's a file permission issue. Give the user full control of the folders in question so that his account can create the files or folders the program is trying to create. Kili

I send the vlc exe to the workstation to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP\vlc-1.1.9-win32.exe then simply execute a batch file with the command L=1033 being the language ( English) and /S being a silent install

As I see it your only solution given that you want to use a client based option such as outlook is that each time you reply to an email you would add the email account your using to send as a recipient under the BCC field this would then send a copy back to you and the other user of the same email account . Remember to tick the option under outlook to leave a copy on the server for x number of days so that your collegue can pull a copy of the sent item. Could be confusing but it's the only way I can see if you don't want to login to a web based solution Kili

You've missed the point the delivery charge would be the price you want to achieve for the purchase of the computer plus the delivery charge built in i.e DELL Optiplex 260 free - delivery £40. The price point would be such that it wouldn't be practical for anyone to buy to sell on but for an individual it might be worth it. Just a thought ...

Give them away free on ebay and just charge for delivery. I don't know if vat applies to a delivery charge does it?

Local profiles for students, roaming profiles for staff. In our school students access email via a browser so don't need to store preferences such as Outlook where as staff do. Doing it this way also decreases login issues to the server for students as there not pulling down profiles. 400 students pulling roaming profiles can cause a slow down whilst there all logging on. enforced/redirected desktop for staff and students. This is especially relevant to staff using roaming profiles so that thay cant store huge files on the desk top as again this causes slow down at login when they try to pull down their desktop profile with 20 gb of files saved there lol...

If it works don't fix it lol..

You don't say what server version your on but on windows server 2003 you might find it easier to set up path rules for bat and cmd blocking to prevent them from being run. Find this under rather than blocking them via the admin templates-system

We normally delete all data assigned or created by the person that has left unless it's data that is needed by other users that being the case check with SLT before granting access as there may be data protection issues

Go to the local supermarket before you go into these attractions and buy as much food and drink as you need and hide it in your rucksacks . Food once in these attractions can be very expensive especially if there's a lot of you in your party. When I took the wife and kids 23 years ago I was buying 24 cokes for a $1 ( by the case from the supermarket) It was a $1 a coke once inside. Another thing we did at the all you can eat breakfast hotel on International drive we would help ourselves to as much fruit and rolls as we could and take them with us to eat later before we set out for the attractions, when you have 3 kids it saves a lot of cash. Have fun it's a great trip and don't mess with anyone out there they carry guns. Oh and watch out for the State Troopers on the highways they were everywhere when I went.
