  1. Core 2 Duo E4300 1GB RAM 80GB HDD DVD/CDRW 17" AIO TFT XP Pro 3 Year NBD Warranty Office Pro 2007 Select Licence Good quote Id get it without the DVD/CDRW however. they tend to result in alot of broken rulers
  2. @openhgs Dear god, static IP's!? What an administration that would be. what would happen if your default gateway IP address changed, or you needed to change the IP of your dns server, or add another one in? :\ Have you not concidered using DHCP?
  3. Whats the problem with WIFI??? ive always been told that "results were inconlusive" or "half studies showed effects and half didnt?" Whats your own opinions?
  4. I would have questioned if default gateway was configured correctly, as it wouldnt be needed to access the LAN. But glad you got it working
  5. who controlls your personal router, at your site? and is the internet pushed down to there (as in does that router have a public IP) or does that connect to another LAN, before getting to the internet? If its your sites router i dont see why you should have to pay for a pinhole port forward, if its part of a big lan... your stuffed....
  6. If you dont want to install linux you can use virtual pc 2007, as its free.. VMWear workstation for windows is not free however... you can run VMWear server, but only on a windows server 2000/3 setup. VPC2007 is slower then VMwear but it works .... i have my lovely debian machine running in it at the mo infact. .
  7. Several hundered pounds!!! !?!?!?!!!?? its fill in the boxes and press save on most of them! External port.... Internal IP .... Internal port.... ITS THREE BOX'S!!! admittedly one of the box's includes more then one number, sepreated by fullstops. but seriously! your LEA must be rich!
  8. Id go down the VPN route too, as its encrypted and compressed. Tell them that you have to do this, they can forwardward remote desktop for you, or they can forward port 1723 and enable GRE so you can set up PPTP. You will need to forward SOMETHING through the router, otherwise as its NAT, the connection will have to be instigated from behind the router (i.e. at the primarys side) otherwise you wont be able to get it (thats one of the points of it!) the port forward is your best bet.
  9. Was the drive part of a RAID configuration? or was it a single drive on its own?? Im pretty sure knoppix supports SCSI so you could boot from CD with that,.. and copy the data from the scsi drive to your newly found "xp" drive.
  10. urm, Do P4's come in a slot-type socket??? i always thought they were ZIF?? :\ pretty sure you can only get them with HS/FAN's on the top...
  11. Urm, Long memory test?? fastboot turned off?? SCSI controller looking for drives that arnt there??? SCSI controller looking for drives which arnt properly terminated... IDE controller trying to pick up drives when two drives on same ribbon are both set to master or slave or CS. ??? could be one of the above.... Im guessing you use IDE disk's?
  12. Well you could run the machine with the HEATSINK, but no fan, leave the case side off and use a desktop fan.. weve been known to do it when one of our server fans have went.. (usual call service support and wait 2 days for them to bring a new one) To be fair all the fans are near enough the same... a P4 uses a ZIF socket, so it should be sat on the motherboard with a chunk of metal on top. Get a fan out of another machine, and it just screws into the heatsink... Otherwise buy one from dabs.com or something, they are muchly cheap .
  13. Does anyone use 1gbps connections to the clients yet? or just key locations.. e.g. servers, your own office etc?
  14. I dont like the letters IIS.... they scream "security problem" to me. I remember when I worked for one company and a webserver got killed by code red. :\ and they had the latest updates at the time.
  15. I dont like my windows severs as they need restarting every now and then for updates or just because they become weird after a while... 150 days seems like a max to me. where as my linux plod on forever... Other then that they are reliable.. @ johnkay21 I would download an iso for knoppix... burn it to a disk... and use it to copy all your data to a windows/smb share. or another disk drive.. Then just rebuild windows. as the repair sometimes throws all sorts of problems up, presides it doesnt sound like it would take too long to reset up as you only have moodle on it . or at least alot less time then DNS/ AD etc.
  16. He IS Bill Gates... Can you not see the whole Tux thing is a huge cover up?? eesh
  17. Is there one? will there be one??? The forum itself does have quite a quick turn around so im guessing theres no need for one? Just wondering if im missing out on another server i could add to my IRC panel
  18. hehe so we could hand them £500,000 and then after 3 years they could go bust... and then we would have nothing?? great
  19. hehe so we could hand them £500,000 and then after 3 years they could go bust... and then we would have nothing?? great
  20. Will toner and paper be included. because i get 10k a year really but we use 5 on toner and paper?? so do we get toner and paper?? or is it another £25k on top of the half a mil?
  21. If only i had a budget of half a million pound for 5 years.... think of the things i could do... lets see what i get at the moment... *thinks* so thats £5,000 .. times by 5... 25,000? yeah I can see a big difference there...
  22. Make an agreement with another school perhaps, to place NAS in there school, and they put one in yours... depends how your ISP works.. if you have unlimited bandwith, i mean you might be able to make a deal with them, as if you put your NAS at your ISP's office it dosent take up there gateway traffic, just the link between your school and them... on there side, it makes your school less likely to move providers... however you might have to pay for the service... :\ but it would be cheaper then getting some company to do it or housing a server in a server farm... You'd need at least 10MBPS uplink, at a VERY minimum...
  23. No, don't use apple I second that... *small voice from around the corner* *i third that* - the technician
  24. This website ( ) has been blocked because of policy damn durhamnet,, i'll never be able to watch those videos now!!! *crys* urm.. wheres that proxy anonymous server address again...
  25. We use sucessmaker here... as much as its stupidly expensive and quite simple... it actually works...! Might be worth looking into, although it belongs to one of the most evil companys to ever grace the earth* * = rm
