Cheers, I was hoping it wouldn't come to that but it may be the only way. I also tried a recovery using a disc and it would just error with some complaint about making sure you've unplugged any USB devices and try again.

Getting an annoying Windows 7 Black SOD when trying to log in under a particular profile. Usual story: log in, screen fades to black and only mouse cursor remains. I've run a system restore, run a Chkdsk and repair on the drive, run extensive tests on memory (memtest) and uninstalled any potential problem software, all with no positive outcome. Event logs seem pretty uneventful, and this only happens with one login. Oh yes, I've also run a full scan with MBAM with no malware found. Other things I've noticed: Every time anyone logs in you get a notification about needing to set a page file size, and it shows you the current setup is 0MB. This happens even if you subsequently set a page file size and then log in again. Any thoughts? Also, we noticed the local admin account was disabled (this was after it was returned to us with an unrelated problem) and a new local admin account had been set up in the name of the laptop owner. She has very limited technical knowledge so can't see how she would do this, and no one apart from us knows admin level login details anyway. Any thoughts would be very helpful.

That's useful, thanks. I did consider doing it on my own as I couldn't think of a suitable teacher really. We have a great teacher of ICT here but he's leaving soon, and as for other teachers here that may be a tough one. I shall have to think long and hard about who might be suitable. Yeah, I messed around with Processing a while back and could see how it would be excellent for teaching, especially as you say with it's immediate feedback. Our school is also pretty arts and media focused, so it would tie in well with that too. I've heard of PicAxe so I'll have a look into that. Perhaps it's something I can get the D&T department involved with too.

I was wondering (just out of interest really) whether any of you hold coding clubs inside your school for kids to learn non-curriculum coding skills in a more relaxed environment. I thought it would be good to try and start up something at my school, perhaps as part of personal/professional development so I can take the time off usual work duties. I thought it would be great to focus on open source languages such as Arduino and Processing; languages that have a real creative element as well as an important introduction to the fundamentals of programming. The *hilarious* thing is the building that houses this room, despite only being built 5 or 6 years ago, doesn't have a speck of wireless coverage I thought that it might cover us if we stuck a Ubiquiti Unifi point up in the room or something? At least that would supply coverage for that classroom, even if it means they can't leave the confines of that room (which would be great too).

Sorry, I was being a bit facetious in my last comment; lack of sleep methinks. We've got about 20k to spend, and it isn't a huge classroom. I love the idea of multiple displays but it's a difficult one to communicate to not so tech-savvy teachers. What I need is pictures. They do love visual aids.

I say buy one of those small cafetieres and some decent ground coffee (Percol is a good one) and as long as you've got access to hot water you've got great, non-instant yet very quick nonetheless coffee.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but on a similar note what do you do if one of you colleagues has a hygiene level that leaves much to be desired? We also work in close confines, and as you say it makes things smelly at the best of times, and adding the smelly colleague in to the mix leaves any unfortunate visitors with a slight greeny hue.

Hi, Does anyone have any good resources or case studies on new technology in the classroom? One of our faculties has won some money and have decided to spend it on a new technology suite for things like collaborative research and classroom discussion through technology. It's great that they don't just want to sling in a load of sterile desktops that'll be out of date in a few years time and want to do something that's a bit more exciting, but I'm a bit stuck for resources to present to them in our next meeting. It seems I only have experience of putting together bog standard computer labs. There's not a huge amount of money but I think we're mainly interested in wireless and open source as well. Has anyone experimented with anything worth shouting about in their schools that's gone beyond the norm and has been really successful with both students and teachers? The room isn't going to be a strict computer lab - in fact it's going to be used for student research and the emphasis is on engaging students rather than just sitting them all in front of a computer to work in silence. Done this, and the only error it seems to have is a 'File does not exist' error relating to a javascript news ticker embedded somewhere in our CMS (Joomla). I'm going to try @hit's suggestion and report back
