Has anyone done this before? Dfsradmin Membership Set /RGName: /RFName: /MemName: /IsPrimary:True I need to change the replication master to a new fileserver as the current master is being retired. I've had robocopy mirroring the entire fileserver onto a USB HDD with NTFS permissions just in case this cocks something up I have a full and security complete backup. Everything I've read seems to say "Run this and it'll work with no problems". As always with this sort of thing I'd take more confidence doing it if I had a couple of real life good luck stories! We don't have phase leaders or Heads of Year. Different school setup. We are all-age. All the DHT and AHT are DSLs - the Head is not. The two "lead" DSLs are the Primary and Secondary DHTs. Those are the two people who deal with online safeguarding and PCE. They deal with it all themselves, however we've never had anything that has ever required action! I'm finding it really hard to convince them that instead of treating everything with suspicion and trying to foist work onto me they should be rejoicing! There is never anything reported apart from false positives. At most secondaries they deal with several instances per day!

What I find the worst is that I am compromised by PCE. I saw an email sent by the Head to our finance officer that triggered a key word capture. I happened to looking at the live view to test an iPad setting out and saw it. By the time I went back to it so I could cover my backside it had gone. I assume the monitoring team had seen it, realised it was sensitive and either archived it, deleted it or hidden it behind a load of permissions that I don't have. I have pointed this out before. The DSLs don't really care. They don't the "the time" for some of them or it's far "too complex" for others to manage. So they want me do more it. I've managed to get a kind of compromise that now the run in period has ended surely I can perform any house keeping tasks of deleting renamed machines, archiving leavers etc once a month in a meeting with a DSL. They are thinking about it! They didn't like that my new SBM wants proper paper logs of all this. So if I'm asked to pull an email out by a DSL (even in writing) they have to full in a form and sign it to authorise it. That'll stop 'em doing that. I even have to create email folders and rules for the SLT as they (rather forcefully) say it's an admin/technician job to do. The new SBM at our first meeting on this subject reminded me of the whistleblowing policy and that if I saw anything I have to report it!

Where do Link2ICT say this? I can't find it, and my DSLs are certain that Link2ICT say the opposite!

Hello, I'm sure I've asked this before, but I'd like to do so again just in case anything has changed in the wild world of EduIT. We have a program called Policy Central on all our PCs/laptops and the browser version for iPad use. We pay our LEA a nice sum of money for a monitoring service, whereby they automatically check every capture and grade them according to severity. They then report on anything "semi-bad" in a weekly report to the DSLs, of which we've never had anything, and will directly call the school if there is ever a "big bad". Some of my DSLs want me to go on the training so I can manually take over monitoring of this service for them. They talk about a "Technician DSL", which I think is a ridiculous idea. I'm an operational person, I have no strategic oversight. With the monitoring service I cannot really see *why* they need me to do this. We pay for the LEA to do this. All they need to do is read the reports! I have a feeling a lot of this is about buck passing and the old "I'm too important to spare any time for this!". They like the idea of dumping it on me as I'm computer literate and understand the backend, but I'm also quite intelligent and don't panic whenever I get a report from Policy Central even when it "Contains no data". How do other schools deal with this sort of thing? As far as myself and my SBM can tell we don't need to do anything apart from tidy the user groups up so the reporting is more focused?! Thanks,

Just to clarify: It's my home number! I know you can move the commercial numbers. We managed to get our main switchboard number at my previous school away from Virgin and Birmingham City Council. They didn't like it, but they did it.

Simple question, and I assume the simple answer is "No"! We've had this number for well over a decade, and we'd like to keep it but assign it to some commercial VoIP service so I can stop throwing £19pcm to Virgin for a landline we never use!

What would you recommend as the best VPN out there today? I previously used AirVPN as their pricing was good, they kept no logs and you could use the OpenVPN stack rather than some kitbashed DotNet application to connect.

Hello, Can anyone recommend the best quality S-Video and 3x RCA cables they've found to use on Amazon? Needs to have S-Video Male/Male and composite video and L+R audio Male/Male or separate cables that I can tie together. I know there is never a massive amount of difference between "premium" and not cables, but with composite any help is needed! Cheers

Hi Folks, Anyone have recommendations for rugged memory sticks? Basically to keep on your keys, the big problem I've had is the "loop" which you push a ring through to clip onto your keys tends to break quite easily. I've been using cable ties as I have problems getting the metal hoops into some of the tiny holes on some USB sticks that are supposed to be used, but the plastic rubbing on plastic tends to effectively saw through one side or the other quickly. I used to have the Corsair Voyager's back in the day (back in the 1GB day!) and they survived a lot of punishment. Has anyone had any experience doing this? I've got my MegaDrive and Acorn A3010 outputting via their TV RF tuners onto Channel 36 on my TV. Works great - especially for the Acorn A3010 as it allow's some older games to be played on a 32" TV. I found an old Hauppauge WinTV 88x PCI analogue capture card last week in a pile of junk I pulled from my father-in-law's old PC (AMD Sempron vintage!). I've installed into my PC and Windows 10 has recognised it and installed all the correct x64 drivers. I was stunned. Does anyone have any experience on configuring this sort of thing? Googling is throwing up zip as everyone else made the leap to USB S-Video/HDMI capture cards a decade ago. Just a little side project that's taken on a bit of a life of it's own!

Can you effectively have a BNC crossover cable without the hub in the middle? This tech is just a bit too old for me. I remember hunting for a bad connection on my schools 10base-2 network of Acorn's circa 1994 with the IT Technician (and they were actual technicians. If a mouse was dead, get the soldering iron out!) when I was 11.

Hello, Big ask I know they are rare and probably command ridiculous prices on lolbay, but does anyone have a 10base2 to 10base t converter lying in a box somewhere which they've kept for a rainy day, but not longer need? I've picked up a cheap NIC for an ARM250 Acorn, but it's 10base-2 only. Cheers

So you have to strip it to get to the battery compartment. I assume these batteries would also be used to ignite the fire? Seems a bit overkill on capacity and cell size just for the remote control sensor. Has anyone converted this sort of gas fire to a smart one? Can you replace the remote with SoC device, or add one on?
