Basically I'm just being an idiot trying to add a string to a DWORD value.

Well REG_SZ worked perfectly. Trying to add it as a REG_DWORD failed miserably with the 'Invalid command line parameter' error. Very strange

OK, I really should have been more specific, so sorry about that. I'm trrying to add a value to HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\Setup in the form of ImportPRF to specify a prf server path for setting up Outlook profiles automatically. I assumed it should be a REG_DWORD

Hi, Simple thing. I'm trying to run the following command to add a new registry key: REG ADD HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Location /v ValueName /t REG_DWORD /d "\\server\serverpath" /f So I'm basically trying to add a REG_DWORD value with the data string of a server path. Anyway, everytime I get the error: "Too many command line parameters" but as far as I can see it conforms completely with the command format. Can anyone see where I might be going wrong, because I can't? Thanks

Ubuntu Desktop edition, and I really can't figure out about the IP, but as I've had some lunch now and I enjoy torturing myself I'm going to completely re-install server then Fog.

OK, officially given up with Fog! Tried to re-upload an image and now getting 'unable to move images..' error when it prepares for imaging. Fog is the most frustrating piece of software I've ever tried to use, and I'm not that much of an idiot. With fog it's: I fix one error, on to the next error, fix next error, on to the next.....infinity

Patience with Fog is now nearing zero I did a quick inventory on a client a few days ago, and thinking everything was hunky dory I deployed the new image to said client just now. I am now getting the invalid operating system id error, but whenever I change it under the hosts section it doesn't stick. Now I've tried deleting the host so I can do a fresh inventory, but the machine just keeps booting into the image, bypassing the main menu. I've deleted the host and killed the deploy task, so what's going on?

Thanks for this. I found that I think the problem was a disparity in the pxelinux.cfg file, which was still pointing to the wrong IP address. Changed it and it seems to work OK. So now I'm uploading my first image onto FOG, whoop whoop!

OK, update. After looking closely at the error on the client, I can see it's still pointing to the wrong IP address, so no wonder it ain't mounting. I have corrected all the IPs in config.php and in the management console (they are appearing correctly on the dashboard) but the flippin thing is still trying to point to the wrong address. Is there somewhere I've missed? Do I need to do an inventory of the host machine again? Thanks

It never worked properly in the first place. One thing that was odd was it's running off a virtual machine but FOG was coming up with the wrong IP, so I changed it to the correct IP in the config file and all seemed hunky dory. I've also tried re-installing fog so I know for sure that I didn't change any of the defaults apart from the bare essentials.

Apologies if this is a regular FOG issue, but I've just sweated what felt like actual blood getting FOG up and running, and now when I try to image I get the dreaded 'Can't mount NFS' error. My first question is where is the default location for this 'images' folder located, and is this reflected correctly within the default storage node settings (e.g /images/)? I expected the images folder to be in /var/www/fog/ but it isn't which is rather confusing. If it is somewhere else should it be in the www folder? I haven't touched any storage settings, only the very basics. NOTE: I have looked at this link: Change NFS location - FOGProject Wiki which seems to be what Google chucks up on a search for this subject, but I wasn't sure if I really needed to change the NFS location like this. Can't FOG just automatically put it in the correct folder for us thickos? Now must listen to some Boards of Canada to calm down. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I have just re-imaged a whole set of machines with a new XP build, and most of them are fine. However on a few we seem to be getting these AUCUN.DLL errors occurring, which constantly as you to restart the machine. It seems to be something to do with the Ctrl+Alt+Del login screen and the initial load dialogue before the machine reaches the login screen as when the affected machines load, all we get is a blue background and none of the 'Applying computer settings' or 'start-up script' dialogue. After Googling this error I seem to get nothing apart from something that relates to a Windows 2000 error, which this is not. Has anyone else ever come accross this DLL file error, or can anyone offer any insight into why this may be happening? The affected machines are all XP Pro SP3 on a Server 2008 R2 domain. They are also all Optiplex 3 series, but I think this is just a coincidence as we've never had problems before. Thanks

Hi, So I'm learning new things about the shocking state of my inherited network every day, and today I finally get around to updates and realise they're handled on a registry level. I would like them to be handled via a script which picks up authorised updates from WSUS on a set day of the week, so I can properly control updates. I think the previous guys who created our existing images, literally just set the registry values for each single image and GHOSTed it over the network. What would be the best way to switch off the registry handling of updates, so I can use a script instead? OR could I just disable it in GP and leave the registry as is? I hope this makes sense. Hello ladies and gentleman. We're looking to do a pre-Windows 7 audit to basically devise a long list of RAM requirements before we can start deploying. I don't just want to know how much RAM though, I would also like to know available DIMM slots. I'm trialling this awesome powershell script called Network Live Audit by a chap called Bigteddy and it runs from a central location and scans the network, running the script on each machine. It's really cool (and free) but it's only downfall is that if hundreds of machines are switched off, it can't do anything about them. If only WOL was built in too, so if it detected a computer was off it could WOL it and wait for it to respond - but I digress. If we could devise some sort of logon script that runs on each machine which queries things like RAM information and then dumps the results in a central text file, I think this would be much better in the long run. I was just wondering what other people did or would do in this situation. I'm not looking for a thorough, hardware audit of each machine to be displayed in a pretty interactive GUI or anything like that. Something that exports into an Excel document would be brilliant.

That's very interesting actually, because I log on to Windows as domain admin but log on as an affected user in SIMS and it seems a lot faster.

Hi, Does anyone have any idea why roaming profiles might be affecting SIMS performance? Some of our staff (all power users) have been noticing over the last few months (after the Spring update) that some SIMS jobs, such as adding behaviour incidents to student records are taking a ridiculous amount of time. In some instances up to a minute. We know it isn't a server issue as we've replicated this logged on to the server and the performance lag disappears. It's also very inconsistent, with users noticing different rates of speed decrease. What we have noticed is that when we run the same user on a local profile the speed issues generally disappear. We've had to switch roaming profiles off on a lot of users just so they can get their work done, but as I'm sure you can imagine this isn't a fix. It has been reported as a potential bug but Capita gave us a load of hoops to jump through before they'd take it seriously. We've ticked most of the boxes, the only problem being compared to Capita minimum specs, our server is quite underrated, despite the fact that we're certain it's very capable of hosting SIMS. As per usual there are no SIMS errors that I can find. Any advice would be appreciated muchly
